Chapter 19 - Chapter Eighteen: Edmunds Jealousy

The sun was rising on a brand new day. It was peaceful, but for one man, it was not a good morning.

"Damn that bastard."

Edmund was in his room, staring out of the window, seeing his Alex walking with his sister, Raven along with a maid to their personal training grounds.

"Not only does Father value him and his stupid magic, but he also has a beautiful sister that I'm not even allowed to talk to. It's such bullshit." Edmund thought to himself.

* knock knock knock*

"Who's there?" Edmund asked.

"It's me, young master; I am here to get you on your father's orders." The man asked behind the door.

"Did he mention what he wants?" Edmund asked.

The Butler sighed and said, "He asked for you to come see him, and he wanted me to repeat his words verbatim, "zip it back into your pants," and meet him in his office."

"I understand; give my guest a gold coin for her services and kick her out. I'll go talk to my father." Edmund said this while walking out the door.

"Yes sir." The butler said.

Edmund tossed a gold coin to the butler and left his room. He walked down the hallway, passing the house's servants on the way. None of them dared look him in the eye in fear that he'd do something as a result. Once he reached his father's office, he walked in, knowing what he wanted to say to him.

He knocked on the door and heard a simple

"Come in."

Edmund opened the door and saw his father writing letters on his desk.

"Take a seat." Edward ordered.

"Yes father."

Edmund sat down and waited a few minutes in silence until his father spoke to him.

"Do you know why I called you here?" Edward asked.

"No father." Edmund responded.

"Then you really are an idiot, son." Edward stated.

Edmund's face went sour with thoughts swimming around his head: "How could you call me an idiot? I do everything you ask of me, yet you barely even look at me."

"Son, you will be getting married in the coming weeks to the Valentine family's first daughter. You will not bring any whores or anyone else to your bed. Am I understood?"

"But father, that isn't right."

"I don't give a damn what you think is right or not. I said it, and you will listen. End of discussion." Edward states.

"Yes, father." Edmund said.

However, he had a thought cross his mind and decided to say it.

"I do have one request, father."

Edward stopped writing and looked at Edmund.

"And what would that be, Edmund?" Edward asked.

"Let me take Raven as a concubine." Edmund stated.

Edwards face quickly soured: "You damn idiot. You are a waste. Every day I see you think with your little brain instead of the one in your head. You bring shame to your mother."

"She is far too beautiful to be married to the damn Tarren family. Let me have her, please, father." Edmund pleaded.

Edward then stood up, which immediately made Edmund tremble in fear. Edward walked over to Edmund and punched him in the face, leaving a big bruise on his cheek and his lip to be cut open.

"Don't you dare say anything. Leave now. And I will have one of the guards watch your door. If you bring a whore or go into a brothel, I will not only kill the woman in front of you but also let my personal guard beat you down themselves." Edward stated.

Edmund didn't say a single word as he left; however, as he passed a window, he once again saw Alex and Raven training, which made his anger grow. Instead of returning to his room, he decided to go into town. To his dismay, he was followed by one of the guards in black armor.

He left the mansion with his follower in tow. However, instead of his usual place to visit, he went downtown to a certain place he had heard many rumors about.

Rumor had it that there was a guild building located in the town; however, it wasn't your typical adventurer guild but one where you could hire mercenaries to kill whoever you wanted, for the right price, that is.

As he walked, he got many stares directed at him, but no one dared mess with him because of the guy following him. After a few minutes of walking, he found the building he was looking for. A building that looked like a tavern, however, had an emblem of a skull and a sword behind it.

"This is the place." Edmund said out loud.

He walked inside and saw many drunken men laughing and partying around with women all over the building, but as soon as he entered, the partying stopped almost immediately.

"I want to hire some of you for a job. Anyone interested?" Edmund said.

"What kind of job?" one of the brigands asked.

"I need you to kill someone for me. It's simple enough, right?" Edmund said.

"Who are we killing?" another brigand asked.

"Alex Blackwood." Edmund stated.

Some chatter broke out after he said that, but four guys walked toward Edmund and asked, "How much are you paying?"

"If you succeed, you can have anything you want: money, women, land. I can make it worth your while. I'll pay you half now and the rest after the job is done." Edmund said.

"500 gold coins for each member of my team." A muscular brigand said.

"That's a pretty steep price; how do I know you're worth it?" Edmund asked.

"Ask anyone here who the best team is here for killing targets. They may not like it, but they will all say, my team." The man said.

Edmund looked around, and not a single person disagreed with them.

"Ok, so how many are on your team?" Edmund asked.

"Four of us. So that's 2000 gold in total. Think you can pony up, pretty boy?" the man said.

Edmund smiled and placed a pouch on the table. "1000 gold is in that pouch; the rest comes when you bring me his head."

The man checked the pouch and gave it to one of his men. "Count it up; if it's right, then we're taking the job."

After a few minutes of a man counting.

"It's exactly 1,000 gold, boss." a man said.

"Well, sounds like we have a deal; my name is Davis, pleasure doing business with ya." The man introduced himself. "However, we have to know your name as part of the agreement just in case you decide to skip out on paying us."

"Edmund Blackwood."

"So you want us killing a family member? That's pretty cold, but hey, we don't judge." Davis said.

" Good, he and his sister should be out training in the words nearby. Bring me his head and his sister, unharmed. If she's not hurt, I'll give each of you an extra 250 gold coins."

All four of the men he hired smiled.

"Deal, the boy's head and sister go to you." Davis said.

The two shook hands, and Edmund left the building.

However, Edmund had one last thing to do.

"Listen guard, I know you are immediately going to report this to my father; however, I'll pay you double what my father does to keep quiet about this." Edmund said.

"Double? Understood sir." The guard said.

"You're dead now, Alex, and soon I'll have Raven all to myself too."
