Chereads / The Path Of A Mage / Chapter 68 - The Right Choice

Chapter 68 - The Right Choice

Sitting on his bed in the morning, Jake was concentrating on the flow of magic in his body. Ha had woken up earlier than usual today to start concentrating on his magic flow, he needed all the time he could get to make his magic stronger and increase his stats.

The coming week was the remaining time Jake had left to prepare for the magic duel between him and Duke. Jake knew he had increased his stats a lot since the time Duke challenged him to a magic duel but he wasn't so naive to think Duke also hadn't increased his strength.

Jake knew Duke had invisibility magic and because of that, defeating him in the duel was going to be difficult. If Duke was a person who naturally had a high pool of mana and also worked hard to increase the mana, then Jake would need a sure way to defeat him.

'Miss Anna already said she could teach me how to fight someone who's invisible but she said she would only teach me after she feels I'm ready to learn it. Whatever that means. I have to make her see I'm ready before it's time for the duel. I am not going to underestimate Duke, he's already very good at using his magic and he could get even better before it's time for the duel.'

Continuing to concentrate on the flow of magic in his body, something occurred to Jake. 'Which magic am I going to use for the duel? I could learn how to use Kevin's possession magic and possess Duke during the duel. That would be a very easy way to win if I'm successful in possessing him. But if I'm not able to possess him, I won't be able to use magic to fight during the duel, I'll have to use only my strength.'

'I think mimicking Miss Anna's shapeshifting magic is my best choice and it's also the right choice. Her shapeshifting magic is very powerful and if I can get her to teach me how to use it, defeating Duke in the duel is already a certainty. I have to talk to her about it.'

After focusing on his magic flow for at least an hour, Jake left his bed and went downstairs. 'I have to figure out a way to complete the last remaining quest.' Jake thought while looking at the quest.

[Quest]

[Hold an object with a temperature of 100°C for 10 mins= Endurance +5, +30exp]

'But how am I supposed to do something like this without screaming in pain? I need to do this somewhere very secluded. Which place is going to be empty on a weekend?'

Heading to the kitchen and taking a beverage out of the icebox, Jake figured out the answer. 'It's so obvious. The only place which won't have people around on a weekend is school. Only a few people will be in school for reasons I don't care to know, I just have to find a place in school where I can heat an object to 100°C and hold it.'

"How'd you come down here before me?" Sky asked, coming into the kitchen from behind Jake, opening the refrigerator and ransacking it.

"By walking with my legs." Jake said.

"Very funny." Sky said, heading to the living room with a bottle in his hand. "Is Dad awake yet?"

"I don't know, I haven't seen him yet and I didn't go to his room." Jake answered.

"So what are we eating this morning?" Sky asked.

"Maybe you can order some food, or eat the leftovers in the fridge, or you can learn how to cook. You have hands don't you?"

"Yeah, and so do you. I don't feel like eating leftovers and I don't see you cooking, it's better like that. So you don't burn the house down." Sky said. "I have a better idea, why don't you call Cat to bring some food for us."

"If I did do that, I'd tell her to bring for me alone."

"That's fine, I could just call her myself and tell her to do it."

"Why do you have her number?" Jake asked.

"Are you seriously asking me that? Why wouldn't I have the number of one of the most beautiful girls in our school?"

Hearing someone knocking on the door, Sky went to open it. "Cat." Sky said when he opened the door and saw who was knocking. "Just the girl we were talking about." he said then gave her a hug and kissed her on the cheek. "Come in."

"Good morning Sky. Good morning Jake." Cat said when she got to the living room and saw Jake.

"Morning." Jake replied and stood up to kiss her on the lips. "What are you doing here?"

"I just came by to give you guys something." Cat said, raising the bag she was carrying. Walking to the dining room, Cat unpacked the bag and brought dishes from the kitchen. "I cooked this morning and decided to bring some for you guys. Where's your dad?"

"He's still in his room." Sky answered. "Probably felt like sleeping more than usual today. Thanks a lot for thinking about us, you just saved our lives."

"What do you mean?" Cat asked.

"He means, he doesn't want to eat the leftovers in the refrigerator, he doesn't want to order something to eat and Dad's not awake to cook. So you just saved his life." Jake said.

"Glad I could help." Cat said while serving the food she brought.

Sitting down to eat, Jake, Sky and Cat were talking amongst themselves when Andrea came down from the stairs. "Morning everyone." he said.

"Morning Dad." Jake and Sky said.

"Good morning Mr Dipson." Cat said.

"What brings you around Catherine?" Andrea asked from the kitchen.

"I brought some food." Cat answered.

"Room for one more?" Andrea asked as he sat down at the dining table.

"Yes there is." Cat said.

After eating together, Jake went up to his room with Cat. Climbing Jake's bed, Cat said to him "I told you to learn how to cook. What if I hadn't come today?"

"I would have ordered something or I would have eaten the leftovers in the refrigerator." Jake replied.

"You said you're broke, how would you have paid for it?"

"Easy, my dad's credit card. And you said you'd teach me how to cook." Jake said as he joined Cat on the bed.

"Did I? I don't remember saying that."

"Maybe I can help you to jog your memory." Going closer to her, Jake kissed her. "Do you remember now?"

"No."

"Then I need to help you some more."

Getting on top of Jake and straddling him, Cat continued kissing him and running her hands through his black hair. After a while of kissing Jake, Cat moved her hands from his hair to his shirt and began to undo the buttons.

Squeezing Cat's butt softly and still kissing her Jake asked "Do you remember now?"

Smiling, Cat replied "I do."

Taking his hands away from her butt, Jake was about to take Cat's jacket off when they both heard someone knocking on the door.

"Jake?" Andrea called from behind the door. "I just wanted to tell you I've sent your allowance."

"Okay Dad, thanks." Jake said.

After hearing Andrea walk away, Cat and Jake began laughing and Cat laid down on Jake's bare chest. "That was a close one." she said.

"What? We weren't doing anything." Jake said. "And why am I the only one who's shirtless?"

"Well what do you want?" Cat asked.

"For both of us to be shirtless or both of us to have our shirts on."

"Hmm, no." Cat said. "Only you will stay shirtless, I like it this way."

"What if I refuse and try to put my shirt on?"

"Try it then you'll see what will happen." Cat said.

"That's sounds ominous, I think I'll remain here."

Chortling, Cat kissed Jake and he dragged her off him to his side. Now lying with her back facing Jake, Cat held the hand Jake put around her.

Snuggling, Jake asked Cat "Do you want to sleep?"

"Yes, just for a little bit." Cat answered.

Kissing her cheek, Jake closed his eyes.
