Chapter 23 - Chapter Twenty-Two: Inheritance

While Alex was having his dream with the two goddesses, Raven was wide awake in her bedroom.

She was sitting on her bed, consumed with thoughts.

"Why didn't he let me help?"

"What if he got hurt? What would I do?"

"Why did Edmund want to hurt us?"

These thoughts will be stuck in her head all night. She decided to go someplace where she knew she could calm down.

Raven left her room and started to walk down the hall.

She spotted the door she was looking for and creaked it open. Sneaking inside the room, she saw all the lights off, so she figured he was asleep. She looked at Alex, who seemed to be having a good dream. She saw a spot free to the right of Alex and got onto the bed and slipped inside the blanket, sharing it with Alex.

She stared at his sleeping face and smiled.

"Thank you for saving me." She whispered as she cupped Alex's cheek.

"I know how I feel now; I also know it isn't normal, and you may not feel the same way, but Alex, I love you. Not as a sibling, but I truly love you." She said this while blushing with a big smile.

"Hopefully one day you will return these feelings, but I know I will never lose them." She said this as she moved her face closer to Alex.

It was then that she shared a gentle and loving kiss on Alex's lips. It didn't last long, but it affected Raven a lot. Her heart was pumping like crazy, her face felt hot, and her breathing deepened.

"I did it; I actually did it." Raven thought to herself.

Raven looked at Alex once again and said "This was my promise to you, Alex, to always love you, no matter what."

Afterwards, Raven went to sleep next to Alex, who was currently still asleep.

*In the early morning*

Alex suddenly opened his eyes.

"What the hell just happened?" he thought to himself.

Alex had just been kicked out of his own dream by Xymaris while he was having a very passionate time with the goddess, Iris.

However, he soon realized something was different now than before he went to sleep. He felt something heavy on his arm.

He turned his head to the side and saw a very unexpected sight.

It was Raven, wearing her black nightgown, lying on top of Alex's right arm as she cuddled to it.

"When did you get here?" Alex thought to himself.

He had wanted to get up early and train, but he didn't have the heart to disturb that peaceful face. Alex stared at Raven and thought to himself about how beautiful his sister had gotten. Her long black hair flowed freely. Her beauty makes Alex mesmerized every time he sees her.

Alex decided to go back to sleep and not disturb Raven. He didn't dream again, and there was no visit from the goddesses this time.

However, this time, when Alex woke up, Raven was already gone.

Alex got out of bed, put on his training gear, and grabbed his tachi. He quickly left without getting any breakfast and headed into the woods.

After walking for awhile, he finally saw Ghost, who was sharpening his blade with a stone.

"Morning Alex, I almost thought you weren't coming." Ghost said.

"Sorry, I had an unexpected night of sleep, to say the least." Alex tried explaining.

"Girlfriend keep you busy?" Ghost asked.

"Don't have one; I just had a weird dream, that's all." Alex said. "Now what am I learning today?"

"Hm, well, what did that maid girl teach you the other day? I spotted her training you how to fight."

Ghost said.

" She was teaching me the "tells" someone gives when they attack. Tunnel vision, foot positions, stuff like that." Alex explained.

"Good to learn things like that; they may just save your life." Ghost said. "However, things are going to be a little different today."

"What do you mean?" Alex asked.

Ghost stopped sharpening his tachi and stood up and said "Today we will not be fighting, but I will be giving you something important."

"Important?" Alex asked.

"Yes, you could say it is one of the most important things in the world, but it also carries one of the biggest burdens. Now come sit down here." Ghost said as he pointed his finger at a nearby large rock.

Alex started to walk over to the rock and sat down on it. This was entirely new to him.

"I can sense you've killed someone, haven't you? I can smell the stench of it on you." Ghost said.

Alex sighed and said "Yes, I have; some guys tried to attack me and my sister."

"Do you know why they would do such a thing?" Ghost asked.

"Apparently, my brother in name only hired them too." Alex said.

"You will have to deal with the situation soon." Ghost stated.

"Already planning on it. Now you said something about giving me something?" Alex asked.

"Yes, be prepared; this will hurt for a few minutes." Ghost said.

Ghost then put his hand on his chest, and soon an orb that was cackling with the sounds of electricity manifested.

"I am giving you power; this power is called the origin. There are a total of eight origins in the world, each representing various elements: water, fire, earth, wind, light, shadow, ice, and Lightning. I am giving you the one my master gave me, The Origin of Lightning. These origins can amplify the magic powers of said element tenfold. Giving you absolute control over the element." Ghost explained.

"That's a big info dump there." Alex said.

"It's necessary. Now just be quiet and let's get on with it; you might want to bite down on something." Ghost warned.

Alex undid his belt and put it in his mouth. He had seen people do that in movies in his previous life, so he hoped it worked in real life.

"I hereby bestow the Origin of Lightning to the inheritor, Alex Blackwood; I surrender the Origin and its gifts to one who I trust with its protection from those who would use the Origin for evil purposes. I hereby name Alex Blackwood as my successor!" Ghost said as soon as both Ghost and Alex started to glow. However, the glow soon left Ghost and went entirely to Alex.

Alex started to grunt in pain, but he was handling it better than Ghost expected.

"He was the right choice." Ghost thought to himself.

After a few minutes of Alex grunting, he soon felt no pain. Instead, he felt that every aspect of his magic was stronger.

"What just happened, Ghost?" Alex asked.

"You became the new holder of the origin of lightning, giving you full control of it. Test it; here's something simple: change the color of your lightning." Ghost said.

"Change the color?" Alex asked.

"Yes, white was not always my magic's color; originally, I held the basic blue lightning as many other users do. Now imagine a color you'd want and simply use it." Ghost explained.

Alex held out his palm and focused on changing the color of it. He manifested his normal purple lightning, but soon the shade of it turned darker and darker until there was no light left. It was pure black lightning.

"Good job, Alex. Who knew black lightning could be a thing." Ghost said.

Alex may not have been able to see it, but he could tell Ghost was smiling.

"Now Alex, listen carefully; go home. You need to rest now; inheriting an origin causes the body great fatigue. Soon, however, I will give you my final lesson, and your training will officially be complete." Ghost explained.

"If that will be my final lesson, then what will happen to you?" Alex asked.

"Who knows, maybe I'll get rid of the mask and start a farm or something. It'll be retirement life for me as you take up my mantle." Ghost said. "Now hurry and go before you pass out in these woods; I'm too old to carry you back."

"Too old to carry me back, but not too old to whip my ass in training?" Alex asked sarcastically.

"Damn straight, now go." Ghost ordered.

"Yes Master, and Thank you for this gift." Alex said as he left the woods.

As he disappeared, Ghost stared into the woods in the direction Alex went.

"I'm sorry for giving you this burden, but I believe you will be able to handle it, Alex."
