These torments keep me from falling asleep. The Nights are the worse, the voices keep ranting, my head doesn't stop hurting. I can't sleep, or do anything else.
(soft knocks on the door)
"Freya. Freya, are you there?"
As these torments continue, a still, familiar voice gets in the way. It's my mom.
"Mom? Come in mom. I have been expecting you"
(Rebecca walks in leisurely, holding some blankets with her, and a headphone)
"You're still awake"
(Freya sits upright on her unmade bed)
"Look at you sleeping on a bed that isn't even made, don't you have some bedsheets with you?"
"I wish those were my problems now mom. I can't sleep"
(Rebecca sits beside her. She places her soft palms on Freya's forehead, trying to examine her)
"Oh darling. I brought some things that might help. Here."
(Rebecca hands over the blankets and headphones to Freya)
"What are these for?" Freya ridiculously asked.
"Blankets against the cold, and headphones for music. I made research, and found out that, music gets to the deepest parts of the mind, even where words can't reach. Perhaps, the music in here would confuse your demons, or something I dunno"
"Confuse my demons?" Freya chuckled.
(Oh my god. She laughed. Freya haven't giggled for a while now) Rebecca thought, feeling grateful.
"Well, I dunno. Maybe the music would distract you a bit, and help you get over all these even"
(Rebecca searches for bedsheets)
"On your feet, young adult!" she commands sarcastically.
(Freya gets out of bed letting Rebecca do her thing)
"There you go. Now plug in your headphones, and cover that beautiful body of yours with these blankets"
(Freya languorously does as her mom advised)
"Good night Freya"
"No, wait. A little bit please, at least, until I fall asleep" Freya requested.
Freya closed her eyes, listening to the music. It creeped like a crawling creature into her mind. She could hear everything clearly - the lyrics, even when it was rap. Every single motherfucking letter she was able to understand.
Smile found its way to Freya's cheeks, she felt it. Hope!
"I like this song - Hope. It's amazing"
(Her mom fell asleep, and woke back up at intervals. Luckily she was awake when Freya uttered those words)
"You like NF? Of course you do" said Rebecca, yawning widely.
"Chill. Nathan Feuerstein, the Michigan artiste sang this. I knew his voice was familiar"
"Yeah, he did"
"Fuck mom. I really do love this song. It's giving me the chills"
"Can I go to my room now?" requested Rebecca, as her eyes starts to bail on her.
"Sure you can. Thanks mom. I love you"
Just as Rebecca hurriedly stands to her feet, making way to the door, Freya lets out a sentence, in a voice that signaled pure fear.
"Mom, they are here. Don't leave me"
(Rebecca rushes back)
"Who are they sweetie? What are you talking about?"
"The monsters. They heard me talking about Nathan Feuerstein, they perceived how happy I was feeling mom. They are here, under the bed"
(Rebecca slowly, gently checks under the bed)
"There is nothing here sweetie. No monsters. Go back to sleep sweetie"
"I can't mom. They keep talking, their words are penetrating deep into my skin, it's disturbing mom. I'm terrified. This is too much. I'm just 18 mom. Just 18"
(Rebecca sees that she can't leave her all by herself, so she lies on the bed with Freya, right next to her)
"It's okay sweetie. There are no monsters. Continue with your songs" Rebecca falls asleep.
(Great. My mom is asleep. Only me left to face my demons. The voices decided to let me go for a sec, inviting these sick monsters to torment me right under my bed)
"Stop. Stop! You're hurting me! I'm trying to listen to some music here. Shit, my head hurts. Stop talking, stop whatever sick discussions y'all are making. I'm sick of these. Stop, please! My mom says you're not real, but I can hear you loud and clear. Let me be you godforsaken monsters!" groaned Freya, as she covers her head with her blankets.
***********
It was a tough night for Freya as always. The night was twice as long in Freya's mind, and she had to put up with all the torments it brought, getting only little sleep.
The sun, in its elegance, rose, giving that 'bright day' feeling in Michigan.
The birds chirped happily, singling melodious songs as they flied across the sky.
The Lake Michigan was still as beautiful as ever, shining brightly, due to the effect of the sun.
Freya, however, wasn't at her best mood.
(She taps her mom beside her, informing her of the task ahead)
"Oh, yeah. Yeah, I should. We should..." Rebecca struggles to wake up.
"Mom!" Freya yells.
"Okay fine! Take a shower then"
(Freya sighs)
"Mom, you know I can't take a shower all by myself"
(Rebecca almost loses it)
"Of course you can. You're 18"
"The demons are in the bathroom"
"What demons? Oh come on. Not this again!" complained Rebecca.
"It's fine. I would do it myself. I'm sick of being a burden to y'all anyway"
Freya struggles to get up. She sluggishly take her clothes off, wraping her chest with a towel, and getting her ass to the bathroom.
Rebecca, on the other hand, goes to her room, to have a shower, and do all she needed to do, before they would get going.
"Three things cannot long be hidden - the sun, the moon, the truth. Three things cannot long be hidden - the sun, the moon, the truth. Three things..." Freya whispers her favorite sentence as she does all she needs to do in the toilet, which helps calm her down, whenever the torments were too much.
***************
The atmosphere reeks of scented candles, and burnt woods. The floor was tiled in all areas, and the windows was covered with colourful curtains.
Freya was placed in a wooden bed, not comfy at all, but well, she made no complains.
Candles were lit around Freya, as she lied peacefully on the bed. Her mom stood there and watched, hoping that this would help Freya get past whatever the hell she's dealing with.
A man, wearing a long white robe, having a chain across his neck which had the symbol of a cross on it, walked around the whole place, uttering words unknown to all except him.
The man's white skin had this unusual radiance, because of the sacrifices he makes on himself and on behalf of others who come to him for help.
People claimed he was powerful, and that he also helped those who had demons in them, for money of course. Also, he was nicknamed the Priest in the whole of Michigan.
The priest walks to Freya, who felt at ease. No torments, no yelling, no shit.
He dips his hands in a plate filled with red wine, and places both hands on Freya - one on her chest, and the other on her forehead.
Rebecca feels alarmed, seeing the priest place his hands on her daughter's chest coz she knew he could feel her plumpy breasts, but lets him do his thing.
"Freya has a very ancient demon inside of her. So ancient that even I, don't know its name. I can feel the demon inside of you Freya. It's main domain is in your mind. It has taken over your entire mind, and is making you see and hear those things you complained about. But do not worry. He gets out today"
(Rebecca smiles, feeling like this is actually going to end Freya's torments)
"Shripa shalam migos riepalali" the priest utters strangely.
"Freya. I'm sending you to the demon's world. Face your demon, and end him once and for all"
"Wait what? She can't go in there all by herself. You're going to get her killed!" Rebecca protests.
"Relax Rebecca. I'm with her. I will guide her. Nothing will happen to her. She's safe. Go, Freya!"
