(A/N: Slight change from last chapter, I was planning on having him be around the same age as the big three in UA but I decided it just made more sense for my plans to have him be the same age as the main group, edited chapter 2 to reflect this.)
"Alright, just a few things before I send you on your way" The angel said as a golden smartphone looking thing appeared in her hand.
"This right here is your lifeline in the event that things go catastrophically wrong. By catastrophically wrong, I mean something happens that is way outside of the scope of your power to handle. So don't use it just because you made a mistake, the consequences of that would be… inadvisable…" She said with a slight frown.
"In any case, this device will allow you to contact us in a time of crisis, and if deemed appropriate, you may be able to receive aid from us. Don't worry about losing it, it will be bound to your soul and only appear if you decide to summon it. If you are incapacitated and unable to physically control the device after summoning it, then you are able to activate it by willpower."
"Next, as per our quality of life policies, you will be allowed to skip up to 3 years of your infantile development before fully awakening. Your body will be imprinted with your soul and personality to allow for seamless transition into awareness if you so desire. Any questions?"
Hesitantly, I asked, "Why only three years? Can't I skip further, until I'm six years old or something?"
"Previous testing has determined that any more than 3 years of gap time creates significant problems in proper integration with the destination world, and in extreme cases has resulted in mental instability and permanent effects on ego and personality."
My face fell as I started to think about all the struggles of a toddler I was going to have to go through all over again.
I guess It's still better than any kind of "mental instability" bad enough that angels consider it to be a serious problem.
"I presume that a gap of three years will be to your satisfaction?" The angel said to me with a smile that I couldn't quite tell if it was passive-aggressive or not.
Do angels even know how to be passive-aggressive? I could only assume so based on everything I had already seen in this place.
I nodded my head in affirmation.
"Splendid! Now, one last bit of advice before you depart. There is no need to worry excessively about your actions causing ripples in fate. I believe your people call it the "Butterfly Effect". So long as you refrain from doing something too dramatic, the corrective force of fate will steer events back in the right direction. Your only true duty is to remove harmful anomalies with extreme prejudice before they can cause problems."
"Could I ask what exactly counts as "problems"?" I said while making air quotes.
"In essence, anything that could pose a serious threat to the overall stability and development of the world. Prevalent dangers in that regard would be conquerors, invaders, those to try to experiment with dimensional travel-magically or mundanely-and the like. The death or misalignment of individuals with especially strong fates can also pose issues, but there is more leeway in that regard if you are able to shoulder some of the responsibility yourself."
That was a little surprising to hear.
"So what you're saying is, no matter what happens, it should all be fine as long as I prevent any extra-dimensional shenanigans and make sure the good guys win in the end?"
"While that is a slightly crude way to put it, yes, you are correct."
The whole reincarnation gig was actually starting to sound better and better. All I had to do to secure my ticket into heaven was keep an eye on the protagonists and make sure things go just close enough to how it turned out in the original. And of course enjoy my second life to my heart's content along the way.
Sure, there would supposedly be some unexpected things along the way, but with my frankly quite overpowered abilities I didn't see myself struggling all that much.
Basically the perfect deal, what could go wrong?
Syxelphia got tired of my pondering and spoke up again.
"Since it seems like your curiosity has been satisfied, I shall be sending you on your way now.
Before I even had a chance to respond, she snapped her fingers and everything faded to black.
******
Just as promised, the transition into my new life was very straightforward.
I woke covered in blankets laying down in a–what felt like an extremely oversized–bed. Obviously, it wasn't that the bed was actually that big, rather, I was just that small. Granted, the bed was still a queen size, far bigger than any 3 year old should have any right to be sleeping in alone.
The first thing that I noticed, or rather remembered, as I sat up was my ever so slightly blurry vision. Just enough that it was a little hard to notice, but still might cause some problems if I tried to read something from a long distance.
As you may have guessed, my vision was naturally much better than that. My present state was due to the blindfold covering up the top half of my face and pushing my hair straight up.
I already had an impression of what would happen when I removed it, but my curiosity still took over as I slid it down, revealing the striking blue eyes beneath.
I took a deep breath as my brain was bombarded with information.
My senses expanded to cover the entirety of the Gojo family compound.
Nested in the middle of the forest, the estate was a mix of classic Japanese architecture and modern western styles.
Thankfully for me, the isolation of my home made it much easier to handle the strain of the six eyes.
Because boy was it intense.
The show and the manga could never really do justice to what I was experiencing. Seeing everything around me for hundreds of meters at the atomic level is no joke.
In some ways it even worked like x-ray vision combined with infrared. I could see through walls and barriers, though they impeded my vision slightly. The most curious part was the element of it that I tentatively dubbed as spatial sense. It's nearly impossible to explain, like trying to tell someone how to use an extra limb they don't have. Basically, I was able to see space itself and the way that it interacted with mass and is affected by it.
Seriously trippy stuff.
Thanks to these senses, I noticed the maid approaching my room and waited patiently until she reached my door and knocked politely.
"Satoru-sama, breakfast will be prepared soon and your presence is expected."
Oh boy, time to meet the parents.
(A/N: This one is pretty short cause I'm tired and don't wanna write anymore tonight. Question though, should I continue to use Japanese honorific or switch to something like "Master Satoru", I feel like the honorifics can come off as a little cringe in an english fic, but they can also provide a better perspective on the relationship between characters that is hard to emulate without them. Let me know what you think!)
