Chapter 10 - The Perfect Reward

"That went well, I almost thought you wouldn't kill him back there," Enzo said on their way back, it was still in the wee hours of the morning.

"You seem to think that I've lost my touch, besides he talked too much for a man. I prefer actions to talking. Get some rest, it's a long ride home" Luca said and relaxed his back on the car with his eyes closed.

Enzo sighed and looked out the window. He was a little bit angry that he didn't get to have any girl to himself tonight.

They had shot Russo with a silencer so they had to leave quickly before someone noticed what went down.

The next time Enzo opened his eyes, the car was driving into the compound and the sun was already up in the sky. He looked by his side and saw Luca awake, going through some stuff on his tablet.

"Finally awake huh," Luca said and closed the tablet "It's good you rested, we have work to do at the office."

Enzo groaned at this "What work again? Let me sleep some more before I go to the office. I'm not a workaholic like you."

Luca ignored his statement and continued "We need to close the deal with Mr. Lee, so you better show up at work. The director can't be absent in meetings like that. Your signature is also needed on the papers."

Enzo looked like he wanted to cry. He hated paperwork and the long talks that go on and on in meetings.

"Fine" he muttered, "But I'm having the remaining day off after the meeting. I'm jetlagged, so I need absolute rest."

"Fine by me," Luca said with a soft chuckle. He knew how much Enzo hated paperwork, but he can't drop him because he was so smart when it comes to business.

The car came to a stop at the entrance and they both made their way to the house. Immediately they got inside, Enzo took off to his room.

Luca was about to go to his study when Alma approached him.

"Welcome back sir, young miss has been waiting for you. I had told her you were on your way back from a business trip and it would take some time for you to get back but she insisted on waiting."

Luca cocked his head to one side wondering why Silver was at his place this early.

"Where is she?" He asked handing his coat to Alma.

"I told her she could wait in your study." Luca nodded at this and took the staircase.

He got to his study and took a deep breath before he opened the door. When he stepped inside, he had to blink for some minutes for his eyes to adjust to the brightness of the room.

"You're here," Silver said the moment she noticed he stepped into the room.

'He looks gorgeous, even in the morning.' She thought.

She saw that he was still speechless at the sight of the room "I hope you don't mind, the room was too dark so I opened the blinds. Hope I didn't do anything bad, you seem quite dazed."

Luca blinked his eyes and shook his head "No, it's fine. I just can't remember when last the room was as bright as this."

The study room was his haven. It was his Father's study room before he died. It was the only room he didn't renovate in the whole house because that's where most of his fun memories of his Father were. After his Father's death, he never opened the blinds again. He preferred working in the dark.

"So to what do I owe this visit? It's still early in the morning." He took a seat and observed the room, she didn't just open the blinds but she also rearranged a few things.

"Ahh... I came to return this to you" She brought out his credit card from her bag and handed it to him. She had left it on the table but it seemed like Enzo had slipped it into her bag.

"Also, I came to break the news to you in person. I've agreed to marry you, but before then, I have a question." Luca nodded slightly giving her the go-ahead to ask her question.

"Why do you want to get married to me? From what my Father told me, you were the one who approached him for my hand in marriage. We don't even know each other from Adam, so I want to know why you are bent on marrying me. With your looks you can get any girl that you want, so why me?"

Silver needed to know the reason why this mysterious man showed up in her life to turn it upside down.

"Because you look like the perfect reward," Luca said without batting an eye.

"I look like the perfect reward? What the hell does that mean?" She was having a hard time understanding this man. Who gets married to someone because she looks like a reward?

"Well, your Father was struggling with debts so I decided to be a good person and help out. You know when people do good deeds, they are rewarded for it. And you just looked like the perfect reward for my good deed."

Silver opened her mouth in shock, she was left speechless. She tried coming up with a reply but she couldn't.

"If that's all you wanted to say, you should get going. I believe you need to go to school now." He checked the watch on his wrist.

"I can drop you off on my way, I'll soon be heading to the office."

Silver let out a few fits of giggles before she started laughing hysterically. She laughed so hard that water started coming out of her eyes.

Luca just looked at her as she laughed out loud. He wondered if he had unknowingly cracked a joke because he didn't know what was so funny for her to be laughing this much. When she was done, she wiped away the tears.

"You don't have to do that, I drove here. Thanks for answering my question, you've helped me know my stance in this marriage."

"You might think you've gotten the perfect reward but let me inform you beforehand, I'm not going to be your trophy wife who sits at home all day waiting for her husband who goes to work. Don't expect much from me."

She smiled at him and stood up from the chair dusting her clothes "It was nice talking to you Mr. Corleonesi. Looking forward to our married life." She said and left him in the study room.
