Despite quite the distance that separated Dobok's frontier from its heartland, the presence of the new imperial highway made marching far easier than anything Irene could remember from the last two years.
The carriages with their supplies and spoils moved quickly through the road, saving them the struggle of conquering harder types of terrain. With solid stones of the road below the carriage wheels, no cold, no rain nor any other element could slow down the progress of the mercenary column.
And without the issue of people slipping on random stuff, there were only between five to ten accidents a day, most of which could be pretty much dismissed. And in mere ten days, since the peace was announced, Irene finally saw the silhouette of the city appear far on the horizon.
'It's been quite a while, wasn't it?' Irene thought once she recognized the familiar shape of the guard towers densely covering the massive wall that surrounded Dobok's capital city.
