A few days had passed since Dean bought the ring. He had to find a spot to hide it without Camille noticing. He settled on his drawer behind a bunch of books.
He'd also been greeted with an envelope when he returned home. His mother, sister, and Camille sat at the kitchen table excitedly and impatiently waiting for him to open it.
Dean had opened it, anxiety washing over him. But he was relieved to see the congratulation's in bold printing.
They all had erupted into a fit of screams. Dean had been accepted and got a scholarship.
He had been impatient the past few days though. He wanted to start looking for a way to propose to Camille. He thought about the fancy dinner and the flash mobs. Even taking her to the amusement park or something, but none of that felt like something she would like. He wanted it to be perfect for her.
It was the middle of July now. They would be going to college together in the middle of August. Dean felt like the ring had been burning a hole in his pocket. Lately he'd been carrying it around everywhere. Hoping that maybe he could find a nice moment.
Camille had a bucket list. A bunch of things she wanted to do with his family before they left for college.
Today she wanted to go to the beach. They all got their bags together. Daniella and Camille went out to buy bathing suits and Dean kept in the t-shirt and shorts he had on since he didn't plan on getting wet.
While they were gone Dean approached his mother who was in the kitchen preparing little snacks.
"Mom"
She looked at him and smiled. "Hey honey, what's up?"
Dean hesitated and rubbed his hands together nervously. Then he reached into his shorts pocket and pulled out the box.
He placed it on the table, his mother's expression had turned to surprise.
Then her eyes softened. "When did you get it?"
Dean laughed. "A few weeks after graduation."
His mother hugged him. "I'm so glad you have found someone that loves you the way you love her."
He smiled "You think so?"
She grabbed his hands. "Son, I know so. I've seen the way she watches you when you aren't looking. She loves you with her whole being. That is your soulmate."
Dean smiled. "I know, I promised myself that this time… this time I was gonna marry her."
His mother wiped the tears from her eyes. "So when are you going to propose?"
He picked up the box with a thoughtful smile. " I don't know, I've been trying to find the right moment, I just feel like it hasn't come yet."
"You'll know, I promise."
He opened the box and showed his mother the ring. She had hugged him once again. She told him that he needn't be afraid because Camille would definitely say yes. Just do it when he feels the time is right.
However Dean was really itching to do it. He hoped that time would come soon.
Camille and Daniella had pulled up outside and Dean quickly put the ring away and his mother turned and started fanning her eyes to get the tears away.
A few weeks later Camille wanted to go to a flower field. She asked his mom and sister about it. While she was talking with Daniella. Samantha pulled her son aside.
"Dean why don't you two go alone? This could be the perfect moment. You could get into a nice outfit, she could too. I think you should take this chance."
Dean nodded and Samantha pulled Daniella aside. She had widened her eyes in surprise and then went upstairs. A few minutes passed by before she returned and announced she had gotten her period.
Camille got up. "Oh no, does that mean you can't go?"
Daniella nodded, "Yeah, I can already feel the cramps and the backaches. I'd rather just stay home."
"Well then we can go another time."
Samantha butted in. "Uh-uh missy. You have to do all your things on your list before you go. I'll stay behind and take care of her. You and Dean go together. We'll be fine, and waiting for the amazing pictures."
Camille turned to Dean and he nodded. She squealed and ran upstairs to get dressed. Samantha winked at her son. He returned a big goofy grin.
They had to drive about thirty minutes away. It was starting to get a little late. About 4:30 pm now. Dean had changed into a nice shirt, pants, and some shoes.
Camille was wearing a dress and left her hair out.
When they arrived they saw a massive field of tulips. It was breath taking.
Dean patted his pocket to make sure the ring was still there. When he felt that it was. His heart started to beat faster. This was real. He was going to do it.
They had walked around for a while and the sun was starting to set. He finally felt the buzz. Like it was finally the right moment, and he knew. Now he would do it.
"Look at the sky." Camille said smiling.
"Take a picture of it" Dean said. His hand already in his pocket. As she turned away and lifted her phone. Dean pulled the ring out and got down on one knee.
Camille had snapped a few photos and when she turned. There she saw Dean. A ring in his hand. Down on one knee.
She gasped in surprise. He phone slipping into the soft grass below.
She brought her hands to her face. She looked around. They seemed to be the only people around. And the sun was beginning to set behind them. It cast a light on the flowers around them making them look as if they glowed.
Dean cleared his throat. Camille looked at him.
Dean smiled. "Camille James. Though we've only been together a few months now… I feel like… I've known you for a lifetime. You are the breath of fresh air I need after a long hard day, and I want to be able to come home to that. My life was dull, and I wasn't happy before I met you… you walked in and lit up my world. I was blinded."
"I have no one else… you're my only one. I can only hope that you feel the same. So Camille… Will you please complete my soul and love me for the rest of my life?
Camille let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. She tried to steadying her voice and began to cry.
"Yes, a thousand times yes!"
Dean stood up and spun her around the same way he had on graduation day. When he put her down he shakily placed the ring on her left hand.
Camille couldn't help but sob-laugh. She stared at the ring on her finger.
"Oh Dean, it's absolutely perfect." She turned towards him. "I love you so much, more than you could ever know."
Dean smiled and embraced her pushing his face into her hair. "Actually I think it's you who will never know how much I love you."
And as they stood embracing each other, every anxiety, every worry was lifted from their shoulders, melted away. They could face anything now because they knew they would always have each other.
Camille looked into Dean's eyes as he looked into hers, and they sealed their night with a kiss.
