Chapter 3 - Half the size

After giving the fishing bag back to the old Wang, he moved toward the Raw Fish Village.

Soon enough he reached his old slum house, and inside he started looking for something with the help of his memories.

And soon enough he found it. Below the straw mat where the previous owner slept, there was a small hole with a black cloth bag.

Magnus took out the bag and looked at it with his eyes gleaming, it was savings of his old body.

He hid the money here that was left after he spent it on his monthly expenses.

"This will help out a lot."

He pulled the strings of the cloth bag and looked inside he could feel the rumblings of the small copper coins inside.

Taking them out he placed them on the floor and started counting them.

"One... Two... Three........ Ninety-Seven." There were a total of ninety-seven copper coins in his saving.

Although it wasn't much, it would help him in achieving his goals.

Placing the coins in the bag again he held it inside his robe, so no one can see them.

This was the poorest of the poorest area, even for this small amount of coins one could get hurt and robbed.

Even getting killed would be no surprise for him.

After all the Village Administration paid no heed to the slums, they didn't care about them, no matter what was happening here.

And the lives of slum people like him were worth even less than some copper coins.

Standing up he moved out of the door.

"The butcher shop should be that way." He remembered from his memories.

Taking gentle and calm steps he again started moving through the slums.

Soon enough he reached in front of a relatively large shop just at the edge of where the main Village and slums met.

The shop was covered with black clothes and a small opening could be seen.

This was the butcher shop that sell all kinds of meats.

Magnus checked the coins in his pocket again and then took in a deep breath, he entered the shop moving the black cloth slightly aside.

Just as he entered he could smell the blood in the air.

There were many cages in the shop with different kinds of beasts caged in them, all ready for chopping up and being sold.

His eyes landed on a particular cage, in which a bird was caged, its feather black, and with a big body, it stayed in there, waiting for its future.

Magnus moved more inwards and soon enough a table came into his view, it was covered in the blood and meat of some animal.

A big knife was placed at the corner of the table also covered in sanguine liquid.

Behind the table, a black colored cloth hung, and from it, Magnus could spot another room.

"Hello is anyone there?" His voice moved through the shop.

And soon enough a bulky figure moved out of the shop, his step heavy, the big stomach hanging out of its waist.

He was wearing a white colored leather apron with a black robe underneath, his face was stubby and rough.

He looked old and soulless his shoulders drooping down and there was an annoyed expression on his face when he came out of the small room.

"What do you want boy?" His sharp gaze pierced Magnus as if trying to threaten him.

"I am here to buy a Black Tail Sparrow," Magnus said with a calm expression, he wasn't too bothered with his annoyed tone.

The butcher looked at the boy up and down, and then a sneer appeared on his face.

'How can a poor slum boy afford a Black Tailed Sparrow? Is he here to cause trouble? Even if he is, he came to the wrong place.' The butcher snorted.

Although Black-Tailed Sparrows were not that rare, catching them was pretty difficult.

So the only people who could afford the meat of Black-Tailed Sparrow were the inner people of Raw Fish Village.

And even they could only afford it once a month.

And now this slum boy has come here to buy a Black Tailed Sparrow? Unless a boy like him spends all his life savings, only then someone would he be able to afford the meat of Black Tailed Sparrow.

However, who would be dumb enough to spend one's life savings just to eat some meat?

With this thought process the butcher concluded that the boy was here to cause trouble.

'I will teach him a lesson if he is here to find trouble.' The butcher decided and looked at Magnus.

"It will cost Twenty-Two Copper Coins for one kilogram of meat." The butcher showed his index finger, indicating the one kilogram.

Magnus smiled and waves his head.

"I am not here to buy the meat. I need the bird alive, I can butcher it myself." Magnus replied.

The butcher looked at the boy and a ridiculous expression appeared on his face.

'This boy wants to butcher the sparrow himself? He will waste a lot of meat!'

"That sparrow weighs about ten kilos, with seven kilograms of meat on it, I will only charge you for the meat and even give you a discount of four copper coins. So that would be 150 coppers coins for that bird."

The butcher said and Magnus could notice arrogance in his voice.

He took in a deep breath and then looked at the bird and then he looked at the bulky man.

"Although I might look like a kid, I am not a fool, that bird is half the size of normal birds, so it shouldn't weigh more than five kilograms," Magnus said while pointing at the bird, his mind control technique on full rotation.

Although he could get the chicken for free if he used his technique, however, that would need a more complex thought, and several repetitions would be needed to implant that thought.

And he could tell that the butcher didn't have enough patience to listen to the same words many times.

'I would need to get stronger if I want to implant more complex thoughts with ease.' He remembered that the more the power difference from the target, the harder it is to implant thoughts in their minds.

The butcher raised his brows at the boy's remark.

"Boy, are you stupid or something?"

"No, you can clearly see that the bird is only half the size." Magnus pointed at the Black-Tailed Sparrow again.

"Boy, don't joke with me, I don't have time for your bullshit! My shop has the best Black Tailed Sparrows, I supply them to the Inner Village and have never heard any complaints about them."

Magnus smiled at his words, "That might be true but, my eyes aren't lying too. That bird is only half the size."

The butcher narrowed his eyes.

He started getting angry at Magnus, however, then his eyes landed on the cage again.

'Does it get a disease? Why does it look small?' The butcher thought.

Magnus's mind control technique slowly started working on him.

As the thought was not as complex as complete control and doesn't directly affect the butcher's body in any way. It only took three repetitions for it to start taking effect.

The butcher then snorted and moved towards the cage.

He picked it up and looked inside carefully.

As he was about to say something, Magnus's voice reverberated in the place again.

"Look carefully, its cheeks are flaccid, and even the beak is smaller than a normal one's, it's clearly half the size," Magnus repeated his words while also adding some more explanation to them.

The butcher who was about to retort, moved his gaze to the Sparrow's beak.

'It is indeed smaller.' He thought and then a complicated expression appeared on his face.

"It's smaller right?" Magnus said and a huge smile etched on his face, he could tell that his technique was working, or he won't see such a drastic change in the butcher's expression.

"It's clear as day that it's only half the size." This last sentence was like a nail in the coffin for the butcher.

'It is small.' The butcher concluded.

"Ok boy, my fault this time. How much are you willing to give for this?" He moved the cage in front of Magnus.

Magnus smiled.

'This technique is too overpowered!'

"Since you were trying to fool me earlier, I can only give you thirty copper coins," Magnus said.

The butcher listened to him and then he looked at the bird again.

'I swear just yesterday that bird was healthy and at its full size, I think it caught some disease.' The butcher concluded.

'Selling it now would be the best, as its condition might worsen.'

The man looked at Magnus with a complicated expression on his face.

"How about Seventy copper coins, you can even have this cage with the bird." The butcher said.

Magnus smiled at his words, the prize has already dropped to half with his power, however, he wasn't satisfied yet.

"Forty Copper coins for both the bird and the cage." Magnus put in a new offer in front of the man.
