Chapter 8 - Unspoken secrets

As the first rays of morning light crept through my window, I found myself grappling with a mix of emotions and exhaustion after a sleepless night. Today was a pivotal day – Abi's long-awaited release from the hospital after couple agonising days of her being there. But as relieved as I was for her return, I couldn't shake the weight of another pressing matter that needed to be shared.

I woke up and did my normal morning routine, got ready and went to fetch her from the hospital. I took a taxi there and will take about 20 minutes to arrive.

I and Max haven't talked for the past couple days. When he left for work at the hospital. The events that occurred between me and him kept roaming around my head. I needed answers. I had questions. I consumed the last couple days taking care of Abi and making sure she becomes healthy again.

As time fly by I arrived at the hospital on time.

"Hey Abi, how's everything? Are you ready to go back home?" I asked cheerfully.

"Yes! I am, staying at the hospital is very tiring." She said.

"Do you want to go to an amusement park before going home?" I asked. I wanted to enjoy myself with her and spend some time together far off the worries and troubles. Luckily she said yes.

15 minutes later…

As we stepped through the entrance, the park came alive with vibrant colours and melodies. The sound of cheerful carnival music filled the air, and the smell of popcorn and cotton candy wafted around us. We couldn't wait to begin our adventure.

Our first stop was the Wild Twister, a rollercoaster renowned for its twists and turns that left our hearts pounding in our chests. With butterflies in our stomachs, we hopped into the front row seats, feeling the cool breeze as the coaster climbed to its peak. Adrenaline surged as we plummeted down steep drops, hair flying wildly, and the world around us became a blur of lacquers. We cheered with exhilaration, sharing high-fives at the end of the ride, thrilled to have started the day with such a rush.

Eager for more, we made our way to the Sky Soarer, a swing ride that lifted us high above the park. As we swung back and forth, we felt a sense of freedom, taking in the breathtaking view from the skies.

Our laughter echoed through the air, and we marvelled at the world below, feeling like carefree kids.

To cool off, we ventured into the water park section, laughing as we raced down water slides and splashed in the wave pool. The refreshing water brought relief from the summer heat, and we couldn't help but embrace the childlike joy of playing in the water.

After working up an appetite, we strolled through the vibrant food stalls, their aromas tempting our taste buds. We decided to try a variety of treats, from cotton candy that melted in our mouths to tangy lemonade that refreshed us instantly.

But the ultimate indulgence was the massive funnel cake we shared, topped with scoops of ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. It was pure bliss, and we grinned like mischievous kids with each sweet, delectable bite.

As the day wore on, we dared to take on the Haunted Mansion, a spooky ride that sent shivers down our spines. We clung to each other, alternating between shrieks and laughter as we encountered ghostly figures and surprises. It was all in good fun, and we couldn't stop talking about the spooky thrills as we exited the ride.

As evening approached, the park transformed into a magical wonderland. Fairy lights twinkled, and multicoloured lanterns adorned every corner, creating an enchanting ambience. We wandered into the Enchanted Garden, where lush flowers and glowing butterflies surrounded us. The serenity of the setting contrasted with the bustling excitement of the day, and we found a moment of tranquillity, lost in each other's company.

We decided to take a leisurely ride on the Enchanted Carousel, hopping onto majestic horses that bobbed up and down gracefully. The gentle music played, and Abi laughed merrily, reminiscing about her childhood carousel rides. I couldn't help but smile, realising how these simple moments brought so much joy.

As dusk settled, we ventured to the Ferris wheel, where the view was even more breathtaking at night. The city lights sparkled like stars below us, and we whispered sweet nothings to each other as we swayed gently in the air.

The amusement park's grand finale was a stunning light display, illuminating the night with an array of colours dancing to the rhythm of the music. Abi and I danced along with the illuminated fountains, our laughter blending with the melodies. The magical spectacle was the perfect ending to our day of adventure and love.

As we made our way back home, exhaustion settled in, but our hearts were overflowing with happiness and cherished memories. We held hands, knowing that this day would forever be etched in our hearts as one filled with fun, laughter, and the pure joy of being together.

"I had so much fun today, Thanks, Lana." She said. "I will forever remember this day."

"Yes me too. I had so much fun today that I never experienced in my life". I said.

She remarked, her lips curling into a joyful manifestation.

As I waited for the taxi I had called, a faint silhouette caught my attention from afar in the dimly lit surroundings. It appeared as though someone was observing us, trailing our movements in the shadows. As I strained to see more clearly, the figure emerged from the darkness, revealing itself to be Liam.

With a friendly wave, I beckoned him to join us. "Liam, what brings you here?" I inquired, trying to mask the mix of surprise and suspicion in my voice. "Are you following me?" I couldn't help but ask, my emotions getting the better of me.

"No, not at all." Liam replied earnestly. "It's just that the Boss is genuinely concerned about you. He needs to talk to you urgently." His words were delivered with a convincing tone, but I found myself growing more puzzled and perturbed by the minute. "if your Boss truly needed to speak with me, why hadn't he reached out directly?" I asked back.

"Why couldn't he come himself?" I retorted, my frustration evident. For the past couple days, I had been left in the dark without any contact, and the lack of communication only intensified my annoyance.

Abi chimed in, curious about the sudden appearance of this stranger. "Hello, Mr sir. I'm here too," she introduced herself, her presence providing me with some comfort in this perplexing situation. "Lana, who's this?" she inquired, her gaze inquisitive.

"Oh, um, he's a friend of a friend of mine," I replied, attempting to downplay the significance of Liam's presence. "This is Liam, and Liam, meet Abigail, my best friend," I emphasised, hoping to dispel any doubts.

Liam extended a cordial greeting towards Abi, but there was an unspoken tension lingering in the air, leaving me wondering what his true intentions were.

Suddenly Max appears out of nowhere. Clearing his throat twice letting us be aware of his presence.

"Max, what are you doing here?" I asked.

"There's something important I need to talk to you about. Right now!" Max insisted.

He was looking deep into my eyes without blinking. I think I should follow him and listen to what he needs to say since I think it does seem important.

I turned to Abi and said "I need to go with him right now. I promise to make it up to you soon. I will also introduce you two. Wait for me at home." I said. " Also if anything pops up make sure to inform me right away and if anyone comes looking for me deny that you know of me or anything about me, I will explain everything later." I added before leaving with Max.

Abi nodded and watched me leave with Max. I could see the confusion in her eyes but she didn't ask any questions. I knew I had to explain my sudden departure and the situation I was in, but I just had to trust her for now.
