The imps laughed maliciously as they slowly flew into the store purposefully sharpening their claws in an attempt to scare him.
Ray groaned as he opened his blood covered eyes to see the duo approaching him.
He attempted to stand but failed. Ray retried with his sword but when he finally stood up and looked, the imps' claws were already hurtling towards him.
Ray's body relaxed as he accepted his end.
"Mother, Lily" he thought "I'm sorry"
As he waited for his end, Ray noticed something.
His vision began to get clearer and clearer, and the attacks of the imps looked like they were moving in slow motion.
Ray simply moved out of the way.
Ray watched in shock as the imp's eyes widened before turning towards his new location.
"I…awakened?" Ray said as he looked at his hands in awe.
Ray smiled as he gripped his sword and chopped the wrists off the imps in two fluid motions before cutting off their heads quickly watching them fall.
"Now I can truly help" Ray smiled.
Ray ran around with his new superspeed, quickly dismantling the monsters.
As he was saving a group of civilians from a goblin, a figure burst through the wall of a building straight into him. Ray was sent flying.
Standing up, Ray hardened his grip on his sword.
A grotesque fusion of man and beast consumed by madness. Wild, bloodshot eyes and foaming mouth accompany its distorted face and jagged teeth. Its thunderous hooves strike fear, heralding a relentless predator driven by feral aggression.
The centaur continued to charge through the streets, trampling everything in its path.
"D rank…" Ray muttered.
Ray's super-speed ability pushed him to his limits as he darted towards the creature, determination etched on his face.
With lightning-fast reflexes, Ray travelled through the chaos towards the disappearing centaur slashing any monsters along his path.
As the centaur was about to charge into a group of people, Ray caught up from behind and barged into the centaur from the side changing its cause and throwing it into a massive fountain which instantly imploded on impact.
The centaur roared as dust and rubble dropped off its body and it turned its rabid eyes towards Ray as it rubbed its hooves against the ground and charged towards him.
Ray side stepped with his sword drawn using the centaur's own momentum to slash against its hips. The centaur screams as it stops and swings its muscular arms at Ray. Ray responded by dodging forward with his sword pushed forwards. The tip of the sword barely went in an inch.
"Damn it" Ray sighed as he was backhanded into the distance losing the sword.
As Ray shook his head and stood up, he couldn't help but notice the valiant efforts of other hunters engaging the various monsters that had emerged from the dungeon break. The other hunters fought valiantly against the F and E rank monsters that had erupted from the dungeon break. Each clash was a struggle, and the city streets became a battlefield.
They fought with determination and skill, their strength on full display.
As the centaur charged over, Ray began to cross blows with the centaur using the slowed down time to evade and counter every punch the centaur threw at him. The centaur roared in pain, stumbling back from the assault. It was a testament to Ray's newfound powers and his unyielding spirit. The monster, now injured and disoriented, attempted to retaliate, but Ray's speed proved too much to handle as he felt more adrenaline flush his system as he got faster and faster.
Amidst the chaos, a fellow hunter caught sight of Ray's astonishing speed. He yelled, his voice filled with awe and urgency. "Everyone, look! That kid, he's a speedster! Let's rally behind him!"
Inspired by Ray's display of power and determination, the other hunters shifted their focus. They coordinated their efforts, targeting the monsters threatening the city's safety. Together, they formed a united front against the encroaching threat.
Ray continued to push himself, his body moving in better synchronisation with his newfound abilities. With each passing moment, he grew more confident and skilled, landing precise blows against the centaur. The monster's strength waned, and finally, with the support of the other hunters, it collapsed to the ground defeated.
Breathing heavily, Ray stood amidst the aftermath of the battle, his eyes scanning the battlefield. Other hunters stood their ground, some victorious, others battered but unwavering. The city, though scarred, had been saved from the immediate danger.
As the chaos settled, a veteran hunter approached Ray whilst he was picking up his sword, his voice filled with admiration. "Kid, you've got some serious potential. With skills like that, you'll be a valuable asset to the Hunters Association."
Ray nodded, his heart still racing. "Thank you. I've always wanted to make a difference. This just reaffirms my determination."
The veteran hunter clapped a hand on Ray's shoulder, offering a smile. "Keep that fire burning, kid. We need more hunters like you."
The hunters dispersed as they ran towards other monsters as Ray did the same, everyone aiming to save the normal citizens.
