Chapter 13 - Razmuth

Another week had now passed; Raz had been training his magical abilities along with his swordsmanship. Raz had now been taught by Reina the spell "Minor Levitation" which allowed him to levitate items that weighed less than 5 kilograms.

Though Raz had used incantations to cast the spell at first, he soon realized what the spell actually was, and after that, he didn't need to use incantations again. With the spell, Raz would gather air underneath the object that he wished to lift and then push the air up. This in turn would cause the object to be lifted as well. However, it wasn't simple; if Raz lost his concentration for even the smallest moment, the object would go lopsided and fall to the ground.

Though Raz needed to concentrate to ensure the proper working of the spell, he had amazed all observers by not using the incantation after the first few casts.

Though all Reina had taught Raz so far was levitation, Raz had cast other magic as well by simply experimenting. Raz wondered if he could knock over a bucket of water from 10 feet away, and so he closed his eyes, concentrated on gathering air in front of the bucket, and suddenly jerked it past the bucket, causing it to fall over.

Another time, Raz wondered if he could make himself fly by casting levitation on his own body. And so, Raz attempted to make himself fly. He first gathered air under his feet and pushed himself up, but he quickly lost balance and fell flat on his back.

The next time, he made a sort of air platform underneath him which allowed him to levitate stably but when he tried to move, he would once again lose balance and fall.

Raz kept trying different variations, until he finally settled on one that worked. He would sort-of surround himself in a suit of air which he would then manipulate through the air to move about, giving him the ability to move omnidirectionally through the air.

One thing that Raz did notice was that for every spell he cast, he would fall his body heat up and then that heat be expelled out towards where the spell was being cast.

Raz routinely practiced his aerial skills, and it was during one such practice that he noticed a caravan supporting the banner of Lord Lanna approach the estate.

Raz descended onto the front lawn of the manor and looked on in expectation, his heart pounding against the center of his chest. The caravan was intimidating: the large carriages caused all onlookers' knees to tremble, the whooshing of the banners as they were swatted about by the wind seizing attention, the beautiful insignia depicting an Eagle killing a snake inspired grace and anxiety.

Having spotted the approaching caravan, the house servants waited at the front door of the manor. Raz noticed that the ones absent from the gathering were those who were responsible for working the kitchen.

The caravan stopped some twenty meters from the front door and one carriage stopped just five meters from the front door, right beside Raz. Raz calmed and pet the horse closest to him as a man stepped out of the carriage.

"Welcome, my lord," the servants greeted the visitor in unison.

Raz turned to confirm his suspicions, and indeed, it was Lord Lanna.

"Welcome, my lord," said Raz, giving Lanna his full attention. "How do you do?"

Lanna looked at Raz with a serious, pained expression. Raz felt his stomach turn.

"What's wrong, my lord?"

"Let's talk inside, Razmuth."
