I was downstairs scrubbing the floors, when I heard someone banging endlessly on the front door.
Who on earth could that be?
If the person went on like this, they just might bring the door down.
Now who could I get to see to the door? Not to lie, I was terrified.
Tyler and Logan were out with their friends, and Cameron, well let's just leave it at that.
The rest of the maids were in the kitchen doing their chores, I couldn't disturb them.
Moving quietly to the door, I turned the lock, pulling the door open.
A sight was left for my eyes to behold.
Stood right at the doorstep were two police officers, arms holding on to Ashley, while she squirmed under their grip.
My eyes at once took to her wrists, realising she was handcuffed.
"Good afternoon, young lady" One of the men uttered to me, eyes focused on my figure.
"Good afternoon, sir" I responded, pushing myself outside so I could come face to him.
"Do you know this girl?" he questioned.
"Yes"
"Good" he called.
"Who are you to her?"
My gaze turned to Ashley, noticing as she shook her head slowly, her lips mouthing the word 'Sister'
She wanted me to tell them that I was her sister.
I swallowed hard, already intimidated at the boring stares of the officers.
"I am....I'm her sister" I finally said.
One of the men squinted at me, eyes accessing my figure, his expression told me he didn't believe a word of what I said.
"Well, we would like to talk to her parents" The man spoke.
Ashley shook her head yet again, staring on at me, passing a message.
"Sir her parents...... I mean our parents, left for a business trip. And they haven't returned"
I noticed a smile crawling up the lips of Ashley, as she nodded her head in approval.
The officer them turned to me, letting out a sigh.
"well, who's responsible for her, since your parents aren't around at the moment?"
"That would be me" I responded immediately.
"How old are you?" he asked.
"Eighteen" I lied.
The officer took a in a deep breath, lips pursing.
"Look, I know you're lying" He began.
"But that's not the issue here" He added
"We found her and some students, partying at an abandoned shop, just down the street. They were doing illegal things, which if she was old enough, she would have been detained or taken into police custody"
"We will be releasing her now" He uttered, unlocking the cuffs binding her hands.
"But the next time we find her engaging in any thing illegal, drinking, the police won't hesitate to arrest her for real" he uttered to me.
Giving him a weak smile, I thanked him at once, promising that my 'sister' would learn her mistakes.
The officers soon got into their car, driving away from the mansion.
The instant the men were out of sight, and Ashley and I were in the living room, she turned to me, eyes peering into mine.
"Thank you" She whispered, averting her gaze away.
"Whatever happens, do not tell mom and dad about this. I'll be in much trouble, if they find out" her voice croaked while she spoke.
Mr and Mrs Williams needed to know that there was an encounter with the police. Would it be wise for me not to tell them?
"Please, Natalie" She added, moving closer to my figure.
"It's Nia" I uttered to her with a weak smile.
"Oh, I'm sorry" She spoke at once.
"It's alright, I won't tell them" I assured her.
A light squeal left her lips, as she hugged me so tight, I struggled to breathe.
"Thank you so much" She called.
"By the way, are you eighteen?"
"No"
"I'll be seventeen in a few months" I responded.
"Really?"
"I'll also be turning seventeen soon" She exclaimed, with a smile lingering on her lips
She remained silent, just staring on at me. And right after a long pause, she spoke.
"Thank you so much, Nia" This time, I heard the sincerity in her words.
She moved forward, embracing me. It wasn't killing nor squeezing, it was just a warm hug.
A nice, warm hug.
She flashed a smile once more at me, turning around, and and then proceeding out of the living room.
