Chapter 18 - Field of Rivals

The first match was between Kairos and Lisa, or a clash between siblings. Come to think of it, I saw how Lisa fights but never saw how Kairos fights. Will he be able to win against Lisa? " You are thinking, ' Will he win against Lisa?', then the answer will be yes". How can you say that for sure? I mean you guys are far more experienced than me so That's for sure that my chances to win are low but Yumiko herself said that in terms of the spirit level, Lisa stands top above all of us. " In terms of the spirit level, then yes but do you think that is all there to win?" What do you mean by that? " Let me phrase it this way, a crossbow is more powerful than a normal bow, right? ". Yes, it is. " So do you think a person holding the crossbow would win if he were to face a person who is using a bow". His chances will increase. " Correct, his chances will increase but what if he isn't able to handle the power of it? He will have trouble shooting the person who is standing right in front of his eyes. On the other hand, the person with the bow can shoot this person without any problem because he is used to the bow and can bring out his potential without any issue. Kairos's spirit level may be lower than that of her sister but he is like an indestructible bow who is used to fight against enemies far stronger than him. So don't worry about him and focus on how we are going to win against our opponent and especially you, who haven't faced or had any prior experience of having a spirit spar till now". Caelum seems too confident that Kairos will win. Maybe because he knows his potential more than I do, who has only seen Lisa fight against a wraith.

It would be a great experience for you, so watch very carefully. This is just a spar so try to imagine how will a war will go.

Usually in times like this, you should try to be more positive and cheer me up and say things like " It will be fine" or " You will do great".

Yom you, no. Just try to be you so I would not be in the air.

u want me to sugarcoat things for you?

Coming from you, no. Just be you and make sure that I won't be arrogant if I surpass them in the future.

So you mean in 40 years? Ok, I will make sure of that. Stop being a softie and start thinking about how not to lose miserably.

" Are you talking to your guardian right now, Rudra?". I was so focused on him that I forgot I was with Caelum. Yes, but for now I am trying to understand what is it trying to say as most of the things just go above my head so I am trying to make some sense out of it. " It is usually that way in the starting. It took me some time as well to make a connection with Zephyrus as well. Usually, he comes and goes as he wish and there were times when he just would give advice and I would take so much time to understand what he wanted to say. It was like trying to decode some codes of the enemy country". Looks like I wasn't the only one who thought that way. Why don't you guardians try and match our understanding so that it would be easy for us?

Shut up and try to focus, the match is about to begin.

As Kairos and Lisa prepared for their sparring match, their guardian spirits, Lupin and Phoenix, manifested with an awe-inspiring presence that transformed the training grounds into a realm of mystical energy.

Lupin, the cosmic wolf, appeared beside Kairos, its form shimmering with stardust and celestial light. The air around Lupin seemed to ripple with cosmic energy, creating a faint, ethereal glow that illuminated the surroundings. Its eyes, deep pools of the night sky, reflected the wisdom and power of the cosmos. As Lupin moved, constellations seemed to dance across its fur, leaving trails of sparkling light in its wake. The ground beneath its paws glowed faintly as if touched by the stars themselves.

On the other side, Phoenix, the fiery bird, soared above Lisa, its wings ablaze with vibrant flames. The heat radiating from Phoenix was intense yet comforting, like the warmth of a hearth on a cold night. Its feathers, a brilliant mix of reds, oranges, and golds, flickered like a living fire, casting dynamic shadows across the training grounds. When Phoenix let out a cry, it echoed with the power of rebirth and renewal, filling the air with a sense of invigoration and strength. As it circled above, embers fell like gentle rain, igniting the ground with small bursts of flame that quickly dissipated.

The presence of the guardian spirits added an otherworldly dimension to the training grounds. The cosmic energy from Lupin intertwined with the fiery aura of Phoenix, creating a mesmerizing dance of light and power. The trees around the arena seemed to lean in, as if drawn to the spirits' energy, their leaves rustling in harmony with the spirits' movements.

As Kairos and Lisa engaged in their sparring match, the spirits' energies amplified their abilities. Lupin's cosmic power flowed through Kairos, enhancing his speed and precision, while Phoenix's fiery strength fueled Lisa's arrows, making them burn brighter and fly faster. The spirits' presence was not just a visual spectacle but a tangible force that elevated the intensity and stakes of the battle.

Kairos stood tall, his dual swords gleaming in the fading light. Beside him, the ethereal form of Lupin, his guardian spirit, shimmered with cosmic energy. Across from him, Lisa nocked an arrow in her fire bow, the Phoenix spirit flaring with vibrant flames around her.

"Ready, Lisa?" Kairos asked, a confident smile playing on his lips.

Lisa nodded, her eyes narrowing with determination. "Always."

With a swift motion, Kairos charged forward, his swords slicing through the air with precision. Lisa responded by releasing a volley of flaming arrows, each one aimed with deadly accuracy. Kairos deflected them with ease, his experience and technique evident in every movement.

As the battle intensified, Lisa called upon the Phoenix's power, engulfing her arrows in even more intense flames. She leaped into the air, firing a barrage of arrows that rained down on Kairos. He spun his swords in a defensive whirlwind, the cosmic energy from Lupin creating a protective barrier around him.

Kairos saw an opening and dashed forward, closing the distance between them. Lisa, anticipating his move, summoned a wall of fire to block his path. But Kairos was undeterred. He channeled Lupin's cosmic power into his swords, slicing through the flames with a burst of energy.

The siblings clashed in the center of the arena, their spirits' powers colliding in a dazzling display of light and fire. Kairos's experience gave him the upper hand as he expertly parried Lisa's attacks and countered with swift, precise strikes. Despite her greater spirit power, Lisa struggled to keep up with his relentless assault.

Finally, with a powerful swing, Kairos disarmed Lisa, sending her fire bow skidding across the ground. He pointed one of his swords at her, breathing heavily but smiling.

"You've improved, Lisa," he said, lowering his weapon. "But you still have much to learn."

Lisa panted, a smile breaking through her exhaustion. "I'll beat you next time, Kairos."

Kairos extended a hand to help her up. "I look forward to it."

I think This the the second time I saw her smile and she was beautiful.

Falling for her charms?

Me? No way. Besides, I know that her whole family is dangerous so no way that is possible. Besides that, I don't know how to treat a girl properly and I haven't got a girlfriend in my whole life so, what am I thinking about? Shut up you stupid lizard and let me focus here.
