Alexander wasn't foolish enough to openly devour souls during a battle, especially considering the consequences of Xeron discovering his actions. To maintain discretion, Alexander opted to utilize the system's storage function to conceal the souls. This method offered a covert and efficient means of collecting souls without arousing suspicion from Xeron.
Following the elimination of the AvLee elven village, the demon army continued its march. Xeron, mounted on his tall nightmare warhorse named Mordika, led the way. The imposing nightmare warhorse was clad in sturdy armor, leaving trails of flames in its wake as it strode on its four fiery hooves. Xeron, seated atop Mordika and wielding a black scythe, appeared grand and commanding as he was accompanied by thousands of demon troops.
Over the next few days, the demon army encountered more migrating elves, with Xeron taking the opportunity to emphasize the destructive nature of demons.
Their path was marked by devastation—anything in their wake was consumed by destruction. Even when arriving at seemingly deserted villages, Xeron set them ablaze, reducing them to smoldering ruins. The aftermath of the demon army's passage was characterized by blood, corpses, and scorched earth.
These heinous actions naturally incurred the wrath of the elves. On the seventh day of their march, an elven scouting unit discovered traces of Alexander and the demon army. Initially, these elves should have reported the demon army's location and returned. However, upon encountering the lifeless bodies of their comrades, they were consumed by fury.
In addition to seeking vengeance for their fallen comrades, they noticed the substantial siege equipment in the demon army's possession. Consequently, they dispatched messenger pigeons to alert their fellow elves and initiated a surprise attack.
Though their numbers were relatively small, consisting of around a hundred pegasus knights, they specialized in swift and agile maneuvers. These elven warriors were mounted on pegasi, a unique breed associated with the AvLee elves. Resembling ordinary horses but sporting broad wings on their backs, pegasi possessed the remarkable ability to gallop on land and fly at low altitudes. Each pegasus knight was armed with sharp blades, and their high-speed charges often inflicted significant damage upon their foes.
The target of this pegasus knight assault was clear—the heavy cargo that the demon army was transporting.
The pegasus knights emerged from midair and swooped down straight for the gigantic catapults. When they flew by, they slashed the weaker support structures of the catapults and destroyed four of them in merely one round of attacks. When the heavy wooden catapults collapsed, they crushed many of the hellhounds nearby.
The pegasus knights flying above the demon army angered Xeron. He would rather lose the army than the siege equipment. With the workmanship of the demons, repairing or even rebuilding them posed a challenge. Without siege equipment, Xeron and his army would be at a loss upon reaching the elven cities. After all, he was leading only low-rank demons and did not have many attacking methods against tall city walls...
Seizing the opportunity while the pegasus knights were circling back at low altitude, Xeron raised his demon scythe and used it as a magic staff. Following his action, a bolt of lightning appeared over the pegasus knights flying in! The lightning first hit one of the pegasus knights' heads and then struck another pegasus knight behind!
This bolt of lightning jumped back and forth seven or eight times among the pegasus knights, giving them no time to react before striking them. Every knight struck by the lightning became charred and, together with their pegasus, fell from the sky, turning into meat sauce as they hit the ground.
This spell was Chain Lightning and absolutely powerful!
Seeing this scene, Alexander could not help but pay silent tribute for these pegasus knights. Based on his observation during this time, he discovered that Xeron, this high-rank demon, knew the four magic elements in this world, and at least two magic elements were advanced. One was the earth element, and the other was the air element. The earth magic was when the volcano was detonated, and Alexander had seen the Earthquake spell. And the air magic was the Chain Lightning just now!
As for water magic, Xeron seldom used it. But when Alexander was summoned, he suffered from the Weakness spell that even negated his Bloodlust, so his water magic was definitely not low level.
