Chapter 19 - Job Complete

Cornelius let out a roar before he charged Fenrir, his dual swords held out to the side and low. Feeling his bones creak and his teeth groan as they started to elongate and sharpen, Fenrir suppressed his urge to let loose as he raised his sword to meet Cornelius.

The first strike from the noble had Fenrir sliding back a good foot but he used the momentum to spin and slash Cornelius across his arm cutting deep to the point where Fenrir felt his blade server muscle.

But despite the grizzly injury Cornelius barely flinched as he charged with one arm hanging limply by his side. The noble seemed to lose all semblance of control as he hacked and slashed wildly at Fenrir.

Finding an opening as Cornelius raised his sword high overhead in a downward arc Fenrir dashed in deflecting the sword strike with his blade held horizontally overhead.

Fenrir's other hand shot forward in a grasping strike aimed at Cornelius' throat. But at the last second Fenrir saw a smile split Cornelius' face as a golden light suffused his body.

Almost faster than he could track Cornelius' mangled arm healed and flexed with strength. Fenrir's instincts screamed as he leaped back but that wasn't enough to avoid the vicious slash from Cornelius that caught him across the chest.

Feeling a line of fire ignite across his body Fenrir let out a sharp hiss of pain but he didn't let it stop him. Lunging forward Fenrir didn't bother to dodge Cornelius' swords resulting in two new savage cuts across his back before he managed to tackle the boy to the ground.

Pinning Cornelius arms down with his knees, Fenrir drove his sword down intent on stabbing the smug noble through his neck and severing his spine. But before he could go through with his finishing blow Fenrir felt a sharp pain in his chest as something slammed into him and pierced deep into his flesh.

Looking down Fenrir stared at the throwing knife lodged in his chest. There was no blood however, only a glowing white light that grew brighter and brighter as it spread out to cover his whole body.

Feeling his body go numb, Fenrir slumped to the side as a message flashed across his screen.

[You have taken Critical Damage: Removing Owner from the Domain]

With that Fenrir's vision faded to black as he passed out.

---

Fenrir shot up in bed as his hand shot to his chest tightening around where a knife should have been lodged in his chest. Realizing that he felt no pain or discomfort Fenrir let out a long sigh before looking around.

Cots lined both sides of the room leaving a wide pathway for people to walk down. Some beds had curtains drawn for privacy but other occupied beds were left unobscured.

Before he could get up and try to walk around Fenrir felt his Focus buzzing as several notifications were waiting for him to view. With nothing better to do Fenrir pulled up the windows and began to read them through.

[Job Complete: Orientation]

While the ending of your time in the Monster Domain was a tad unexpected, your performance is nothing to scoff at. You have made a mark today young Adventurers take pride in your capabilities because now you are an official student of the Academy. What happens next is up to you, but it's strongly suggested that most Students enroll in 5 basic combat training and or magic training courses before attempting any Domains to access their first class. Students may also wish to seek to join a Cohort, a student lead group that gathers those of a similar mindset and nature. Cohorts often carry out competitions among themselves or large scale raids against the larger Monster Domains.

Closing the screen after giving it a look through Fenrir couldn't help but feel frustrated at his defeat, 'How was I supposed to know he had a damn berserk potion on him.'

"Fenrir, are you awake?"

Freya's voice broke Fenrir out of his sulking and he quickly called back as Freya pulled back the curtain around her bed, "So they got you as well?"

Fenrir grunted as he crossed his arms, "Yeah, throwing-knife to the chest."

Freya let out a sigh, "We can't be that upset over losing to them, did you see their teamwork. Also that one girl was able to cast actual magic not just use some staff. I still can't wrap my head around how the bitch did it."

"Mana Manipulation, with enough practice you can modify spells if your skill is high enough. She must have been taught by someone after awakening, just another advantage to being a noble I guess."

"Did Mordecai teach us that?" Freya asked with a confused look on her face.

"No my parents did, they used to be adventurers." Fenrir admitted nonchalantly only for Freya to stare at him with wide eyes.

"How the hell are you now just telling me this?" Freya asked as she half shouted and half whispered.

Fenrir shrugged, "I thought you wouldn't believe me, besides I mostly went hunting after we set up camp."

Freya only rolled her eyes, "You caught a rabbit like two times, I'd hardly call that hunting. I get it if you didn't want to tell me anything. I wasn't exactly spilling my life's story every night, just don't make excuses."

"I guess I owe you that much." Fenrir said before he got out of bed and stretched, "Any of your friends in here?"

Freya grunted as she kicked off her sheets holding her back in pain, "She's probably in here somewhere, but I'm more interested in-"

"Freya there you are!" Fenrir looked over to see a tall boy their age standing in the doorway, "Are you alright, did they get you too?"
