"How do you know this will work?" asked Ina as she ground a mixture of five different herbs.
"This is one of those few times I don't actually know something." Kier scribbled in a notebook. The sound of his nib scratching the paper was oddly complementary to that of Ina's mortar. "But your Magic is based on components. It should affect it."
"Can you really talk with those things, though?" asked Peppermint.
"Talk? Sure. Our languages are derived from theirs. But can we reason with them?" Kier looked at the white fox, gazing into its light blue eyes. "The stories I read as a child seem to indicate there might just be an amazingly narrow and unlikely chance of it."
