"Were you the one who saved me?" I find myself repeating my words, asking my question again because he's just staring out the window with that placid yet angered look.
"Why," he finally responds, slowly returning his gaze to me, "did you go to the roof with them when you knew you had no powers to protect yourself? That was foolish."
What? Foolish? Is he talking to me? I can suddenly feel air entering my mouth, and I realize his words just forced my lips to open wide with utter surprise. Did he just call me foolish? Me? The one who almost died? Is he scolding me right now? When I'm the one who almost lost my life?
"I mean, you are just an ordinary being. You have no magic, no inner gifts, no powers, no wings, no abilities, you have nothing!" Ouch! That stings. It hit right in my chest. Why does it hurt this much to hear his blatant words?
