Chereads / THE RISE OF GRINDELWALD / Chapter 14 - More than just a Bet

Chapter 14 - More than just a Bet

Above the entrance to the Slytherin dungeon, the black lake teemed with fishes and mermaids, it's shades are easily visible amidst the moonlight.

The green algae in the lake cast a verdant shade on the Slytherin Dungeons which is present below the Black lake.

Quite unusually, the ghost of Slytherin appeared.

The Bloody Baron, a ghost known for his somber demeanor, approached Valerius and inquired, "Are you the individual known as Valerius?"

Perplexed, Valerius acknowledged, "Yes, I am Valerius."

The Baron, recognizing Valerius's exceptional point contributions to Slytherin, expressed, "Since you have earned more points than any other Slytherin, I am inclined to reward you with gold."

Valerius, unimpressed, retorted, "When did a mere baron presume to look down upon royalty? Mind your actions. I belong to a royal house, and I won't tolerate disrespect." Valerius played joyfully with words.

The Baron, chastened, inquired, "Royalty? Are you from the Grindelwald family?"

Valerius was quite shocked and affirmed, "Yes, I am the heir of the Royal and Sacred House of Grindelwald."

Realizing his error, the Baron apologized, "I am sorry, my Liege. Please accept my apologies."

Valerius, magnanimous but firm, replied, "I will overlook this on account of your ignorance. However, there will be consequences."

Perplexed, the Baron asked, "What kind of consequences?"

Valerius outlined the punishment, saying, "Your task is to go and offer comfort to Helena Ravenclaw, atoning for your sins. Ensure she aligns with Slytherin, making it your secret mission."

The Baron, acknowledging the directive, responded, "Yes, my Liege. I will proceed on your orders."

~

Valerius was surprised at how his family name could influence a Hogwarts ghost.

That evening, in the Great Hall:

Cecilia inquired, "Nott, did you finish the Charm class assignment?"

Nott replied, "Never, but Valerius might have."

All eyes turned to Valerius, who calmly continued eating his dinner.

Evergreen chimed in, "Hey Val, can you share your classwork as well as your homework?"

Valerius replied, "Let's discuss it when we get to our common room."

Nott agreed, saying, "OK."

Valerius, being adept in mind arts, knew everything from the start. He advised, "Aren't you eating, Cecilia? Put a stop to your inner thoughts and start eating before the food gets cold." Cecilia nodded and began eating.

After dinner, all the freshman Slytherins gathered in the common dungeons.

Valerius handed over his work, cautioning, "I've done it in great detail. Copy carefully to avoid replicating my writing and grammar style." Everyone nodded as Valerius stepped outside.

Valerius had plans for taking a stroll in the night,

The housemates found it troubling to see a fellow student breaking rules. Valerius cast a Disillusionment Charm on himself and made his way to Filch's office. After an hour of searching, he found the parchment he was looking for and obtained the Marauder's Map.

Valerius declared, "I solemnly swear I am up to no good."

...

In Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, at Parque Lage, the headquarters of the Brazilian Ministry of Magic, Rosier gained recognition for his skills and was becoming popular at work.

Amelia Santos offered him coffee, saying, "Here, Lionel, have some coffee."

Rosier thanked her, and she asked, "Are you free tonight?"

Rosier replied, "Well, your grandma dumped a ton of work on me, I have to finish it tonight, Amelia."

Amelia said, "You're so busy. I'll ask my grandma for permission, so let's go on a date tonight."

Rosier thought, 'Everything is progressing as the young master told me to.' Amelia asked for some information, and Rosier said, "OK, but only if you help me complete the work."

Other staff members sighed at the young couple's interaction. Valerius had instructed Rosier to get close to Amelia, the only granddaughter of Vicência Santo, the active Minister of Magic.

This was the quickest way to gain power through unorthodox methods, and being kind and respectful to other ministers would lead to recognition and becoming a natural leader in people's hearts. Rosier's faith in Valerius was enormous.

Lionel Rosier already rose to the position of admirable Secretary of Vicência Santo, now he has considerable amount of power inside the Brazil Ministry of Magic.

After the late night date, Lionel wrote back to Valerius, his mentor.

...

Valerius "Messrs: Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs are proud to present the Marauder's Map." 'Damn what a cheat Item'

Valerius took the Map and went straight to his dorms and saw his friends writing Homework; to his surprise, Cecilia completed her homework already and was gazing at the fishes above the ceiling.

Valerius "Did you complete your work, Cecilia?"

Cecilia "Yes Val, I..."

Valerius and Cecilia walked away from the common room and headed towards the bedrooms.

Valerius "You know I am well-versed in Mind Arts; no one can look into me, and I also don't like to look into others for fun, but I can say you are so troubled, yeah know!"

Cecilia "Val, I.. OK! Now I am going to tell all my secrets to you, it is so troubling me and making me worse day by day."

Valerius "The fact that you kept your secret, itself impressive Cecilia."

Cecilia "Why is it impressive?"

Valerius "Well, most girls can't keep a secret; girls who keep secrets have a good amount of willpower."

Cecilia felt impressed and faltered. When she is with Valerius, it is comfortable for her to be herself.

Cecilia "I was bullied by all the members of the family, no one seems to know my mother and I am all alone in that manor, only with 2 photos and a house elf named Kercher, I have also used Dark magic based on Black family."

Valerius "Is that all?"

Cecilia "What do you mean by 'is that all'?"

Valerius "I thought you killed someone using an unforgivable curse."

Cecilia was speechless.

Valerius "See Cecilia, you are a Black, and it's OK; it is normal to be a Black. You know that Phineas Nigellus Black was the headmaster before Dumbledore, you must be proud of what you are, Cecilia. At least you are not a coward or an untalented person."

Cecilia's eyes swelled; tears were created...

Valerius "You are a really well-talented person, who is important to the world. Don't believe something else," Valerius flicked at Cecilia's forehead and said, "Sleep well; your eyes and brain need rest." Cecilia blushed while saying, "Thanks, Valerius."

Cecilia had a good night's deep sleep thanks to Valerius.

Next morning...

@ Dungeons:

Valerius "I think we are going to have our first flying class today."

Orion "Why? Why do you think so?"

Valerius "My source is from the timetable."

Oliver "Yes, I was looking forward to my first flying class; now I am going to attend for real."

Nott "Well, we will be the future of Slytherin Quidditch."

A senior from nowhere interrupted "There is no chance for you guys to join Quidditch you know."

Valerius "Why is that? And what is your name?"

Liz Turtle "I am Liz" she continued, "I am your senior year 6."

Nott "Hello Senior; may we know why we have no chance?" Liz explained "Well, a certain someone angered Merula, so none of you guys will be able to be in the Quidditch teams."

Valerius "Now I can see why Gryffindors are winning against Slytherins; it is bluntly because of a waste of talents."

Liz "What?"

Valerius "Now, you know that Merula is the one who is the team captain for 3 years; she only picks trash for the team, excluding emerald-like talent from the team. Of course, Slytherin, one of the great teams, loses and hits rock bottom."

Liz was unable to answer since what Valerius said is true.

Valerius continued "Are you really a sixth year? Seriously, your batch is immature."

Merula, who was eavesdropping on the conversation, showed up.

Merula "Do you think you are talented enough to win all the Quidditch games, Grindelwald?"

Valerius "What if I can?"

Merula "You should become my subordinate and serve a group I tell you."

Nott "That's ridiculous, Val; she is not a sane person; she is really dangerous."

Valerius "What will you do if I win?"

Merula "Is it even a question? Anyway, if you win, I will never disturb you ever."

Nott "Valerius, you should never accept this."

Valerius "If I win, you must Quit Hogwarts and be my subordinate. Meet me today at 6 PM in the common room."

Nott "What have you done Val?"

Valerius "Chill."

Nott was confused...

Merula smirked and walked away with Liz.

Flying class~

Professor Hooch arrived.

She had short grey hair and yellow eyes, resembling those of an eagle. "All right, what are you all waiting for?" she said sternly, "Everyone stands next to a broomstick. Quickly, quickly, don't waste time."

Valerius, in the middle of the line, reluctantly picked up a crooked and twisted old broomstick, its twigs sticking out haphazardly.

Cecilia stood next to him, curiously holding a broomstick that was almost completely bald, examining it closely.

"Stick your right hand and place it above the broomstick handle," Professor Hooch shouted, "then say, 'Up!"

"Up!" everyone shouted along.

the broomstick obediently moved into Valerius's hands. Muttering this kind of simple instruction, which wasn't even considered a spell, was no challenge for him. But for the young wizards, only very few could do it.

Cecilia's broomstick just rolled on the ground, and some broomsticks didn't move at all.

None of his three roommates succeeded.

Oliver and Nott's broomsticks got entangled, while Orion's broomstick hit him in the face with its handle.

Orion was always afraid of flying and heights,

There was chaos for a while before they moved on to the next step.

Professor Hooch demonstrated how to mount a broomstick and how to clean a broomstick.
