Chapter 3 - Tutorial (2)

I slashed to the side, the long sword that I was given may have been of shit quality but it would do for now.

The creatures that assaulted me were thrown back by the force of the blow. It seemed as if they liked to bunch together for an attack. It was the only saving grace for me. Though it came at the drawback of the enhanced durability they get when in contact with each other.

Before I could, with a single hand, cut the head of the creatures with ease but now even with the direct hit that I had just delivered it only pushed them back.

"Tch" I spit into the ground, the spit that had gathered from the constant act of dodging and attacking had accumulated.

"Fuck" I ground out, the enemies dagger reaching towards my eye. I ducked but the dagger still was fast enough to make a cut at my face.

'An opportunity' I thought to myself, when the creature had reached out to attack me with its dagger it had neglected to keep a hand on the other creatures. I smiled, even through the pain I knew that I could not let this opportunity go.

Even as my muscles grated against each other in protest I still brought the sword up from where it was and slashed up. My wrist was twisted as I adjusted the blade so that its edge was aligned with the arm that I arrived to cut.

No blood spurt out from the detached arm, a silent scream was heard as it retreated towards its allies.

"No you don't!" I yelled, adrenaline coursed through my veins as I pushed myself to dash toward the injured creature.

PIERCE

My sword pierced through the back of the creature a silent dying scream echoed from its mouth.

"Hah" "hah" I pant, my hand tightening its grip upon the sword as I looked towards the rest of the creatures. They had not been idle, from the moment that I had cut the arm of the creature off to now they had dashed upon me. The only reason I was able to have time to breathe was the shock on their faces as the creature died at my hands.

I smiled again, ragged breaths leaving me as I looked upon them. They must have thought they were invincible with their durability but they weren't.

My rest didn't last for long as moments after the shock came it faded away as anger overtook them.

They charged recklessly at me. The appendages that attached them together were severed as they each flew at me with different speeds.

I brought my sword up, this was perfect, in their rage they would not take advantage of their superior durability and gave it up. All just to attack me faster.

The first reached me and with a stab of its dagger aimed for my eye.

'Predictable' I thought as my legs dropped me to the ground, a slash being given. It died instantly, its head sliced in half.

Soon after though three others came upon me and I wasn't able to dodge as well as I would have liked to, wounds appearing in me in non fatal areas. It was only thanks to my Memoria skill that I was alive. Muscle memory from some memory appeared and saved me.

It allowed me to twist my body out of the way of their fatal attacks and redirect them to places that would only injure not kill. Of course I would bleed out in a matter of minutes from how deep they were but at least I wasn't instantly dead.

"Guh" I grunted, my body had landed hard on the ground. It had taken the breath from me but I couldn't rest. I had to get up. With wobbly legs I struggled, the sword that I held tight in my grip had been pushed into the ground to act like a makeshift walking stick.

"Shit" I wasn't able to stand in time, the creatures had reached me and again a claw was stabbed towards my eye.

Instead of my life passing by my eyes all I could see was the forge, the mysterious figure that guided me.

'Not now…' it said, its voice whispered into my ear as my hand raised itself. Power filled it as I felt something crush under my grip.

I blinked away the darkness that had accumulated in my eyes and saw a field of limbs. In my hand was the crushed head of one of the creatures.

I fell to my knees, exhaustion filled me as a light swallowed me up. I barely had the will to even resist, whatever came next would have to wait. My body fell unconscious. The last view was of the white space that I had previously entered the portal from.

"GAH" I screamed out, the pain of my body being healed had woken me from my blissful sleep. My eyes widened in pain, frantically searching for anything to forget the pain but nothing was in sight. Only the sight of endless white greeted me. I grit my teeth, the endless pain wracking through my nerves as I resisted the urge to scratch at my wound. I knew that doing that would only cause unnecessary pain and lengthen the time spent healing.

"Hah" I panted, rational thought returning to me as the pain disappeared. Though my body was still on the floor despite its recovery, phantom pains echoed throughout which prevented me from standing up.

Another minute and the cold of the floor and the passing of time finally allowed me to stand up. Though immediately after I had done so more pain wracked through my legs. Enough that I fell right back down.

This time though I didn't allow myself to fall back to the ground and instead grit my teeth and bared through the pain. Enough that I could reach the bed that had been laid out for me.

With a flop my body fell down to the bed, my eyes closed and blissful sleep finally took me.
