*Slash* *Crackle*
In the middle of the woods, Aex, his mother, and the two maids were simply there until Alex and Kaede started to hear noises coming from the trees. Alex went to investigate, while Kaede stood by to watch over everyone else. She woke up Anna and Eve to get ready to defend themselves if they had to.
Alex started to look around the woods, but he couldn't find what was making those strange noises. But they got louder, and more and more started to be heard.
"What the hell is that?" Alex asked himself. He had never heard such a weird sound before. He continued walking in the direction of the noises when the sound became more and more clear.
*Snarl* *Growl*
Alex had found exactly what was making those horrendous sounds.
Goblins.
"Why is it always goblins?" Alex asked himself.
There was a small group of them—maybe about two dozen—but there was also a hobgoblin with them. He seemed to lead the group since the smaller ones were giving him most of their food.
The group was walking in the direction of the others, so Alex knew he had to get back to them quickly.
Alex didn't know much about the goblins of this world, but if they were anything like they were described in anime from his previous world, he wanted nothing to do with those things.
Alex scrambled back and got there before the goblins came marching through.
"Everyone! We need to get out of here now." Alex yelled out.
While he thought they could take these goblins, he didn't want to take the risk.
"Why? What's out there?" Eve asked.
"There's a small tribe of goblins marching through here." Alex explained as he grabbed his bag.
"G-Goblins?" Anna stuttered.
"Yeah, including a hobgoblin with them, I would rather not deal with them, so we have to go now." Alex said once again.
"Too late." Kaede said.
Alex turned around and saw scouts from the goblin raiding party coming near them. They were small, dark green, and had grotesque yellowish eyes.
"Shit"
Alex pulled out his tachi, and Anna and Kaede got ready for combat with him. Anna pulled out her customized spear, while Kaede brought out her two daggers. Eve, on the other hand, got in the middle of the three of them to supply all of them with mana as they needed it.
Soon the entire group of goblins arrived, each of them staring at the girls.
"Yup, they're those types of goblins...dammit." Alex thought to himself.
He knew he now had one single goal. Do not let any of them near the girls, and in order to do that, he would have to use his origin.
"Listen to me; get behind me now; please trust me on this." Alex said.
The girls nodded and got behind Alex while still preparing to defend themselves.
Soon purple and black lightning started to course through Alex's body; you could see some of it on the outside of his body.
Soon Alex started to move using his ability, increasing his speed.
All the girls could see where his lightning around him and being used against the goblins as they were cut to pieces and burned to a crisp. However, there was another major issue.
The Hobgoblin.
Alex knew it wasn't going to be easy, but he channeled a massive amount of magic into his sword and charged at the creature. When he got close to the hobgoblin, he jumped out, dodging a punch from it in the process as he stabbed the end of his tachi into the hobgoblin's chest. Following that, there was an insane amount of lightning crackling from the sword and the back of the hobgoblin. Soon the hobgoblin fell with a hole in his chest.
"That was easy enough." Alex said.
"Alex? What was that? I didn't teach you any of that." Anna asked.
Oh yeah, she doesn't know about Ghost.
"Well, remember when I said I was training alone? I kind of told a bit of a lie. I actually had a teacher. He had similar magic to me, so he taught me how to use it correctly." Alex explained.
"We are going to talk more about this." Anna said.
"Yeah, I figured."
I wonder what Ghost is up to now.
*Earlier that night*
Two figures started to approach a man camping in the woods. The two figures were armed with specialized swords. One had a long sword with a blue blade, while the other had a giant sword reminiscent of a buster sword.
The man in the woods looked at the two imposing figures. The one with the blue sword had black hair with blue dye in it. The other was a more muscular man with black hair and red eyes like those of a serpent.
"So you finally found where I've been hiding, have you?" the man said.
"It took a lot of work, but we narrowed it down. You're lucky it was us and not Priscilla and Sylvia. They are a bit more sadistic than us. We want to just kill you; they would torture you for information on your comrades, not exactly our style." The red-eyed man said.
"Don't you want to know about the others, I assume that would've been your goal?" the man asked.
"See, we know you and your friends know next to nothing about each other, and we don't like wasting our time." The blue-bladed man said.
"We are nice guys after all; let us introduce ourselves. My name is Alexander, and this here is Asher." The red-eyed man said.
"Asher Beckett, nice to meet you, user of the Origin of Lightning." The blue bladed man said.
"Well, we all know each other now; I think it's time we get started." the man said.
The man then jumped up with his tachi blade and directed his strike at the two other swordsmen.
The man then swung at the two, with both of them dodging. Alexander charged at the man and started swinging his sword in order to overwhelm the old man with pure power, but the man was able to counter him as much as he could. However, Asher snuck up on the man and managed to cut him on the side of his stomach before he managed to retreat back from the two.
"What is your name, old man? Just wondering." Asher said.
"A friend calls me "Ghost" so use that if you must call me something." Ghost said.
"It's a good name, especially after today." Asher said.
The three continued to fight. Blades were making the sound of tinging, blood was drawn, but Ghost was not having an easy time. He no longer had his origin, making his magic less powerful. He had also suffered injuries in the fight; he had many cuts on his body, trying to avoid them hitting any fatal wounds.
"You have barely used your magic, and since you are an origin user, that can only mean one thing: you found a successor and passed it on, haven't you?" Alexander said.
Ghost just smiled.
"Well no matter; we'll kill you, then go after the new holder." Asher said.
Then Alexander started to generate a red aura around him. You could visibly see his aura covering his body. Ghost had a sense of unease just looking at the aura. He knew that this was a very dangerous situation. However, Ghost continued to feel weaker and weaker, almost as if his energy was being sapped out of him.
Ghost fell to one knee and muttered "What's happening...?"
"You see Ghost. As you know, everyone in our group has special abilities. This is Alexander's here. He can swallow up all the aura from around him, increasing his strength and taking away any you had left; sadly, his targets can't have a large amount of aura left for this to work as he needs. That's why we had to fight a bit, to wear you down." Asher explained.
"You said too much." Alexander commented.
"Don't worry about it; he won't be able to tell anyone anyway." Asher said.
Ghost tried to gather any strength he had left to fight, but it was all for nothing. He could barely even stand up.
"Sorry, Ghost, it seems our time together has ended. Asher, he's all yours; he's done." Alexander stated.
"Wow, you're turning down an opportunity for a kill? I'm shocked." Asher said.
Alexander turned in annoyance. "We both get the same reward either way; there isn't a bonus, so why try?"
"Hey, I'm not complaining." Asher said.
"It was a good fight, Ghost, but in the end you lost. Don't worry though; we'll find your successor soon too." Asher said.
Asher then used his sword and stabbed Ghost in the heart before pulling his sword out and walking away.
Ghost was left lying there, the light fading from his eyes.
"I'm sorry, Alex; I couldn't survive long enough to warn you about them. I hope your fate doesn't end like mine. I had a good life, and I will be able to see all those I've lost again, although I will miss you, Alex." He thought to himself.
Soon, it was as if he could see a bright light near him that was just getting brighter and brighter.
"I'll be with you soon...Martha."
