I picked up the box that was lying beside me. I opened it and thought to myself, "It won't be any problem for me to look at it, right?"
I took out one sketch book and put the box down. I started with the front page of the sketch book, where her details were written. "Name... Maylen... May... Featherstone..." I admitted that I couldn't read names this long, so I took a deep breath and moved on to the next line. Everything else was blank, except for the date of birth. "I wonder when her birthday is," I thought. I read, "Date of birth... date of birth... 5th of..." Wait, 5th of this month? I realized after knowing her date of birth that it was only three days away.
I put the sketch book back in its place and started thinking about what to do. After thinking for a while, I remembered something important. "People usually give gifts on birthdays, right?" I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that I could at least give her a gift as her friend. But then I remembered something else important. "What kind of gift do girls like?" I had never given a girl a gift before. While I was thinking about all these things, May came and tapped on my shoulder.
"Sky, are you okay? You look weird," she said.
I smiled and said, "Nothing, just some trivial things, that's all."
She looked at me for a few seconds and said, "Okay, if you say so. By the way, I have to go now."
I said, "Oh, right, it's getting late."
She put her sketch books back in the box and hid it. She walked a few steps, then turned around and said, "Okay, Sky, bye."
I was slowly walking backwards, saying, "Bye, May." As I watched her leave, I turned around and went on my way.
