Chapter 19 - Playing with Fire

"Do you love your new wife, Davis?"

Davis looked at the old man for a few seconds before diverting his eyes in another direction. His gaze flew to look outside a small window and saw the sky there. "Love… too foreign for me."

"Davis, my grandson, don't be harsh towards life. It's a beautiful thing and we all should cherish it." Grandfather's words were like thin air acting in Davis's ears. There was no happiness in them and Davis's heart was no less than a cold destiny.

But at the same time, Davis intended to get his hands over the contract to know that he won't be threatened anymore. 'It is possible only if this man is at ease and accepts there is a real thing.'

Taking a deep breath, Davis finally smiled lightly.

"I never said I will never do it. There is absolute liking but love, that's a difficult and complicated world. Give us some time."

"Hmm, I believe you in this. Lucy is a nice girl and it would be hard for you to not fall for someone like her. She is too precious to hold." The old man replied and took a sip of his tea without tearing his determined eyes from his grandson.

This grandson in his eyes was a pain in his ass, as stubborn as his father and strong as his mother. There was nothing holding his emotions back and he could understand why his late son made a last letter wishing for his son to get married and have a stable life, unlike his.

He took a deep breath and then, Davis questioned him back, "I hope you know why I'm here, grandfather."

"Indeed. How can I not know why you are here? It's obvious to know that I will not threaten you any more about your powers and snatching your billionaire wealth." Eldest Walker repeated the words and took the documents out of the drawer to pass them toward Davis.

At first glance, Davis was still suspicious but it completed into an absolute answer when he read the first clause.

"T-this.."

"Two months minimum. You have just got married, live with Lucy and have a happy married life. Everything under my care will pass on to you after a period of two months expires without a single signature and wording." The old man's words were simply too alert to hear until they were applied.

For the next few minutes, Davis couldn't help but glare at his grandfather. There were emotions floating inside his heart and his brain rustled to no end. "You are playing with fire, Grandpa.."

"I know but I believe it is easy to say. I hope you aren't forgetting that I have not only played with fire but also with ice and other dangerous things. At least you are still my grandchild..my favorite one." Davis scoffed upon hearing this.

"I know what you are going to do." Davis rested his arms on either side and a grin appeared on his lips. "Trying to test the validity of my marriage? You are afraid that I will back out from this marriage the moment you give me the contract. I understand your concern...to fly to miss my eyes."

"Hah! Indeed you are my grandson!" laughter echoed in the night room of the study. There was a twinkle hard to miss from the grandfather's face.

He sat there for a long period until he took his stick again and walked to the window. Davis didn't follow him but his eyes never tore from the elder walker's back.

Without even words, he knew that there was something off with his behavior.

"Are you worried about something?" Davis questioned while hitting his head on the left side.

Grandfather Walker looked above his shoulder and then his eyes traveled to look outside of the window at the nearby mountain scenery under the dark sky. "It isn't unknown to you that your life has been in danger since you were born. But now...those killers are being fed under our roof."

"You are someone whom I have always admired and I know that nothing could ever happen to someone like you. But I'm afraid for your life, my grandson.'' Grandpa's voice was hoarse and his speech contained a bit of sympathy.

Everything turned the way because of his late son of whom he isn't proud.

At the same time, Davis didn't react much. He lowered his head for a while and then lifted it back without displaying much sentiment. "I know what I need to do with everything. You can rest assured."

"I'm not worried only about you, You have someone attached to you now." This time, Grandfather turned around and said, "I don't know much about your new wife but we know she is still your legal wife. I hope nothing wrong happens, Davis. Keep her safe from all the harm."

"And...obey what I have said. Because there are many who are not only fighting for this wealth but trying to snatch everything you have..which now includes..." Grandfather didn't find the need to finish his words but Davis understood the hidden meaning.

He took a deep breath and their talks were interrupted by a knock on their door.

"Sir, there are guests for you." The butler replied and this time, the men in the room were shocked. They looked at each other and then again at the butler.

"Who is there?" Grandpa asked.

"Sir...why don't you come downstairs now?" The butler was hesitant.

Without a single hesitation, Davis stepped up from his seat, and his huge strolls were directed towards the living room. All of his attention was fixed on finding Lucy.

'She better not meet someone new right now.'

As soon as he arrived downstairs, his searching eyes found Lucy who was also awaiting for his presence. He walked to her and cupped her face before softly asking, "I hope no one disturbed you behind my back.."

"Umm..No..But there are guests..." Lucy muttered under her breath. Her sight was followed by Davis's eyes which narrowed.

"Denis and Sierra."
