Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Shoutout to that one random dude that added this to his collection 2 days ago and gave me a sliver of motivation to post this.

Updates will be whenever I feel like it (extremely slow) so don't get your hopes up.

[Welcome to the afterlife! Please wait patiently for one of our representatives to meet with you!]

"..."

"Well sh*t"

Those were the only words I could say as I looked at the small shiny gold pamphlet that had appeared in my hands. Or was it the other way around? Did my hands appear around the pamphlet? Who knows?

'Is this seriously the afterlife? This place looks like the principal's office from high schoolā€¦'

There I was, alone in a simple, but admittedly cozy, office room. I woke up, or perhaps more accurately just appeared, sitting in a normal black office chair, with only the aforementioned pamphlet clutched tightly in my right hand.

Across from me was a large mahogany desk, behind it stood a nicer, and certainly much more comfortable looking, office chair like my own.

Strangely enough, the room I was in had no windows or entrances that I could see.

'The hell? Why couldn't they have given me a chair like that one if they're gonna make me sit here and wait? Is God on a budget or something?'

Dissing the afterlife's shitty furniture was all I had to do as I grew increasingly impatient. What kind of crappy afterlife makes you wait 15 minutes for a "representative"? Am I about to get a sales pitch or something?

"Ahem"

At some point, without me realizing it at all, someone else had appeared in the room with me.

I glanced up and saw what I can only describe as the most stunning woman I have ever seen. Her long golden blonde hair was put up in a bun, and when I say golden I mean literally, I could see the light reflecting off of it like real gold, not that I could even tell where the light was coming from.

She was clad in surprisingly modest flowing robes, but with an open back to let free her gigantic pearly white wings. The only odd part was that she had a pair of very mundane-looking glasses on, giving her a look similar to an overworked secretary.

I'm not sure what I was expecting an angel to look like, but she certainly fit the bill.

I was too busy gawking to notice the stack of papers that she had pulled out of god knows where.

Okay maybe I should stop with the puns but you get the idea.

She spoke with a voice just as pleasant, no, heavenly as you might expect from a bona fide angel.

"Alright then. Let's see what we're working with hereā€¦"

"ID 469466, resident of world NH-357656, deemed mentally fit, due for reincarnation to world MH-285981, has relevant world knowledge, allotted one wish from the supreme oneā€¦"

Before I had time to process the fact that I was going to be reincarnated, as well as those frankly suspicious number designations, the angel looked up from her papers and addressed me.

"I sincerely apologize for you having to wait so long in here, unfortunately, the reincarnation department has been quite understaffed lately due toā€¦ recent events."

"My name is Syxelpheia, my job is to answer any and all questions you have about the process of reincarnation and to prepare you for your meeting with the Supreme One. His time is quite limited these days so you will have to keep your meeting with him as concise as possible."

(A/N: pronounced six-el-fay-uh, not that that's very important since she's probably not gonna show up again but there you go.)

"Before you start asking questions, as I'm sure you will have many, please allow me to give you a quick briefing on what's happening right now."

"As you hopefully understand by now, you are dead. And unless you decide to opt out, you are going to be reincarnated into another world. Of course, there is a reason for this. You originate from what we call a feeder world, a world where the supreme one deliberately spreads knowledge and stories from other universes and creates ideal conditions for suitable souls to be born for reincarnation."

"Now obviously, he isn't creating worlds full of reincarnatable souls just for the fun of it. The supreme one has a need for agents that can be sent to especially significant worlds that for one reason or another, begin to deviate from their ideal fate in, let's say not-so-ideal ways. That's where you come in, should you agree, you are going to be sent into one of these worlds as a failsafe to ensure that it remains a civilized and effective one."

"Does everything make sense so far?"

I stared blankly at her for a moment as I took all of that in.

"Uh, I guess so? But why does this supreme one guy need some random guy like me to go watch over an entire world? Couldn't he just fix it himself?" I replied back to Syxelpheia.

She put the stack of papers that up until this point, she had been flipping through while speaking to me.

"Ah, that's a pretty common question, you see, the supreme one has hundreds of thousands of worlds to manage. As it is now, he barely has enough time to grant wishes to all the reincarnators. If he had to personally get involved in every single world that had an issue, by the time he was done with one ten more would be on the brink of disaster." The angel replied.

"I can see why that might be an issueā€¦ wait... Why doesn't he just send angels to do it?"

The angel answered me once again.

"We actually used to do that, but we ran into the same issue as before after the number of worlds grew far too large for the limited amount of available angels. These days, most angels have their hands full just managing the ever-growing number of souls in heaven and hell."

"Now then, do you have any more questions before we get into the good stuff?"

"You said I can choose to opt out right? What happens to me if I do that?"

"Ah, that, wouldn't recommend it. Should you choose to opt out of reincarnation, you will spend the rest of eternity in Limbo, quite a dreadful place that is, you would get to wander around literally endless plains forever! Not very appealing if you ask me."

I quickly changed my tune after hearing that.

"Okie dokie! Reincarnation it is!"

The angel straightened her glasses and took out another paper from the pile on the desk.

"Lovely! Then let's get right into the details. The world you are being sent into is called MH-285981. It says here that you should have some idea of what you're getting into. In your world, it should be known as "My Hero Academia".

I perked up a bit when I heard that last bit.

'Nice, that's not a bad one to get. The power scaling isn't too crazy, and there are a lot of hot girls to- ahem- interesting people to meet.'

"Now for the part I'm sure you've been waiting for: your wish. When we are finished here, you are going to get an opportunity to meet the supreme one and make a wish that will help you in your mission. However, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, no, you cannot wish for more wishes. You'd think that would be obvious, but way too many people have already wasted the Lord's time thinking they can pull a fast one on him."

"Second, although this is more a bit of personal advice from me, please do not ask for a system. They are not nearly as useful as you might think they are. "

"And lastly, any power or item you wish for must be able to plausibly conform to the laws of the world you are being sent to. For example, since you are being sent to a world where superpowers are the primary system of power, you cannot ask for something like a magic staff that lets you summon the dead, as it would not be able to exist in a world that does not have any kind of magic system."

I took a moment to ponder over what I could wish for as she continued to look through her papers.

Syxelpheia gathered up all her papers, clipped them together, and spoke to me again.

"Do you have any more questions before I bring you before the supreme one? I apologize for the rush, but I am quite pressed for time currently."

"Yes actually, can you tell me what kind of "deviations" I'm gonna have to deal with?" I replied.

"About that, my apologies, but I cannot for the simple reason that I do not have any idea. From what I can see,Ā it looks like the world you are being sent to is in a state of multiversal turbulence. Essentially, the universe that you are being sent to has abnormally weak multiversal barriers, giving room for all kinds of potential undesirables to slip through the cracks."

Hearing that gave me a slight pause.

"What exactly do you mean by undesirables? I'm not going to have to fight some ancient eldritch horror if it decides my world is a premier travel destination, right?

"Of course not. Anything of that caliber would never be able to make it through undetected. As a general rule, you shouldn't expect to see anything that is too unreasonably overpowered compared to everything else in the world. Undesirables mostly refer to things like rouge souls that can fall through accidentally, but in particularly rare cases, deliberate travel through universes is possible, although only between worlds that are already metaphysically "close" to one another."

I took a moment to ponder the information before responding again.

"That doesn't sound so bad then. Alright, when do I get to meet the big guy and make my wish?"

"If you're so eager, we can depart immediately."

With that, the angel clapped her hands and my surroundings shifted, to me it felt near instantaneous.

She had teleported us to what I assumed to be the palace of this supposed "Supreme One". We were on a huge island that hovered in the middle of the endless expanse of space. Close to the edge, where we were, the surroundings were full of lush green grass and the occasional tree, enough to be pleasant but not block your view of the giant fucking palace in the middle of the island that looked like it came out of the golden age of ancient Greece.

The palace itself was more like what I was expecting from a literal god. Grand marble pillars reached out towards the sky from a foundation made of contrasting black glossy granite. Part of the structure made a huge pavilion covered by an equally massive marble dome. Within I could vaguely make out the silhouettes of a vast number of people doingā€¦ something? Past the pavilion, a pair of massive golden doors led into the interior of the rest of the palace.

Syxelpheia spoke to me again after I had a few moments to take in all of the sights.

"Alright then, after you have received your wish, you will see me again so I can send you on your way to your new life. In the meantime, I have other souls awaiting processing that I must attend to."

"I wish you the best of luck, do make sure to consider your wish very carefully, after all, you only get one."

Syxelpheia clapped her hands again and disappeared in a flash of golden light.

'She didn't even tell me where I'm supposed to goā€¦'

'Oh well, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.'

And so I set off in the general direction of the palace of this "supreme one".
