Chereads / My journey to become War God / Chapter 21 - The Unlikely Champion

Chapter 21 - The Unlikely Champion

The room went quiet as if I was the only one standing there. I stood there, stunned, barely comprehending what had just happened. My opponent, a seasoned warrior with years of experience, had been disqualified for an illegal move. I had won by default.

That was reckless, Using my powers without permission could have exposed us both. You must be more cautious.

I winced, knowing he was right. I'm sorry, Fulminor. I didn't mean to—

But, you managed to manifest your spirit weapon and wield my power, even if only for a moment. That is no small feat. You have done well, You showed resilience and composure under pressure. That is commendable.

I blinked, taken aback. Falminor's praise was something I had never anticipated. His approval was rare and hard-earned, and it filled me with a sense of pride and validation. Before I could respond, Lysandra, one of the most skilled fighters on our team, stepped forward. Her eyes, usually sharp and critical, held a hint of a smile.

"That was a good fight," she said, her tone surprisingly warm. "You may have won by default but held your ground well. I need more practice to ensure I don't make the same mistakes as your opponent."

I nodded, still in shock. Lysandra had always been tough on me, treating me like a novice. But now, there was a shift in her demeanor.

"From this moment on," she continued, "I won't consider you a newbie. You've earned your place here. I'll treat you like I treat the other team members."

Her words sank in, and a sense of pride swelled within me. I had finally gained the respect of my peers, not through sheer strength or skill, but through perseverance and unexpected victory.

Remember, victory is not always about overpowering your opponent. Sometimes, it is about enduring, about standing your ground and letting fate play its part.

I looked up at him, feeling a deep sense of gratitude. Of course, I didn't say anything. But somehow I could tell that he knew what I was feeling and after this match, I could also feel like our understanding of each other was growing more. It's like we are becoming one, or it is just my imagination?

Lysandra placed a hand on my shoulder. "Let's get back to training," she said with a grin. "You've got a lot to learn, and I'm not going to go easy on you just because you won today." It was a feeling I never experienced, this thrill, this excitement, this raging fire inside my chest. I wanted to win, not by some default but by my power. I smiled at her and said, " I would not be left behind anymore." And after the matches, we continued our training. One more thing happened and that was the main cause why these matches happened in the first place. OUR BET. Well since I won by default, they said, the bet was nullified. I wasn't in place to complain since they were right, but Caelum argued that it didn't matter since he has the least experience and was weaker than her. It was an amazing feat in itself that he managed to hold her off on his own and won, even by default. I was happy and felt insulted at the same time. But Kairos stopped him and said we will continue next time and by then it won't be by default. Nothing much happened after that and it was a normal day for the time being.

You did well today, But this is just the beginning. You must continue to train and hone your skills.Your next challenge is to manifest your spirit weapon, as today you did it unknowingly. It is a crucial step in your journey. Only then will you unlock your true potential.

I took a deep breath, feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension. "Falminor, you once told me that if I succeeded in manifesting my weapon, you would tell me about your origin and that of the other guardian spirits. Can you share that with me now?"

Very well. It is time you knew the truth. Long before the universe as you know it existed, there was only the void. In that void, we, the guardian spirits, existed alongside the wraiths. We were beings of pure energy, without form or purpose.

I listened intently, captivated by his words. "What happened then?"

A strange pillar of light appeared out of nowhere. It was unlike anything we had ever seen. This pillar of light began to shape the void, creating stars, planets, and all the wonders of the universe. We were drawn to it, and in its presence, we found our purpose. The light gave us form and power, and we became the guardians of this new universe. Each of us was imbued with unique abilities, tied to the elements and forces of nature. I became the guardian of shadow and thunder, while others took on different aspects.

I was mesmerized by his tale. "And the wraiths? What happened to them?"

The wraiths were also transformed by the light but unlike us, they were twisted by its power. They became beings of chaos and destruction, forever seeking to unmake what the light had created. It is our duty to protect the universe from their malevolence.

I felt a shiver run down my spine. "So, the battle between the guardians and the wraiths has been going on since the beginning of time?

Yes, It is an eternal struggle. But with each generation, new champions arise to join our cause. You are one of those champions. Your journey is just beginning, and you have the potential to make a great difference.

" But then where did it all gone wrong?" I asked. " Youa ll were the guardians, like brothers and sisters but why did they turned on you?"

I felt betrayed and it broke my heart but after I came to knoe the reason, I forgave them long time ago

'' What was the reason that they betrayed you" I asked angerly.

It is not the time yet. That reason, I will tell you but not today but it's the reason we need to grow stronger, as that reason is a strong being, a threat we have never faced.
