Kaori made his way through Viridian Forest with his team. He fought many trainers and trained his Pokémon in different ways. Running, dodging projectiles, controlling the element of their typing, etc.… The result. Everyone reached lv 14 and Weedle became a Beedrill.
'System. Status of my team.'

'Certain events?'
[Catalysts of sorts, that make the Pokémon go beyond their normal limits and evolve. The only exception is trade and stone evolution]
'So even if Spearow becomes Fearow and goes beyond lv 40 at night, he may not evolve?'
[Affirmative]
'Oh well, doesn't bother me at all anyway.'
After walking for a while and admiring the scenery, Kaori finally arrived at Pewter City.
'Pewter City, home of my first badge and the person responsible for feeding Ash and his Pokémon for the first four regions.'
Kaori frees his Pokémon and take a detour to a park area to play with everyone.
"Okay guys! We have to challenge the gym tomorrow so; I want all of you well-rested so we'll go to sleep early at 8. So, for now, let's play for a while, you deserve it after all that training."
The group agrees and they all went to play. Chimchar started to dig around, Beedrill was flying as close to the ground as possible, Spearow kept playing "tag" with Kaori (He was trying to attack him) and Bulbasaur was playing with a flower he found in the ground.
Kaori and his Pokémon were having a blast but, nighttime was falling and they had to look for a hotel to sleep for the night. Kaori had saved quite the amount of Poké dollars while doing some minor chores in Pallet Town.
The next day, Kaori and his gang went to Pewter City's gym to get their first badge.
Kaori enters the gym and a grown man receives him.
"Howdy youngster! Did you come here for a gym battle?" Asked the man.
"Yes sir. My name is Kaori from Pallet Town."
"Well come on in, the gym leader is beyond this door. The name's Flint by the way."
(Brock's father is named Flint, look it up.)
Kaori entered the main stage and saw a teenager around his age in the other end of the arena.

"Welcome challenger, my name is Brock and I'm Pewter City's gym leader."
"I'm Kaori from Pallet Town. Nice to meet you." Kaori bows as a sign of respect.
Flint takes the role as a referee and stands in the middle side of the arena.
"This is a 2v2 Pokémon battle, the challenger can freely change its Pokémon but, the leader cannot. Battle ends when either side doesn't have a single Pokémon to battle. Am I clear?"
Both Brock and Kaori nod.
"The please, send your first Pokémon."
"Come out Geodude!"
"Chimchar, I choose you!"
Both trainers send their Pokémon out and wait for the signal.
"Let the battle, Begin!"
"Geodude use Tackle!"
"Geo!"
"Chimchar counter with Power-Up Punch!"
"Char!"
Both of the attacks connect but Chimchar, having use a move with type advantage, wins the clash. Geodude falls back but gets up, Chimchar gets an attack boost by one stage.
"Use Sandstorm."
Geodude summons a large sandstorm that covers the entire field. Chimchar gets damaged by the sandstorm.
"Chimchar, use Dig!"
Chimchar goes underground to avoid damage, but that is exactly what Brock wanted.
"Geodude, Magnitude."
'Damn!'
Geodude strikes the ground and generates a small earthquake and damages Chimchar.
Both Brock and Kaori are waiting for a result. Chimchar emerges from the ground and attacks Geodude.
"Finish him with Iron Tail!"
Chimchar's little fiery tail glows grey and strikes Geodude with it, knocking him out, the Sandstorm also stops.
"Geodude can no longer battle, the winner is, Chimchar."
"Geodude, come back."
"Chimchar, come back."
"Your Pokémon is quite well trained." Brock.
"I know, but I'm not. I was just lucky that the Magnitude was at below 7, otherwise I Chimchar would've fainted." Kaori.
"Well, luck won't save you this time." Brock takes out another Poké Ball and throws it.
A big Onix comes out of it and roars.
'I let my guard down but, why? Why? Is this so much fun?' Kaori thought.
'Winning, losing, nothing matters, just me, my team and the battle. Since he wants to fight, I'll trust him on this one.' Kaori throws his second Pokémon into the stage.
"Spearow!"
"A Spearow?!" Flint.
"Just to be clear, I'm not underestimating you. This fella wanted to battle and I'll trust him to defeat you. Right, Spearow?"
"Spearow!"
"Fine then. Onix, use Tackle!"
Onix's massive body lunges at Spearow.
"Avoid with Agility!"
Spearow starts flying and envelops himself with a blue aura that increases his speed.
Onix's attack misses and crashes on the ground.
"Once again, Sandstorm."
Onix summons another Sandstorm.
"Keep going for Agility."
Spearow swiftly circles around the arena, receiving as little damage as he can.
"Leer!"
Spearow uses Leer and reduces Onix's defenses.
"Onix, use Rock Throw!"
Onix breaks the ground and starts throwing pieces of rock towards Spearow.
"Spearow, dodge them and go to the offense, use Steel Wing!"
Spearow easily dodges the Rock Throw and closes in against Onix, delivering a super-effective Steel Wing.
Onix falls but it's not defeated.
"Another one."
Spearow goes for another strike but Onix counters.
"Use Bind and pin Spearow down with your weight."
Onix catches Spearow and binds him with his heavy rock-like body. Spearow can't escape and on top of that, the weight of Onix makes him receive twice the damage.
'Think Kaori, think. Spearow won't hold out for much longer, and Chimchar is not that good to receive a single hit from Onix.'
'I've got it!'
"Spearow! Relax and skinny your body to flee Onix's Bind."
Spearow calms his breath and skinny his belly to reduce the space in-between him and Onix, then, with his raised Agility, he escapes the Bind.
"Now, use Aerial Ace and fly around Onix."
Spearow starts flying faster and faster, creating a cyclone that blinds Onix.
"Onix, use slam!"
Onix tries to slam its tail to hit Spearow but, the little bird is too small and too fast to be hit by it. when Spearow has gained enough momentum, Kaori gives the final order.
"Finish the fight with Steel Wing!"
Spearow charges a Steel Wing while using Aerial Ace and delivers a powerful blow to Onix's head.
Flint waits for a moment until he gets near Onix and sees spirals in his eyes.
"Onix can no longer fight. The winner is Spearow, meaning that the winner of the battle is, the challenger Kaori."
"Alright! We did it Spearow." Kaori lunges to hug Spearow.
Spearow avoids it and Kaori smashes into the ground.
Kaori then release all his team and prepares to celebrate the obtention of their new badge.
"Well done challenger, here is a testament of your victory; The Boulder Badge."
"We did it! we got the Boulder Badge!" Kaori poses.
"Bee!"
"Char!"
"Saur!"
"Row!"
"If you have a Bulbasaur in your team, then why did you go through the trouble of using types that are weak to rock?" Brock asked.
"To train myself as a trainer and train them in disadvantageous situations. I still lack a lot of experience compared to others, I need to overcome said situations to better myself, or at least that's what I believe." Kaori.
"I see, I wish you luck in your next challenges." Brock.
"Thanks. By the way, have you seen a boy with a red cap, two boys with brown hair but different color shirt and a brown-haired girl with a black dress?" Kaori.
"That is oddly specific but, I have indeed seen them, they each bested me and went on their way towards Cerulean City, which is also where your second closer Badge is. Why you ask?"
"They are my rivals." Kaori smiles and starts heading out the gym.
Kaori left the gym and Brock stood there with Flint.
"This year's trainers sure are talented, don't ya think so, son?"
"Indeed, it kind of makes me want to explore the region myself."
"I'm sure you want son, but you have a responsibility here."
"I know." Brock sighs and went to the healing chamber of the gym.
'Son, when you have a rock-solid goal, is when I will let you roam free the region. I hope that day comes sooner than later.' Flint thinks to himself and puts on his civilian costume.
Kaori enters the Pokémon center and he rest for the rest of the day.
The next day he manages to see the Rocket Trio getting blasted off again in the distance, so he knows that Ash will be in Pewter City very soon. Not wanting to obstruct Ash's individual growth, he picks his stuff and runs away from Pewter City.
