"World 599, it is time." My heart skipped in my chest as I heard the voice. I heard the same echo from the other end of the phone too. And then I was sure. It was a worldwide broadcast. Mom and the boys were listening to it too.
The sky brightened up again, and the evil man came into view.
"It is time." I could feel my legs start to shake all over again, my hold on the phone became tighter. So tight that my palm had turned pale. The anger that was burning inside of me was greater than anything I'd felt before. I wanted nothing more but to gouge out his eyes.
"Listen to me Kiva, Skye. Both of you listen to me clearly. We have no idea where those portals will be opening, but it is our only chance of survival. I want you both to do all you can to make it into those portals! Do you understand me?" Mom instructed, but my entire attention was on the man in the sky.
The people had begun to rise to their feet, clearly ready to fight for their lives.
"Do you understand me Kiva!"
"I will kill that bastard!" I muttered to myself in a deep dark voice.
"Listen to me Kiva, no, Skye! Skye, are you there?"
"I'm here Alice." Skye answered, forcefully collecting the phone from me.
"Skye, you know how Kiva can be. Please Skye, do whatever you must to drag her into that portal with you. We don't know what will be behind those portals, we don't know what awaits us there, but as long as there is life there is always hope. So you both must survive. You must make it through that portal at all costs. Do you understand me?"
"Y_ you? What about you and the boys, and Kira?"
"I'll make sure Kyle and Karl make it into the portals. I'll make sure of it. I'll find Kira, so don't worry. Just worry about yourselves. You're both strong young women, I know you can both survive this, so make sure you do. Do you understand me, Skye?"
I felt Skye's hand wrap around my own that was clenched in a fist as my eyes were still fixated on the sky. She shook my hand, forcing me to look at her. And as I did, a tear escaped my eye.
"And now, His Majesty, King Leonis." The man in the sky said as he turned to the side and bowed. He slowly disappeared from our sights as he did so, and in a slower pace, another figure came into view.
At once, I could tell that this man, and that Laurius, were brothers. For they looked like the mirror reflection of the other. Only this one, this one seemed to have the sun in his eyes, for they shined brighter than his brothers. So bright that they were almost blinding.
"Weakness is a sin." His voice came out, it wasn't as deep as his brother's. In fact it wasn't deep. But it was calm, and strong and it clearly carried power.
"A sin that this world is guilty of. And I am… your salvation." As he said those words, the warplanes that had disappeared were now coming into view again, accompanied by those mighty dragons once again. But this time, this time they seemed to have multiplied in the sky.
"Yes mum, we understand." I finally replied, and Skye nodded. "Let's all meet on the other side."
"Yeah, let's do just that."
"May the strongest and vilest of you live." Were his last words.
"I love you girls, you know that."
"I didn't think I'd ever have to say this out loud, but I love you sis. And Skye, I'm not obsessed with you like Karl, but I do love you like a sister you know that."
"Yeah sis, don't lose your head or any part of your body. And Skye, I'll always love you, so if you have to push Kiva to save yourself, I wouldn't mind." Karl joked, and he gave us all one last reason to laugh.
We needed that laugh, because the previous blasts were nothing compared to what we were about to face.
