Chapter 27 - Chapter Twenty-Six: Pedro’s First Strike

The morning air was crisp and quiet, a deceptive calm over the Cruz estate. Sanchez was in his office reviewing security updates with Hedro, while Susan prepared breakfast with the children. The family had begun to settle into a fragile peace, though Pedro's threat hung over them like a storm cloud.

As the children played in the garden, Susan's laughter echoed softly through the hallways. For a moment, Sanchez allowed himself to feel hopeful. But the brief reprieve was shattered when Hedro rushed into the room, his face pale and grim.

"Sanchez," Hedro said, his voice tight, "we have a situation."

Sanchez's stomach tightened. "What is it?"

"There's been a breach," Hedro said, handing him a tablet. On the screen were live security feeds showing armed men near the outer perimeter of the estate.

Sanchez's jaw clenched. "Pedro," he muttered.

Hedro nodded. "It's his style—direct and calculated. He's testing your defenses."

"Not just testing," Sanchez said, his voice cold. "He's sending a message."

---

Sanchez immediately called for heightened security. Guards were dispatched to secure the estate, and Susan was ushered inside with the children. She clutched Mia and Adrian tightly, her heart racing as she realized the danger had arrived at their doorstep.

"What's happening?" Susan demanded as Sanchez entered the room.

"Pedro's making his move," Sanchez said, his voice firm but reassuring. "He sent men to the perimeter. They haven't breached it yet, but we're not taking any chances."

Susan's eyes widened. "The children—"

"They'll be safe," Sanchez interrupted, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I promise you, Susan. I'll protect them, no matter what."

---

Outside, the estate's guards confronted the intruders. A tense standoff ensued, with Pedro's men retreating after realizing they were outnumbered. But the message was clear—Pedro was willing to escalate, and this was only the beginning.

When the situation was under control, Hedro returned to Sanchez. "They left behind a package," he said, setting a small box on the desk.

Sanchez opened it carefully, his eyes narrowing at its contents. Inside was a simple note, written in Pedro's elegant handwriting:

"Family is a weakness, dear nephew. Remember that before it destroys you."

---

That evening, Sanchez gathered Susan and the children in the living room. The house felt different now, as if Pedro's presence had tainted its once-welcoming atmosphere.

"We need to be vigilant," Sanchez said, addressing Susan. "Pedro won't stop until he gets what he wants."

Susan's expression was resolute. "What does he want, Sanchez? The company? You gone? What's his endgame?"

"Power," Sanchez replied. "And revenge. He believes he's entitled to the Cruz legacy, and he'll do anything to take it."

Susan's eyes softened. "You can't fight him alone."

"I won't be alone," Sanchez said, his gaze shifting to the children playing nearby. "I have you, and I have something worth fighting for. That's more than Pedro will ever have."

---

Later that night, as Susan tucked the children into bed, Sanchez stood by the window of their bedroom, staring out into the darkness. Hedro had stationed additional guards, and the estate was on high alert, but Sanchez knew Pedro wouldn't stop until he was defeated completely.

Susan joined him, her hand slipping into his. "Are you okay?" she asked gently.

"No," Sanchez admitted, his voice low. "But I will be. Pedro thinks he can break us, but he doesn't understand what he's up against."

Susan rested her head against his shoulder. "We'll get through this together. He may have power, but he doesn't have what we.
