Chapter 18 - Love her?

At the dining table, the environment was quiet and peaceful. Elder Master Walker was a bit talkative with Davis regaining the business while Lucy had no other talks to share.

But in the middle of the dinner, Davis helped her serve the dishes she might like. It took her by surprise but she never refuted in front of the elders either.

'Doing this for the sake of his reputation and this fake marriage…' Since she knows that he needs to prove that this marriage is true to his grandpa, his clean image of a loved one must be righteous.

However, she had no hint that the grandpa was even more eager to talk to Davis about a few things...

It wasn't until the dinner was going to come to an end that she heard, "Lucy, as you are now the family member of the Walker family, I as the elder of the family should pay a visit to your parents."

"Even though you have married legally without anyone's blessing, formal talks between the families to hold a grand wedding should be done once." The old man said and this time, Lucy's eyes went to look at Davis for help.

As soon as Davis found her glance at him, he slipped his hand under the table and rested it on her thighs. For a bit of a moment, he could feel Lucy undergoing a jolt in her back but she had a perfect smile on her face and he turned to face his grandfather.

"I forgot to tell you, Grandpa. Lucy is.. an orphan. She has a brother in her family but he is currently busy with his work and out of the province." Davis told with his straight face and a bit of alertness.

His eyes were searching and giving his grandfather a simple glare to not say something which would in return hurt his wife's feelings.

Obvious to Davis's gazes, Elder Master doesn't say much but mutters, "I see. I'm sorry to disclose this topic, Lucy."

"It's not an issue, Grandpa. Please don't worry. But when my brother gets back, I would definitely invite him to have dinner with you." Lucy's polite response gained a nod from the man.

"Alright. But Davis, we need to talk in my office after dinner." With this, the old man used his handkerchief to tap his hands and went towards his office.

Meanwhile, Lucy eyed Davis beside her, "Don't you feel your grandfather is a bit too…"

"Strict? Or formal? Don't worry, I will handle him." Davis took her and pressed them into one while transferring all his powers and energy to her.

There was a frown fired on her forehead but Davis's reaction was slowly fading begin with.

Quickly, Davis finished his dinner and took his leave to show up at the study room where his grandpa was waiting for him. He walked through the lobbies and finally knocked on the wooden door where he heard a hard and solid voice from inside.

Rotating the knob, he entered inside and stood against the Elder Master of the Walker family, who was no more as gentle and calm as earlier.

"Davis Walker…. Will you start explaining everything to me or shall I say?" There was authority in his speech and Davis knew he had to do something.

He raised his eyes to look at the men opposite to him. Elder Master Walker was sitting on his arm office chair and threw the documents on the desk like dust sweeping across them.

"It is what it means and you see. I have married Lucy Warner and there is no stepping back anymore from this." Davis said.

"Hah! Do you take me as a fool? She was a mere secretary whom you recently brought to your banquet. Except that, I don't think you have any other relationship with her." The man was concrete leaving no scope of doubt.

"Even today, I could easily see that there is nothing between you two. Moreover, that lie about her being an orp-"

"She is indeed an orphan and his brother. Yes, he is in the province but he doesn't know about our marriage because Lucy needed time to tell her brother about us. Except for this, she is an orphan." Davis left no stone to discuss this matter anymore since he knew he was done with it.

His eyes scanned through the Old man and found that the man's brows curved upwards. At this point, Davis knew something was definable wrong with the attitude given to him.

"She doesn't have anyone behind her, why are you so worried?" Davis couldn't help but ask and take a seat opposite Grandpa where the old man sighed and took a sip of his late-night green tea. "I'm not worried but… she has no parents, no identity attached to her. Who knows whose blood is flowing in her? How can a brilliant man like you marry someone who has no family name attached to hers? Someone who is… low in status as compared to you?"

All the reasons were reasonable. Neither did Davis deny nor accepted. "Status never mattered to me. She is smart enough and I think I would prefer someone smart and intelligent than a dumb lady of a wealthy family." Davis's! Honest review gained a chuckle from the elder master.

He could see a reflection of someone he knew in the eyes of Davis and this was a small thrown in his tiny heart which he could never erase ever in this world. "You have considered things…"

"I did. Marriage is a big decision." Davis said but this reply was a mix of subtle expressions and he relaxed a bit.

He could sense that his grandfather was coming to terms with this new marriage and that's all he needed to ease him with so that he could take the next step.

But before the completion and his attempt to do so, he heard his grandfather's other question that left him in deep thought.

"Do you love your new wife, Davis?"
