Chapter 52 - Plans

As Alexander maintained his vigil outside the door, he contemplated the intricacies of this Heroes of Might and Magic world. He recognized that while this world drew inspiration from the game, the dynamics were significantly altered in this real-world setting.

In this universe, the Inferno faction leaders were embodied by high-rank demons. They didn't recruit their armies with gold coins, a concept irrelevant to these beings. Instead, they summoned their forces from the Abyss. After all, what use did demons have for currency? Their armies were composed of fellow demons, and their hierarchy was clearly delineated.

The leaders were high-rank demons, and their troops were comprised of big, high-rank demons, albeit with variations in power. Yet, the challenge arose when Xeron and his allies decided to face a formidable foe. High-rank demons could not enslave one another, necessitating a different approach. They enslaved low-rank demons, while middle-rank demons were utilized as mounts. Only demons of the same high rank could engage in transactions as equals. This strict caste system was based on strength, bloodline, and rank.

Alexander saw an opportunity in this world, one that didn't exist in the Abyss. Here, he could observe and interact with high-rank demons, gaining insight into their hierarchical distinctions. This understanding could prove invaluable as he continued to advance.

However, the most significant revelation was the departure from the game's rules. In the Heroes of Might and Magic game, heroes led their armies, employing various magical abilities and unique traits to bolster their troops. Importantly, they were immune to enemy attacks. But in this real world, heroes were thrust onto the battlefield alongside their armies. The real stakes of war applied, and heroes could perish. Alexander understood that the belligerent nature of races like demons made it unlikely for Xeron and his allies to simply hide behind their forces, content with casting spells from the rear.

Alexander realized that the presence of mortal peril for these heroes created an opportunity for him to maneuver. It was a significant departure from the game's dynamics, and he intended to exploit it to his advantage.

The Heroes of Might and Magic world was one that centered around war, and it was not a bad idea for Alexander to remain here. After all, he could amass a large number of souls to strengthen himself. However, even if he wanted to plunder souls, he did not want to do it under coercion. If possible, Alexander certainly preferred waiting until he was more powerful before entering this world to fight as a hero. This way, he would not be picking up the leftovers of others but keeping all the harvest.

Had it been Alexander, he too would have liked to enslave other demons to fight for him and harvest those souls on his behalf.

Although Alexander had appeared to be obedient all this while, causing Xeron to let his guard down, Alexander had never wavered in his desire to get rid of that demon contract.

Since Xeron used the demon way to treat him, he too could use the demon way to treat Xeron. And the best way to get out of a demon contract in the demon way was to have the contractor die!

If the scale of the war was not big enough, Alexander would have had difficulty doing so. But now, Alexander heard the best news for him.

The enemy this group of demons wanted to deal with was actually dragons. Not only that, but there was also a queen of the gold dragons!

Alexander had initially been mentally prepared to work under Xeron for a long time, but little did he expect that the opportunity would come so soon. Alexander might not be able to kill Xeron alone, but he could do it with the help of the dragons! As long as Xeron died in the battle with the Gold Dragon Queen, Alexander would become free...

So, it's time to plan...
