Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

Nick and Elena drove through the winding roads of the mountainous region, the scenery outside their car window constantly changing. The sky was gradually lightening, and the first hints of sunlight were visible on the horizon. Despite the long drive, the two of them were alert and determined to find the small pack that the witch had mentioned.

As they reached a small town nestled in the mountains, they could feel the chill in the air, and Elena shivered. The snow covering some parts of the fields and the rooftops of the houses confirmed that the temperature had dropped considerably. They parked their car in front of a quaint diner with a sign that read "Mountain View Cafe". The smell of freshly brewed coffee and breakfast filled the air as they walked in, their stomachs rumbling.

After finishing their meal, Nick and Elena approached the friendly waitress, explaining that they were looking for a man named Robin, claiming that they were distant relatives and had been trying to locate him for some time. The waitress, an older woman with kind eyes and a warm smile, listened attentively to their request and nodded, "Oh, you're looking for Robin. He's a good man, lives just down the road a ways. You take a left out of here and keep going until you see the big oak tree on your right. His cabin is just up the hill from there. You can't miss it."

Nick and Elena thanked her, leaving a generous tip, and walked back out to their car, feeling hopeful and relieved that they were making progress in their search. As they continued their journey, the scenery changed from the small town to winding dirt roads surrounded by dense forests, making it harder to see the sun rising higher in the sky.

The anticipation of finally reaching their destination grew with each mile, and the tension in the car was palpable. Elena was nervous about meeting Robin and the pack, not knowing what to expect, while Nick was focused on keeping her safe and ensuring they arrived without incident.

As they finally pulled up to the cabin, they took a deep breath before getting out of the car, feeling a mixture of excitement and apprehension. The air was crisp and clean, and the scenery was breathtaking, with tall trees and mountains in the distance. They approached the front door of the cabin, wondering what kind of reception they would receive and what awaited them inside.

Elena took a deep breath as she knocked on the wooden door of the cabin, the sound echoing through the quiet forest. She nervously adjusted the strap of her backpack, waiting for someone to answer. After a few moments, the door creaked open and an old but still muscular man appeared. His grey hair was cropped short and his piercing blue eyes assessed them carefully. He exuded an alpha presence that made Elena feel both intimidated and safe at the same time.

"What do you want?" he asked, his voice gruff and deep.

Elena stepped forward and spoke up, "We were sent here by a witch, we're in trouble and need a place to stay."

The man's eyes narrowed as he looked at Elena and Nick, sizing them up. "A witch, you say?" he muttered. "Come inside and explain yourselves."

Elena and Nick followed the man, who introduced himself as Robin, into his cabin. Inside, they found themselves surrounded by rustic furnishings and the scent of pine and woodsmoke. Elena felt a sense of relief wash over her as she realised that they were safe, at least for now.

"Explain your situation," Robin said, settling into a worn armchair. "Why would a witch send you here?"

Elena took a deep breath and explained their situation in detail. Robin listened intently, nodding occasionally as she spoke. His expression unreadable, but Elena could sense that he was analysing everything they said.

When Elena finished, Robin stroked his beard thoughtfully. "I see," he said slowly. "You're in quite a predicament. I suppose you'll need a place to stay while we figure out where you are originally from Elena."

Elena and Nick exchanged relieved glances, grateful for Robin's understanding. "Thank you," Elena said, feeling tears prick at the corners of her eyes. "We're so grateful for your help."

Robin grunted in response. "Don't thank me yet," he said gruffly. "You'll be staying in the guest cabin until we can figure out what to do with you. And you'll be expected to pull your own weight around here."

Elena nodded eagerly, willing to do whatever it took to stay safe and find out the truth. "Thank you," she said again. "We'll do whatever it takes to earn our keep here."

Robin gave a small nod in response, then stood up and gestured for them to follow. "Come on," he said gruffly. "I'll show you where you'll be staying."

Robin showed them around the place, explaining where they could sleep and how to use the facilities. Elena couldn't help but notice the decor and how everything was arranged so neatly. It was clear that Robin took pride in his home, and she felt a sense of calm wash over her.

As they settled in, Elena felt a mix of emotions. She was scared and uncertain about what would happen next, but also grateful to have found a place to stay. She couldn't help but wonder what kind of alpha Robin was, and if he would keep them safe from harm.

As the weeks went by, Elena slowly settled into the rhythm of the pack. She found herself enjoying the early morning routine of helping with the chores and preparing breakfast. The physical training was challenging, but also invigorating, and Elena felt herself getting stronger every day.

One thing that surprised her was how much she enjoyed being around the other members of the pack. They were all so welcoming and friendly, and Elena felt like she had found a new family.

As for Robin, the pack Alpha, Elena found him to be a wise and respected leader. He was always busy with pack business, but he would take the time to check in on her and make sure she was settling in okay. Elena was impressed with the way he ran the pack and how he balanced the needs of his people with the needs of the land.

When Nick finally told her it was time for him to leave, Elena felt a pang of sadness in her chest. "Are you sure you have to go?" she asked him, hoping he would change his mind.

"I'm sorry, Elena," Nick said, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder. "But I have to go back. My pack needs me, and I need to check in with them."

Elena nodded, knowing that Nick was right. She hugged him tightly and whispered, "Thank you for everything. I don't know what I would have done without you."

Nick smiled and hugged her back. "You're strong, Elena. You'll be okay. And if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to reach out to me."

With a heavy heart, Elena watched as Nick left the pack house and disappeared into the forest. She knew that she still had a lot to learn and adjust to, but she also knew that she was in good hands with Robin and the rest of the pack.

As the days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months, Elena found herself settling into life in Robin's pack. She had become much stronger, both physically and mentally, and was now able to control her wolf better than ever before. It was a feeling of empowerment that she had never experienced before, and it made her feel truly alive.

But that wasn't all. Elena had also discovered some incredible abilities that she never knew she had. One day, as she was helping to tend to the injured members of the pack, she realised that she had the power to heal others. At first, she was hesitant to believe it, thinking that it was just a coincidence. But as she tried it on more people, she realised that it was real. She had a gift.

Elena was overwhelmed with emotion. She had always felt like she was different from others, and now she knew why. Her ability to heal was something that she could use to help others, and it made her feel like she had a purpose in life. She spent hours practicing her healing powers, and soon became a highly skilled healer, sought after by many in the pack.
