Chapter 17 - 17. The Strange Proposal 16

Afterward, he got back into the vehicle, and they drove off.

“We are heading to World Class Hotel,” Carson informed the driver.

“I got it, young master,” the driver acknowledged, and took off. Soon, they spotted a Hilux Van, that tumbled several times, and was upside-down. However, the occupants were battling for their lives, and prayed silently for help.

“Stop,” Carson ordered, and the driver slowed down. Allen, who was in the front seat, looked back, and inquired, “Is there any challenge?”

“Yes. I saw a somersaulted car. I believe they need help.”

Now, Alfred, was drowsy, but he woke up instantly, and asked, “Could they be coming from the event?”

“I thought as much,” Carson answered. At that moment, the driver had halted, and began to move backward. The other drivers stopped too, and in a jiffy, the five security guards jumped out of their pickup, and waited for instructions from Allen. Now, the drivers turned on their emergency flashers to alert other road users that there was an accident. Meanwhile, Allen, Carson, and Alfred were out of their car too.

“Come with me. They need help,” Allen ordered, and the guards complied. They got to the accident scene, and saw blood stains.

“Oh my God,” Alfred exclaimed.

“Open the doors,” Allen instructed while Carson looked on confused. Instantly, the guards attempted to open the doors, but they could not open due to the damaged locks, but they mounted pressure on them, and one of the doors opened.

“Bring them out,” Allen instructed. Carefully, the three occupants were transferred to the pickup van. Then, Carson was moved by their levels of injury, and requested, “Mr. Allen, kindly inform the police. They will know what to do with their vehicle.”

“You are right, young master.”

Now, Carson, took a step, and Alfred followed. “Let's go,” he instructed, and some guards got into the pickup van, while some joined the second car.

“Where are we going, young master?” The driver asked.

“To the Industrial Complex. I will ask the doctor to wait for us,” Carson said. Now, they heard a police siren, and Allen requested, “Let us wait, and inform the police of our intention to take them to our clinic.”

“It is all right.”

Meanwhile, it was not Alfred's intention to stay so long without contacting Mirabel. So, he decided to send a message to her, and give her a call later.

In the King's Chamber

Mirabel sat beside the Prince, and declared, “My father, you sent for me.”

The King fixed his gaze on her, as though he was searching for what to tell her from her expression. After the awkward silence, the King spoke, “Yes. I sent for you. How are you?”

“I'm fine, my father.”

To get the desired answer from her, the King asked a leading question, “Mirabel, you chose to keep your relationship away from your family because we don't deserve to know, am I right?”

'See what Alfred had caused,' she said to herself, and tears flowed freely down her cheek. Then, she defended, “Not in the least, my father. We were only acting.” Presently, she was crying, and she walked to her grandmother for succor.

“Grandma, kindly make my father to understand that I am not in a relationship,” she pleaded, and cried on the shoulder of the wrong person. She was not aware that the King was the only person on her side. Meanwhile, the powerful King Raphael Churchill VII was infested by her cry, and fought back the tears that were about to form in his eyes.

Nevertheless, Grandma Phoebe startled Mirabel with her consolation, “Stop crying, my dear. You did not commit any crime. You are only in a relationship, and got engaged to a handsome young man today.”

At that point, the King glared at the Queen, and Mirabel stopped crying abruptly. She searched the Queen's face, and corrected, “But I am not in a relationship, grandma. We were merely acting. We chose that forum to redeem our images from her date and my clients.”

“Was the young man aware that you were merely acting,” The Prince requested.

“Yes, my Prince. We rehearsed before we got to the stage.”

To lessen her burden, the King intervened, “I believe you, my daughter. I know that you are not in a relationship, and if you are, you would let me know.”

“Thank you, my father, for believing…”

“I wish you were not acting, Mirabel. The young man is in love with you,” the Queen interrupted, and Mirabel was lost. To confuse her the more, the Prince added, “I think you were the only person acting because that young man does not seem to be acting. As for me, I have a brother-in-law already.”

“My Prince!” She exclaimed in astonishment.

“Stop. Everyone, stop. She was only acting,” the King vetoed, and everyone kept mute. Then, she walked away from her grandmother, who had betrayed her, and returned to her seat. Now, there was silence, and they waited for the King to speak, and he faced Mirabel and continued, “No one can coerce you into any relationship that is against your wish. Did you get it?”

“I do, my father. Thank you, for believing in me,” she said cheerfully. Nevertheless, the Prince was a young man, and could recognize a genuine love when he saw it. Then, to clear the air, he faced Mirabel, and asked, “If I may ask, little sister, apart from acting, what do you think about him? Do you love him?”

There are things that can never be hidden. Instantly, her face became redder, and everyone could see the romantic stimulation. To conceal her feelings, she looked down, and the Prince and Queen smirked in triumph. After waiting for a while for her to speak, and she did not, the Prince stood up, and announced, “I beg to take my leave, my father and mother…?”

Beep

Instantly, she got Alfred's message, and the Prince, who could see her phone, peeped and saw the sender. He smiled broadly, and teased, “My king, prepare to meet your son-in-law very soon. Good night, everyone.”

“Good night, dear,” his parents responded simultaneously. He took his leave happily at once, leaving his father astounded, while her mother focused expectantly on Mirabel.

At the Industrial Complex

Alfred was relieved after he sent the message to Mirabel, and resolved to be with Carson for as long as he wished. To be free, he pulled off his suit jacket, and hung it on the car hanger. Then, they waited at the reception for the report of the doctors who were with the victims in the Intensive Care Unit. Although, they were exhausted, but they had to take responsibility because they believed that the victims were fans, who sacrificed their time and resources to attend their event.

“So far, these are the only casualties we have recorded,” Carson pointed out.

“Yes. I pray there won't be more. You can send an appreciation message to all our fans on your page, and request that they should mark themselves safe. I will do the same on my page.”

“That is a brilliant idea. I will also announce the accident, and request that their relations should contact us.”

“That is also good.”

Now, Allen, who was interested in their discussions, added, “You have a bright idea, but I suggest that you add the vehicle's plate number and brand for easy identification.”

Carson was pumped up with Allen's suggestions. He looked at Alfred for his confirmation, and he did. Then, he appreciated, “Thank you, Mr. Allen, for your suggestions. First, inform my father of the accident, and explain why we are not home yet while I concentrate on the fans.”
