Chapter 55 - The Arrival of a New Guest

"My dear boy Arthas. I am indeed informed that you are not from this place and I can see that you know the agenda for today."

Mayward grabbed his cane with a tight grip and played around the handle. His smile continued to widen and spoke slowly.

"You see, outsider" Mayward's upper body leaned closer to the table. "The Kingdom of Moonglade, in many fights, has survived the trials of history. Where war begins, death follows. It lingers along the steps of soldiers that were forced to fight for their country."

"I am well aware that wars cause bloodshed and produce thousands of casualties. What's your point?"

Arthas continued to tap on the table in a continued rhythm. His eyes glared at Mayward while trying to understand his point.

The maid came back poured tea on their cups and quickly left, leaving the atmosphere to its immense pressure.

"You see Arthas. Alcemia has its beauty and history for its war and blood, but never have they been much more beautiful than flowers and plants blooming across the plains", he grabbed a tiny empty pot on a nearby table and observed its structure then placed it down. "But now they're not, they are now filled with blood and flames screaming for the joy of death."

Mayward played around with his cane moving it around and would occasionally throw it to his other hand. He took a cup of tea with his other hand and placed it near his nose.

After smelling the tea, he took a long sip and gave a long sadistic smile right after the steaming cup was off his lips. He grabbed a thin cloth and gracefully wiped his mouth.

"In wars men die, swords and spears bathed in the rich color of blood. It is a profound event that consolidates the pride and greed of every nation. But what then?"

He stopped to look at both of them and continued speaking once they were in the eyes of the other.

"What then? What then, What then! It's the people who die in wars that make the food, clothes, and everything we physically have sentiments. It's these men that die from the endless struggle to survive. And those men are sent to their deaths. Alcemia, The City of Wheat, Lunaria. Moonglade, The Seafarer's City, everyone is sent to the battlefield…except the children."

"You psycho what do you mean?" Arthas squinted his eyes as his tapping motion stopped and went steady.

"It's simple really, City of Elune, City of Alcemia, Lunaria, City of Wheat, and the Seafarer's City. These cities are a testament to the foundation and strength of the kingdom, they possess immense commerce and trade. But Arthas everyone is dead," Mayward made a gesture pointing his finger to the side of his head with force. "Everyone, the farmers, fishermen. For the cause of society's name or the kingdom, it doesn't matter. What's left? Their children, what you see as future I see as well, but after that, we differ in perception"

Throughout their conversation with the Mayor, he has been eccentric with how he speaks, and the gestures that he provides give off an explosive and attention-grabbing allure.

Every once in a while after giving a long dialogue he would occasionally drink tea and add sugar cubes. His leg would jitter tapping the floor making minimal clicking sounds. The black cane he would rub his hand and transfer it to the other after a certain time.

A profound eccentric and weird person, Arthas thought as he looked at Mayward once again drinking tea, casually refilling himself while both still hadn't even drank theirs.

They watched as he did everything in swift but erratic movements as he went through cycles of adjustments placing sugar cubes. His wide sadistic smile added to his weird atmosphere. Arthas crept about it, in this kind of conversation it's difficult to maintain a facade, while Mayward not only maintains it but uses it to confuse his adversaries.

"Children are the future of the nation. They are everything that every city and kingdom cherishes, but if there are no adults to guide them. Then who will? The academy? Those shits couldn't even teach me anything good. So Arthas what do you think children need?" He intensely stared at Arthas's eyes anticipating that he would answer, but Arthas didn't say a word.

"Nothing? Are you gonna stay silent? Fine! I'll answer it! Experience, Arthas, experience! They need to experience a hard life. That's why I helped them do just that." His sadistic unhinged smile grew further.

"What do you mean Mayward what did you do?" Moltar screamed at him full of resentment and anger.

"What I did do? I made my contribution to our society. Moltar would help the country in whatever way they could. I will allow them to experience work and train their minds!"

"You—Where are they!" Moltar shouted which filled the scenery with tension.

Mayward smiled erected much further and his eyes seemed to be smiling as well. His hands were gripping the cane with strength and his feet excitedly tapped the ground.

"What do you think I did with them? Of course, hehe I sold them!"

'Booommm'

In an instant, the wind blazed a fury of heavy atmosphere that ripped apart the beautiful scenery with the destructive power brought upon the fist of Moltar.

An explosive secondary wind washed up the first and made a sound that thundered through the area. Dust scattered from the ground as if awoken by the alarm of hostility and menacing aura brought upon by his strength. The dust settled after a long while and Moltar's fist was an inch away from Mayward's nose, it never reached him, or rather the fist was stopped before it reached him.

Holding on to Moltar's hand was Mayward who ever so slightly made a look of complacency as he flung the fist away from his face. Making Moltar fly to the side.

Arthas was prepared for the fight but it happened before he knew what was going on, he saw Moltar fly to the side and instantly he summoned Nemesis and Morpheus.

A large crumple of smoke swiftly appeared behind his back and amorphic shadows were seen that quickly turned into living moving creatures that quickly charged towards Mayward, A large flaming creature appeared fast and quickly swatted its tail.

In a flash of light, it hit Mayward before he could even dodge. The result was he was sent back flying a much further distance crashing into a large wall where plants and ornaments used to stay. The wonderful arrangements of meticulous artistry and patience were destroyed in an instant.

Smoke flowed upward as he crashed, then followed up by a quick figure coming out. Mayward quickly recovered before closing the distance between him and Nemesis and gave a strong punch to Nemesis's leg.

He staggered from the shock and strength displayed by his fist. Nemesis tried to retaliate but was punched in his large body made him fall to one knee but Mayward was sent flying back after Morpheus followed up with his tail. Seeing that Nemesis was pushed down Arthas wondered how strong he was.

Moltar was still on the ground with his movements being rigid as he seemed to be in a lot of pain as he gasped as he tried to move his body.

Mayward was thrown inside the rubble and ground with dust clouding up around him.

Nemesis stood with proper posture and roared with a sound that thundered through the area. His eyes and body began to heat up, smoke welled up from his large body, and prepared to fire his flames.

Arthas watched everything unfold at a quick pace, he was about to give Nemesis a go signal to fire on Mayward when a strong gust of wind blew through the atmosphere.

The tension and pressure were felt with strength. Arthas was swept by the ambient hot air and covered his eyes to keep dust from settling in, he looked around and found a man walking through the glass door.

Going through the door, the light illuminated as he gradually approached with heavy steps. The man went close enough to see his Dark Blue hair, with his glistening bright blue eyes, and his skin of pale white. Wearing a dark tuxedo with the same hue as Mayward.

"Stop!" His shout reverberated around the garden. "Arthas, that's enough." He quickly went outside and manifested a long sword made of water. It appeared out of the air and formed into a weapon. It was glimmering with the sun as the shine made it clear and sharp. Intimidating to heart.

Arthas eyed the person with an intense stare as his glare was met back with a cold stern expression devoid of emotion.

"That idiot sometimes may tend to overlook things and overdo the act. But spare that guy, he still is an asset to the kingdom." He waved his hand and slowly approached Arthas, then expressed his non-hostile intent by raising both his hands.

He stopped just in front of Arthas before extending his hand. The man moved with grace and looked with elegance. "You may call me the Arbiter for now, I have received word of your achievements and would like to see it with my own eyes and ask for help…"

The man who recognized himself as the Arbiter looked toward the rubble on the ground, with the dust settling in. A silhouette of a man can be seen struggling to stand up. "Mayward, please stay dead will you."

The Arbiter looked at his direction and gently crossed his hands as he watched Mayward emerge from

"Oh shut up, don't you dare complain, I helped you with your little act. Satisfied now?" He patted his clothes to take the dirt off his clothes.

'Cough, cough' Mayward appeared battered and coughed heavily. His clothes were full of dust and dirt as he approached a nearby chair before sitting down in a comfortable position.

"Seeing as you are in your present state. I would say it is more than satisfactory." The Arbiter raised his hand toward Mayward and a strong but gentle breeze descended upon him. "You should clean yourself off dust first before we talk."

Mayward took a while to clean himself as he would always complain and mutter slurs once in a few taps of his clothes here and there.

Arthas stayed silent watching their whole charade while Morpheus and Nemesis stood there vigilant silently growling at both of them.

I have to be careful, Arthas thought that one wrong outburst could spell his death. He looked at the Arbiter with a careful gaze, he noticed this and invited Arthas to sit down.
