Chapter 1 - Prologue

The rain lashed against the windows and the wind howled as the storm created its path through the Dark Moon Pack lands. The only other sound to be heard was that of Lady Alicia, who had gone into labour earlier that evening. This was lady Alicia and her mate, Lord Francis's first pup, and they were so excited to welcome them into their world. The pack's midwife stood at the foot of the bed barking instructions and encouraging Lady Alicia to push. Lord Francis gripped Alicia's hand and repeated the instructions, encouraging his mate along. Lady Alicia squeezed his hand with all her might, had he not been a werewolf he was certain that his hand would be crushed by now. He couldn't help the overwhelming sense of happiness in his chest as he looked at his mate and at how strong she was being. The midwife roared

"One last push my Lady and your pup will be here"

Lady Alicia pushed with all the strength she had left in her body, and then came the piercing sound of a pups cry.

"Congratulations Lord and Lady, you have a girl."

Lord Francis took the pup into his arms and moved gently to his mate's side and showed her their baby.

"She is beautiful just like her mum", he whispered to her.

Lady Alica raised her hand and gently stroked the baby's cheek.

"Hello Marie. You are loved my little pup". Suddenly her vision started to blur and her breath caught in her chest, a small groan left her lips and her hand fell from her pup's face.

The color drained from Lord Francis's face and a worry creeped into his chest. The midwife pushed her hard on his shoulder to move him out of her way and she ran to the side of his mate. Marie began to cry in his arms but all he could focus on was the smell of blood that had started to fill the room. He fell to his knees as he watched more and more people rush into the room. An elderly lady appeared at his side and lifted Marie out of his arms and moved out of the room. Lord Francis did not react, paralyzed to the spot. is vision and hearing clouded by pain, but the next sentence spoken to him hit him so hard a roar erupted from his soul and tears streaked down his cheeks.

"I am sorry my Lord, Your wife, our Lady, has died!

Everything faded to darkness around him, he could feel the darkness creeping into his soul. He roared

"GET OUT" to all the people who in his eyes had failed him. He moved slowly but with purpose to the side of the bed and gently took Lady Alicia's limp cold hand in his and he filled the room with cries of pain.

Hours had crept by and the rain outside had made way into glorious sunshine. Lord Francis remained unmoved, from his spot next to his mate.

"Please my Lord, your daughter needs you! and we must...we must move your wife"

"I don't want anything to do with that pup" he spat with hatred in his voice.

" My lord, please she is your daughter and has lost her mother."

A roar erupted once again from his soul which made the maid jump back in fear.

"LEAVE! And do not bring that murderous pup in here", he turned his attention back to his mate and once again shut the world out around him.

Lord Francis lifted his head from the edge of the bed, and he gave the hand in hs grip one final kiss before placing it gently. He rose slowly to his feet and walked to the door. He turned, taking one last glance at the love o his life who lay lifeless, stained with blood, and he walked out.

"Do what you must" he barked at the maids who had been standing outside.

"Your daughter, is restless. She needs her father"

"I want nothing to do with that pup, do with her as you wish."

The maids glanced at each other and the elderly lady who had taken her earlier wrapped her in arms protectively and left to feed her.

Time went by and the elderly lady gave up all hope of her Lord ever excepting his daughter. He refused to be near her or take part in any of her care. He did, however, agree with the elderly lady that she could raise her in his home and that he would provide clothes and food, but no love was shown from him towards his daughter.
