Chapter 3 - 02

FAILURE

The whispers of the Sylveris attacking during the day haunted me. It was a violation of the norms, after all, they usually hid in the nighttime shadows. Questions swirled in my mind: what could be happening for them to defy the darkness? Curiosity consumed me, but there was something more urgent calling me.

Haru, my long-time friend, had summoned me abruptly, claiming to have something serious to tell me. His words echoed in my head as I wandered down a street filled with majestic trees. Their branches intertwined, creating a lush and enchanting canopy. The sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating a spectacle of dancing shadows on the ground. It was a place that exuded serenity, a refuge from the turmoil of the world.

But then, my attention was diverted to a lonely little girl. Her frightened expression and dull eyes revealed the fear that dominated her. I couldn't resist the curiosity that gleamed in my eyes, and leaving Haru in the background, I approached her. However, something sinister was outlined behind the girl. It wasn't a human being, but a Sylveris.

"GIRL, RUN!" The words came out in a desperate cry from my lips. I wanted her to move, to escape the imminent danger. But she remained frozen, imprisoned by fear. And somehow, I found myself in the same situation. My muscles felt petrified, unable to respond to the commands of my brain.

In an effort to break the paralyzing spell, I slapped myself in the face. The sharp pain brought me back to reality, igniting a flame of courage within me. I couldn't allow that abomination to touch that innocent child.

In a swift motion, I unleashed my left leg in a powerful kick, hitting the Sylveris squarely. It was pushed back, creating a temporary breach between us. But there was no time for hesitation.

My eyes met the girl's, and feelings of concern and bewilderment flooded me. How had all of this happened? What led to this sequence of distressing events? But there was no time for reflection. With a firm voice, I ordered the girl to flee and promised to hold off the Sylveris for as long as possible.

In response, she nodded, understanding the only chance of survival left to her. With an unexpected determination, the girl sprinted toward safety, leaving me alone facing that cursed creature.

As the Sylveris recovered from the impact, I stood before it. My gaze carried a fierce determination, a silent promise to confront the darkness it represented. I knew the battle ahead wouldn't be easy, but I was ready to fight until the end. In this place of beauty and danger, under the radiant sun and the threatening shadow, I faced my destiny with courage, willing to protect the innocence that still shone in the world.

I looked back and saw that the little girl had managed to escape. A sigh of relief escaped my lips, for now, I could face the Sylveris without anyone to hinder me. As I looked at the ground, I saw an iron bar lying there and cautiously picked it up. My eyes fixed on it, and its disturbing gaze seemed to pierce my soul. Without warning, it lunged toward me with abnormal speed, launching itself like a bloodthirsty shadow.

Our movements entwined in a deadly dance, the sound of colliding metal echoing in the air. The Sylveris was a creature of epic proportions, with sinewy muscles and eyes gleaming like embers. Its strikes were powerful and swift, demanding all of my skill and dexterity to dodge and counterattack. Every move I made was calculated, every blow delivered with lethal precision.

During the battle, I carefully observed the Sylveris's strategies. Although powerful, its arrogance led it to leave openings in its defense. I seized those moments of carelessness and attacked with ferocity, striking where it hurt the most. Our fight unfolded in a tense balance, a test of strength and intelligence.

However, there came a moment when I decided it was time to take the battle seriously. A primal instinct took over me, and hatred grew in my heart. Adrenaline roared in my ears as I channeled all my energy and determination into each blow. The Sylveris noticed the change in my attitude, and its expression transformed into a mixture of surprise and fear.

With a quick and precise movement, I delivered a devastating final blow. The iron bar cut through the air and found its target, plunging deep into the Sylveris's chest. A sharp scream tore through the silence, echoing throughout the surroundings. The creature staggered backward, its body wounded and bleeding. Its strength diminished rapidly, and it fell to its knees, defeated.

Breathing heavily, I watched the Sylveris's body on the ground. The feeling of victory mixed with the pain on my face. As I touched my face with my hand, I felt the stinging of the wound, realizing that I was bleeding. "It's been a while since anyone hurt me like this before," I murmured to myself, a mixture of adrenaline coursing through my body.

However, my mind soon turned to the search for the little girl. After all, she had escaped the Sylveris, but I hadn't been able to find her. An uncertain hope pulsed in my chest as I imagined her being safe. For a brief moment, I felt content with that possibility, a spark of relief amidst the darkness that surrounded us.

Yet, as I walked further ahead, I came across a sight that took my breath away. A child's body lay sprawled between the walls, mutilated and disfigured. Her two arms had been torn off, and her head was grotesquely smashed. Despite the carnage, I recognized the clothing, and the truth descended upon me like an avalanche.
