Chapter 26 - Chapter Twenty-Five: Shadows of the Past

The following days marked a tentative beginning for Sanchez as a father. Mia and Adrian grew more comfortable around him, their laughter filling the once-quiet house as they introduced Sanchez to their world. He learned their favorite games, marveled at Adrian's budding love for drawing, and cheered for Mia's endless energy and curiosity. Each moment made Sanchez more determined to protect this newfound happiness.

But the shadows of the past still loomed. Pedro remained an ever-present threat, his ambition unchecked. Sanchez knew his uncle was not one to give up easily, and Loiz's departure had only emboldened him. The events of the interrupted wedding had exposed cracks in Sanchez's defenses—cracks Pedro and his associates would undoubtedly exploit.

---

One evening, as the children played in the garden with Susan, Sanchez sat in his study reviewing company documents. Hedro, his trusted confidant, entered with a grim expression.

"We've uncovered more about Pedro's activities," Hedro said, setting a file on the desk.

Sanchez opened the file, his eyes narrowing as he scanned its contents. "What is this?" he asked, his voice cold.

Hedro pointed to a section of the report. "Pedro has been siphoning money from subsidiary accounts. He's also been meeting with Pierre's associates, despite Pierre's arrest."

Sanchez's fist clenched. "So, he's still playing his games. He doesn't realize he's already lost."

Hedro hesitated. "Pedro is more dangerous than ever, Sanchez. He knows the family is your weakness now—Susan and the children. He'll come after them."

Sanchez's jaw tightened. The thought of Pedro targeting his family was unbearable. "Then we need to strike first," he said, his voice resolute. "I want every move he makes tracked. Every ally he has, every deal he's struck—I want it all exposed."

"I've already started," Hedro said. "But Pedro isn't acting alone. He's brought in new players, and they're not easy to trace."

"Then we'll make them come to us," Sanchez replied.

---

That night, as Sanchez sat in the living room, Susan joined him, sensing his tension. "What's wrong?" she asked, sitting beside him.

Sanchez hesitated, debating how much to share. "Pedro is making moves again. He's more dangerous than ever, and I'm afraid he'll target you and the children."

Susan's face paled, but she nodded firmly. "We won't let him. We've been through too much to let him tear us apart."

Sanchez reached for her hand, his grip firm. "I won't let him hurt you, Susan. Or the children. I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."

Susan looked into his eyes, her resolve matching his. "We'll face him together."

---

As the days passed, Sanchez began to implement security measures around the estate. Hedro worked tirelessly to uncover Pedro's network, and Sanchez prepared for the inevitable confrontation. But Pedro was cunning, and his next move would catch them all off guard.

One afternoon, Susan received an unexpected call. The voice on the other end was chillingly familiar.

"Hello, Susan," Pedro said, his tone smooth yet menacing.

Her breath caught. "What do you want, Pedro?"

Pedro chuckled. "Oh, nothing much. Just a little chat. You see, my dear nephew seems to think he can outmaneuver me, but he forgets—I always win."

Susan's grip on the phone tightened. "You'll never win, Pedro. Sanchez won't let you."

Pedro's voice dropped, his tone icy. "Ah, but I don't need to win outright. I just need to take away the things he values most. Tell Sanchez to watch his back... and yours."

The line went dead.

Susan stood frozen, the weight of Pedro's threat sinking in. She knew this was only the beginning of a much darker game.

---

When Susan told Sanchez about the call, his fury was palpable. "He's crossed a line," Sanchez growled, pacing the room. "Threatening you is one thing, but involving the children? That's unforgivable."

"We have to be careful," Susan urged. "Pedro thrives on chaos. He wants to provoke you."

Sanchez stopped pacing and looked at her, his eyes blazing with determination. "Then we'll give him chaos of our own. Pedro thinks he knows how to play this game, but he doesn't realize he's already lost."

As night fell, Sanchez stood by the window, staring out at the darkened estate. His family was his everything now, and he would go to any lengths to protect them.

Pedro's threats were real, but so was Sanchez's resolve. The battle had begun, and Sanchez was ready to fight—for his family, for their future, and for the legacy that no one, not even Pedro, could take away.
