Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Soldiers

It was nighttime when everyone in the barracks was preparing for the arrival of Earl Azrael in the morning.

Amidst the noise and chaos from most adults outside, Sevir remained in his room while holding a piece of paper with a smile on his face.

Soon the door opens and a few other soldiers who are on the same age as him came in.

They saw the paper that Sevir was holding and was hit with a realization.

"Whoa whoa, it's been a while since your brother sent a letter, right?"

The boy named Ron asked in shock while looking at Sevir's smiley face.

Suddenly he felt chills throughout his body and hurriedly hugged his body in fear.

"OOohh? He finally sent one!"

Another boy named Amil exclaimed while resting his hand on Ron's shoulder.

"And here I was wondering when will this guy stops frowning"

Moros said in a thinking pose and grinned.

"Or when he'll stop grinding his teeth in anger like our hell's instructor"

Ron added and nodded.

"Ah, I feel bad for the monsters he meets because of his temper, pfft"-Amil

"Just thinking about it sends shivers to my skin. How cold"-Ron

"Sevir, please stop smiling"-Moros

The three boys continuously poured out words one after another with no signs of stopping.

Sevir glared at them and folded the letter carefully before hiding it away.

The three kids looked at Sevir as he went back to sleep, ignoring the rest of them.

"Haha, look at him go silent after a long time"

Moros laughed while poking his Amil on the side.

"Sevir's brother is the best"

Amil then added while grinning.

The morning came and the carriage where the Earl was in finally arrived.

All soldiers ranked Sergeant and above stood in line to greet him.

"Attention!!"

At the Sergeant Commander's shout, everyone raised their swords in greeting the Earl as he stepped out of the carriage.

Tailing behind him was a beautiful girl with golden hair and golden eyes.

She has a bright smile on her face and an air of dignity showing in every step she takes.

Everyone who saw her held their breath and remained silent while the commander welcomed them.

"This is my daughter Amelia Azrael"

The Earl introduced Amelia with a smile on his face but there's a hidden glint in them as if to tell the others to back off.

"It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Amelia Azrael"

Amelia said and curtsied in perfection that everyone gaped their mouths unconsciously.

Her elegant movements made her look like a princess who is someone that they could never reach.

But despite her higher standing Amelia bowed her head lowly and shows her respect towards them clearly.

When the Azrael family entered the building, all the soldiers finally felt at ease and breathe.

"Phew. That was the first time I met a noble lady"

One of the soldiers murmured as he held his nervous heart.

The other soldiers nodded at him silently as they watched the carriage being drove off to the lodge.

"Hmm… Is that so? For me it's the third time"

One of the soldiers retorted and shrugged.

"Though compared to them, Lady Azrael is like an angel"

He said with admiration in his eyes while the others nodded in agreement.

In the Kingdom there are knights who serve the nobles and soldiers who serves the people.

While the Knights hone their skills to guard and escort important people. The soldier's trains to fight monsters and protect the common people.

If the Knight's fighting style look righteous and noble. The Soldier's fighting style is like a loosened mad dog that takes advantage of every weaknesses of their enemies to tear them apart.

Compared to the number of barracks that trains knights in the Kingdom there are only three places that trains soldiers seriously and one of them were in the Azrael territory.

The Southern Soldier Camp that accepts anyone regardless of their identity gives everyone the chance to get stronger, earn money, and help others in the process.

Most of the soldiers in the Camp are indebted to the Earl as he continuously supported the Barracks with money without asking anything for exchange.

And if one is skilled enough, they can even be accepted as a knight of the Azraels and learn refined techniques from a Knight Commander.

The Southern Soldier Camp is one of the chosen places for people to achieve their dreams of becoming a Knight.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All the soldiers below the Sergeant rank including Sevir are currently on the training ground.

"Ugh, Wh—pffua… Haaah…. W-Wwhhen… Ugh"

Ron tried to say something while running laps but he's out of breath and could barely move forward.

His vision looked blurry as he tried to look back and see Sevir and his other friends.

"Huff…. Haaah"

Sevir then ran pass him with sweat all over his face an unbreakable glint in his gaze.

"Ugh, I'm tired!!"

One of the kid soldiers shouted and breathe heavily while lying on the ground.

Slowly all the kids their age are slowly falling over from fatigue and was catching their breathes.

They all turned their gaze at Sevir who still had the strength to run around while heaving and huffing heavily.

"Haah… Haaah… That bastard…."

One of the kids mumbled in bitterness while the others laughed and thinking the same thing.

While everyone was lying in exhaustion the bell suddenly rang indicating that a few monsters are spotted.

All the exhausted soldiers in training immediately stood up and helped in preparing the weaponry for the attack.

It's been a few years since the monsters has been frequenting near the Kingdom or even the whole world.

It was even believed that a rift might be manifesting again after so many years.

Three hundred years ago, because of the wrath of the sleeping dragons, a rift from Hell's realm started to appear causing the unwelcomed guests to invade the world.

The monsters that poured in from the rift were millions in numbers and caused a lot of destruction and deaths of many.

Only with the joint forces from Humans, Elves, and Dwarves did they manage to close off the rift and drove off the monsters.

Although the rift was now gone the traces that the Hell realm left was still lingering until today, causing normal animals to turn into monsters.

For three hundred years, the monsters that people hunted were normal animals that turned into monsters.

But nowadays there's been sightings of unidentified monsters that are believed to be the Hell monsters mentioned in history books.

It's still not proven to be true, but many countries have already started preparing for the possibility that a rift might be opened somewhere.

The Earl was immediately alerted of the incoming monsters near the Azrael border.

"Gather the soldiers and head to the border!"

The Chief Commander shouted and then called for a messenger to call the Azrael Knights for back up.

"Earl Azrael, please stay here for a while where you are safe"

The Chief said in a serious tone, so Earl Remier nodded. But before the Chief could leave the Earl suddenly stood up in a panic

"Amelia!! How about my daughter? Where is she right now?"

The Earl asked with horror in his eyes when he remembered that Amelia said that she'll be outside.

"Don't worry about Lady Azrael, Earl. I'm sure she's inside the barracks where she's safe"

The Chief said with a reassuring smile while patting the Earl's back. Only then did the Earl calmed himself and sat down.

"Chief Roman, please save the people"

The Earl pleaded with a worried look in his face and the Chief nodded with a smile before leaving.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amelia was startled at the sound of the bell and looked down from the second floor to see the soldiers running here and there in a hurry.

She was touring the barracks because of curiosity when suddenly her tour guide was in a panic and told her to stay still while he checks the situation.

Being left alone in this situation, Amelia's curiosity grew more.

She headed down and came to meet a few soldiers who are carrying the weapons and other necessities then loading them in the wagons.

She wanted to help, but she also thinks that there's nothing she can do to help them with.

In fact, she might just be a burden to them if she does something.

Amelia pondered in deep thought while looking at the soldiers, itching to do something as the Azrael's future Lord.

While thinking such things, Amelia suddenly felt someone's gaze from the back and when she looked back, the boy immediately looked away, so she didn't saw his face.

And it's not just the boy's gaze she felt.

Slowly Amelia's skin trembled at the sudden rushed of chills all over her body.

Amelia felt the need to see to be unimportant and closed her eyes.

One by one the ground was felt as if she was directly touching them. No, it's as if she's the ground herself.

Then soon number of soldiers around her were clearly seen and counted inside her head.

She felt everyone's presence including her father's and even the surroundings.

Their heartbeat and movements are so clear in her head that she can even predict where the others are going.

As she followed the movement of one soldier who's going out while riding a horse.

She guessed that the soldier is out to report the situation to someone.

When the soldier's presence went further, and further away Amelia's eyes widened when she realized that she could follow him wherever he went.

She had a strong feeling that she can sense more than just this place.

With excitement in her eyes Amelia expanded her capability to sense everything and can finally see the whole Azrael territory in her head.

The number of people in their territory felt overwhelming and her heart continued to pound loudly.

"They are our people"

Amelia mumbled feeling warmed at the presences of the people.

Everyone was only doing their own thing and living a day-to-day life but somehow, she felt happy.

Just as her excitement continued to build up so is the worries in her heart when she sensed unfamiliar presences everywhere.

"Those are…."

Amelia opened her eyes and was confused.

The weird looking creatures she saw and felt was so foreign as if they didn't belong here.

Amelia felt goosebumps and hugged herself because of the chills.

"Lady?"

Suddenly a soldier called her stopping her thoughts and when she looked up it was the tour guide who left her earlier.

"Phew, I'm glad you're safe…."

The soldier mumbled with a fearful and awkward smile. He fidgeted his fingers with a nervous face while Amelia stared at him in bewilderment.

Soon the guide bowed his head lowly and shouted.

"I'm sorry!! I panicked and left you alone, sorry!!"

Amelia was surprised at the sudden apology and guessed that he must have been scolded for leaving her alone.

Amelia smiled and shook her head.

"I'm fine so don't feel too sorry"

She said and urged the soldier that they should get inside for now.
