But as I was walking, I didn't notice a tree root sticking out of the ground. I tripped over it and lost my balance. I fell forward, landing on the grass with a thud.
"Ow!" I groaned and rubbed my head, feeling a bit dizzy. I looked up and saw something that made me gasp.
A girl.
She was sitting beside the cherry blossom tree, holding a sketch book on her lap.She had long brown hair that fell over her shoulders, and bright green eyes that sparkled in the moonlight .
She was stunning.
She looked at me with a surprised expression, and I felt my heart race.
"Hi," she said cautiously. "Are you okay?"
I blinked and realized how awkward this was. I had just fallen in front of a stranger, a girl.
I quickly got up and dusted myself off, feeling my face turn red.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," I said, trying to act casual. "I just...uh...didn't see that root."
I pointed at the root, hoping she would find it funny or understandable.
But she didn't. She just frowned and said, "That's not a root. That's a branch."
I felt a pang of curiosity for her. Who was she? What was she doing here?
I wanted to know more about her.
I cleared my throat and said, "Hey, a...How did you find this place?"
She smiled and relaxed a bit. "I come here every night when the cherry blossom tree blooms," she said. "It's my favorite place in the world."
"Mine too," I said, without thinking.
She looked at me with interest and curiosity. "Really?"
I hesitated for a moment, then decided to tell her the truth.
I said
"Actually it is my first time coming here".
She smiled and said, "That's okay. I'm glad you came here tonight."
She gestured at the cherry blossom tree and said, "the tree is beautiful.", which was indeed beautiful.
I cleared my throat and said, "Yeah, you're right. The tree is beautiful. And so are you."
I immediately regretted saying that. It sounded cheesy and lame.
But she didn't seem to mind. She just smiled and said, "Thank you. That's very sweet of you."
She paused and added, "By the way, I'm May."
She extended her hand towards me.
I took it and felt a warm and gentle sensation.
"I'm Sky," I said.
And that's how we met.
