It was the day of the wedding between Oliver Tarren and Raven Blackwood. This wedding was the topic of gossip all over Lapis City, especially after the news came out about the death of Edmund Blackwood.
The whereabouts of Edward, Alex, and Anna Blackwood were unknown to the public. Some thought they were also dead, while there were some rumors that suggested otherwise. Some rumors say another family attacked the family, killing them all; some say it was an inside job. There were many rumors and gossip, but no one knew the truth.
Not even Raven, once she heard that Edmund was dead and her mother and brother were now missing she was worried. However, she relied on the faith of her brother for him to be okay.
The city was filled with celebrations. There were carriages set up for the parade, where many noble families would come to the wedding, and food and drink were being served at stalls. The people of Lapis City had no idea what was coming.
Around noon that day, when the music and cheering on the streets were at their peak, the gates to the Tarren Mansion opened, and three carriages started to leave the mansion.
Out came three carriages, each with decorations of flowers on them. The middle carriage of the convoy had white with blue flowers on the top of the carriage. The carriage with blue flowers represented the married couple's carriage; after all, blue and white did represent the city's flag.
As the three carriages continued down the streets, guards started to clear the main road. Cheers from the civilians continued to support the marriage of the two, and many were happy—and already drunk—cheering for the new noble couple of the city.
*Inside the middle carriage*
"Smile, my beautiful bride, today is our special day after all." Oliver Tarren commented, looking at Raven.
Raven had tried not to show up for the wedding; however, the Tarren family sent their guards to break down her door. Ellen managed to convince Raven to put on the dress as she tried to show her that Raven could talk to her. After all, Ellen was in this exact situation before, forced to marry someone she didn't love simply because her last name had value along with the greed of her family.
Raven agreed reluctantly and put on her dress; however, before stepping in the carriage, she ordered that Ellen come into the carriage with her or she would fight against the guards, as she also displayed her lightning magic.
Not wanting to cause a scene, especially on this day, Duncan Tarren agreed, and Ellen rode with Raven in the carriage.
As Oliver tried complimenting Raven's dress, she gave him the silent treatment. She had no interest in talking to him at all.
"She might just be nervous, Oliver; it's a big day after all." Ellen said.
Ellen wanted to make sure her son didn't lose his temper; after all, he did inherit his fathers...less-than-fortunate traits.
Raven stayed silent as Oliver clicked his tongue.
"You can't be silent forever, bitch; you're stuck with me for a long time starting tonight." Oliver thought to himself.
Oliver wanted nothing more than to put Raven in her place in his mind, but it was the day of the big wedding, and the last thing his family needed was for Raven to have a bruised face during the ceremony, although no one would see what would happen when they went back to the mansion.
As Oliver's mind continued to think twisted thoughts, there was a news broadcast on the local magic orbs around the city. It was very similar to Alex's previous world's television. There was even a "news reporter" giving the play-by-play of the wedding.
"It's almost time." a man said in the crowd with a black hood on.
"I'll tell the others to get into position; are you ready?" Another hooded figure said.
"Yeah, although I may wait for the right timing, you'll know the signal when you hear it." The man said.
"Understood, let's hope we succeed." the other figure said.
"We will; I'll make sure of it." the man said as he started to walk through the crowd following the carriage.
As the carriage continued throughout the city, it stopped in front of a large cathedral. In front of the cathedral was a statue of a man dressed in well-made clothing and flipping a coin. This statue was of the god Lapis. Since this was his city that was named after him, of course he would have a cathedral.
Around the cathedral was a small army of guards, stopping anyone from the crowd from getting anywhere near the doors to the cathedral.
Soon the first and third carriages emptied. In the first was Duncan Tarren, along with the Tarrens youngest son, Randall Tarren. In the third carriage was another noble family; they were cousins of the Tarren family, so they got a carriage just due to that.
After the cheers for them started to end, the middle carriage finally opened its doors.
First came Ellen Tarren, wearing a beautiful blue dress with black heels. While being a mother of two, she still looked young and beautiful, which attracted the attention of many of the male commoners. She heard whistling from the crowd; however, she ignored it and kept walking up to stand next to her husband. Next came the groom himself, Oliver Tarren. He was wearing a well-made white suit with a blue tie, unlike his mother, who ignored the crowd. Oliver played into it, waving at everyone around, making the hearts of the girls swoon and be jealous that they would never get their chance. Oliver would walk up the stairs and stand next to his younger brother while waiting for Raven.
Finally, Raven came out of the carriage. She wore her well-made white dress, which was made to match Oliver's since her dress had a small blue design on the bottom of the dress. Her beauty made the men in the crowd quiet. While Ellen was beautiful, Raven was stunning. Many of the men in the crowd got yelled at or punched by their wives and girlfriends for drooling over Raven.
Raven didn't smile at all as she walked up the stairs with the Tarren Family into the cathedral. Shortly thereafter, as they all took their positions on the stage and the other noble families filled in the pews of the cathedral. The guards and the black-armored knights assigned to escorting Raven took position in order to stop any interference.
Raven refused to look at Oliver, but soon she heard a voice.
"Good Afternoon, ladies and gentlemen of our beloved city."
The priest of the cathedral came out with the book of the divines in his hands and stood in between Raven and Oliver. Soon, all the voices in the cathedral went silent except his own.
"We gather here today to officially celebrate the union of Oliver Tarren and Raven Blackwood in the house of our divines. Each of them are surely smiling on all of us here today as we get to witness this matrimony. Oliver Tarren of our own reputable Tarren Family and Raven Blackwood of the well-respected Blackwood household.
"Now before we proceed, by the right of the divines, there is first the right of objection for anyone who may suggest that these two should not be married. Do we have anyone who wishes to use this right?" The priest said.
The crowd was quiet until one voice from the entrance of the cathedral yelled out.
"I use the right of objection."
Everyone in the cathedral turned around and saw a figure wearing a black hood.
Duncan, very angry at this sudden event, yelled out.
"And who may you be!?"
The man proceeded to remove his hood and show his face, bringing shock to many in the crowd who knew his face and especially to the members of the Tarren family. However, one person in the cathedral, with tears in her eyes, yelled out
"Alex!"
