Chereads / The Witch Memoria [Remake] / Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Monsters

Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Monsters

As the future Countess of the Azrael, I joined my father to visit the knights in the southern part of the territory.

There we met the Chief Commander and he introduced himself to us. When I heard his name, I belatedly realized that this is the soldier's camp and not where the knights are.

The knight's camp is also in the southern part but a little far from the soldier's camp.

I heard that they mostly train together from time to time and have friendly tournament against each other.

I can somewhat understand that the soldier who left earlier was heading to the Knight's camp for their assistance.

With my newfound power I was able to see and feel of all the movements of the soldiers as they went to the border to fight against the monsters.

Most of the civilians have now evacuated in a different town where they are safe.

Remil is also doing well on her own and writing her books in the mansion.

The rest of the territory are at peace while the soldiers in the border are currently in a deadly battle against those beings.

I bit my lip in nervousness when I felt some of the soldiers getting injured or almost got themselves eaten.

Although, I'm not there physically I can still feel the soldier's fear and the full intensity of the battle.

I clenched my fist, and a cold sweat ran down my forehead when I saw a young kid met a monster on the way while running away.

When the monster raised its claws and was about to kill the kid, I screamed and stood up in a panic.

"NO!!"

The soldier beside me flinched when I suddenly stood up and shouted.

But before the kid could be killed another soldier managed to save him in time so I felt relief.

I sat back down while holding my chest. My hands are still trembling from fear for the kid's well-being.

"This is not good…"

I mumbled and frowned while the soldier looked at me in confusion.

"I'll go"

I shouted and ran out of the room.

"L-Lady!?"

I ignored the voice of the soldier who came running after me while I ran to the stable.

[The battle is more dangerous than I thought! The monsters are too strong that it needs the strength of three soldiers to beat one]

I ran in a hurry and was slowly running out of breath from overworking my non-existent muscles.

When I saw the horses waiting for me, I can feel how much they're willing to help me.

[Can they understand me?]

I looked in bewilderment at the horses who are lending their backs for me to ride in.

I still don't understand where this power is coming from.

Though it's familiar…

With no hesitation I climb up the horse that looked stronger than most.

[How do I ride this again!!?]

I am late to realize that I never learned how to ride one and immediately felt nervous.

But before I could react the horse suddenly stood up and jumped up the fence that is blocking our way.

In a hurry we both headed outside of the camp leaving everyone behind.

"Aaaaah!! WaaaaaiiT!"

I cried for help while holding unto the horse's back for dear life.

The horse didn't stop despite my screaming and we both ran past the soldiers that were too slow to realize I got out.

Seeing their confused faces made me laugh a bit that I immediately forgot my fear.

I tried to make myself comfortable while riding the horse and when I did, I was surprised about how easy it was to ride on.

"This is…."

[It's fun…]

I can feel the wind hitting my face but it's not too harsh on the skin but instead refreshing!

This is the first time that I rode a horse and I think it'll be fun to do it more in the future.

[Let's do this Horsey!! For the safety of our people!!]

I grabbed the horse's back tightly but not too much to hurt him.

There's no saddle placed on the horse but the thickness of the dress I'm wearing is somehow lessening the impact so it's not too bad.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are more than a hundred monsters battling against the soldiers.

Each monster varies in strength and weaknesses although they all looked the same.

Each screech they wailed brings fear to the men fighting them.

And most of all they're all using a unique kind of power that the soldiers could not handle at all.

"Aaaarg, my arm!!"

One soldier cried while holding his amputated arm. He was trashing around and crying from the pain of losing his arm.

"Get back!! Get treatment! Hurry!!"

Another soldier shouted while covering for the soldier that got his limbs cut off.

He gritted his teeth while looking at all the blood that was spraying all over the ground.

"Help!! Heeeelp!!!"

Shouts and cries are everywhere that the place turned into a living hell.

All the soldiers tried their best to block off the monster's advancement but it's all for naught.

Sevir looked around with a horrified look while carrying a sword in his right hand.

He saw his friend Ron being attacked by a monster, so he immediately ran and helped him kill it.

"Are you okay!?"

Sevir asked while helping Ron get up.

"Y-Yeah, thanks"

Ron said while heaving a shaky breath. His eyes is still bloodshot from fear of almost dying.

With the help of a few elementalist in their camp, they managed to keep the injuries of many soldiers to a minimum.

But when a horde of monsters appeared suddenly, all the elementalists in their camp got injured and could no longer use the power of nature.

Soon one of the monsters who seemed to be the strongest suddenly stopped from attacking.

Then it stood up on its two legs while looking up in the blood red sky.

After a long silence and tension the monster then shrieked in the loudest voice that it echoed everywhere.

The shriek was almost unbearable to hear and dropped down trying to stop their ears from bursting.

After a long ear-piercing scream, the ground suddenly shook, and another horde of monsters appeared.

Everyone was in disbelief at the appearance of the horrifying monsters.

It looked the same as the monsters they are currently fighting but somehow the new arrivals felt more terrifying.

"Shit!"

The Chief Commander cursed and clenched his fist.

Everyone around him could see that the commander's hand is trembling.

"Ring the bell!!! We're backing away!!!"

The Chief shouted while hurrying all the soldiers in the rear to evacuate.

"The monsters are coming closer!! Prepare the canons!!"

"Moros! Moros!!"

Ron suddenly shouted in horror.

While everyone was trying their best to run away Sevir and Ron was at lost as they saw Moros trying to get away from a monster.

Ignoring the order to retreat, Sevir and Ron immediately ran to their friend's place as fast as they could.

But as if the world were in slow motion, they both watched as Moros's arm got bitten off by the monster.

"MOROOOS!!"

Ron shouted with fear in his eyes as he reached out his hand towards Moros.

Sevir felt the same as Ron but his steps felt heavy. He knew how far they are to Moros and felt hopeless that they could do nothing to save him.

The monster backed off from biting Moros and prepared its huge disgusting mouth to eat him.

"S-Save me…"

Moros mumbled in fear while holding his bloodied arm and looking terrified at the monster in front of him.

Sevir felt the world turning black as the monster came near to eat Moros.

Deep in his heart Sevir had already resigned at the fact that his friend was about to be eaten.

His steps had completely stopped, and he wished to look away to not see the gruesome sight.

His memories with Moros slowly appeared in his head and he felt like crying and hating himself for not doing anything.

Ron was different from him who never stopped running and still reaching out towards Moros.

But when he was about to give up, Sevir suddenly felt an unknown heat coming from his entire body and slowly this heat became visible and looked like a dark purple mist.

Sevir felt stronger than before with the dark purple mist so not missing any more time, he started sprinting and ran past Ron.

Slowly his speed went up and he felt less tired than before and his view of the place looked clearer.

Sevir managed to reach the monster in a heartbeat and swung his sword towards it.

In a single slash the monster's body was cut in half and its black blood sprayed everywhere.

Sevir was shocked as he stared at the monster's corpse that he easily sliced off.

Meanwhile Ron and Moros were staring mesmerized at the glowing dark purple mist all over Sevir's body.

"Sevir…"

Ron mumbled while looking at the dark purple mist.

But before they could feel relief, monsters had already surrounded the three of them. The other soldiers looked at them in horror and was looking desperate.

"Fire the canons!! Save the kids!!"

The Chief Commander shouted, and the canons were fired towards the monsters that are slowly surrounding them.

Sevir tried to kill those that are nearer and managed to kill a lot more.

Though despite his efforts he felt like there's no longer hope for them to survive this chaos.

Soon Sevir felt that the strength he gained was slowly slipping away and soon darkness came over his gaze.

"Doooon't!!!"

Suddenly a soft voice rang across the battlefield.

The golden hair of the girl swayed as the horse she's riding on was galloping towards the monsters.

"Don't come any closer!!"

She shouted in desperation and glared towards the monsters.

[Is there something that I can do? If I'm really a Saintess, can I ask God for help?]

All the soldiers watched as Amelia held her hands in a prayer and closed her eyes.

[Hear me out this once]

"God… Please help us…."

Amelia pleaded while folding her hands tightly until they're almost white and drained of blood.

Suddenly the ground shook and a great shake of the ground ensued.

The monsters panicked all over at the shaking of the ground.

All the monsters looked up at Amelia and their body felt like burning.

The monsters instinctively knew that Amelia's presence could burn them to ashes.

Soon the monsters slowly backed away into the dark forest for fear of death.

All the soldiers looked in wonder at the fearful monsters who was turning their backs on them.

The forest looked contaminated by the monster's presence and it felt earie inside.

None of the soldiers tried to pursue them any longer. The only thing they needed to care now was the safety of the others.

58 soldiers died in the battle and Amelia could only look on their corpses with a heavy heart.

Amelia felt like crying but for now she tried to steel her heart and check on the soldiers she saved.

"Are you alright?"

She asked while settling down the horse to stay put so she can get down.

Ron looked at Amelia's worried face not intending to look away.

It was the first time that his heart beat this loud in a while. Amelia was also the most beautiful girl he'd seen.

But soon his thoughts were interrupted when he saw Amelia running towards him.

Amelia did not even look at his way and only at Sevir who passed out and Moros' who was bleeding to death.

"Y-You're bleeding!!"

Amelia shouted in a panic, her hands were trembling, and her eyes were filled with tears.

Seeing that, Ron belatedly realized his friend's condition. He tried to look around and saw the soldiers who were already coming to their way.

"Here!! Over here!"

Ron shouted in relief while the soldiers came to them.

"Lady Amelia…"

One of the soldiers said and bowed his head. Seeing the soldier's shaky gaze and pale face, Amelia realized that she caused a lot of trouble to everyone.

Amelia nodded her head and stood up to follow the soldier who will escort her.

Realizing that Amelia is leaving Ron then called out to her.

"Milady! T-Thank you!"

Ron shouted with a soft blush on his face.

"Y-You saved us!"

He added feeling embarrassed and bowed.

Seeing that Ron was about to run from embarrassment Amelia immediately stopped and said back.

"I don't think I helped much! But your welcome!"

The battle ended with the Knights coming very late.

Seeing the devastation, the monster caused and the low morale of the soldiers. The Knights could not help but keep silent and feel bad for them.

After hearing the details from the commander, the knights immediately worked on and secured the place by slowly building a fortress near the forest.

All the knights stayed behind to watch for the monster's movements while letting the soldiers take their break.

And after the Earl informed the royal family about the monsters, the news regarding about the sightings of otherworldly monsters caused fear among the people in the Kingdom.
