Chapter 1 - Unfamiliar Tree-lines

The sounds of birds chirping in the distance as a cold wind hit my skin. A bright, blinding light illuminated my vision as I felt my body feel weightless for a moment. I opened my eyes to see that I was inside an ancient stone structure covered in moss, cracked and aged, a type of stone formation that'd be used for ritual summoning. I felt the clothes I had on were the same ones I was wearing as if I was ready for another day of school.

"Where am I?" I thought to myself as I let my surroundings sink in.

A dense forest with tree's up to 50 feet high, tall grass, and the strange rock formation, it was as if it was something from the anime's I watched. Before I could fully take in my surroundings, a sharp pain swelled up within my mind. I no longer felt the stone beneath me as it felt a sharp pain in my heart, as if there was a knife sinking into me. My skin felt as if it were burning. My heartbeat would begin to ring in my ears as my heart felt as if it was being ripped from my body. After what felt like hours, everything went black.

Upon waking up, my body was drenched in sweat as the pain went away. My mind was still confused as my vision started to come back,

"What was that..." I wondered as I held my head. I felt tears run down my face as I started to stand up, holding my head as I stumbled.

Finally looking around, the stone structure surrounding me was a lot larger than I thought. My head was light as I felt it pound with a migraine. I knew I was not at home anymore with how this world tried to kill me. Being only of sixteen years of age, all I wanted was to go home and see my parents.

"This is a bad dream... I know it is, it has to be..." My legs had slight trouble at first when I went to stand, a slight pain shooting through my thighs and up to my stomach as I struggled. After a few seconds, I was able to finally stand.

I looked around at the rock formations as the sun casted a shadow. Ancient engravings of a language I can't understand revealed themselves. The engravings glowed a deep purple as the stone platform beneath me glowed, a strong sensation entered my body. I felt super-human as a purple glow illuminated under my clothes.

As soon as I stepped off the platform, the lights illuminating the engravings died, as if they were powered off by a flick of a switch. Turning back to the forest before me, I set out to find somewhere that is safe.

As I walked, I knew I wasn't randomly kidnapped in my sleep. Even if I'm just a kid, I'm not as oblivious as the characters from my shows. There never was a forest in my hometown, neither a ritual-esc stone structure.

Venturing through the tree's, the sun was blocked by the massive tree's that I pass, an eerie and ominous feeling in these woods set me in high alert. I was scared, but I knew that I can't just hide. I had to brave this, even for just a little while longer. No one was coming for me.

The further I walked, the darker the forest got. Tree's covered in moss, the grass being turned into dirt. The air felt hostile as I trudged my way through the overgrowth. A loud shriek to the right startled me as I turned my head to see what could've made that sound. My eyes were obstructed by a cold fog as all I saw was the mossy bark of tree's.

"I have to keep moving, c'mon." I thought to myself, I was taking an unnecessary risk by just standing here after that. What if it was a bear? But no bear could've made that bone chilling shriek.

Before I could think of another reason as to why I heard that shriek, a silhouette stumbled through the fog. It was slender, as it limped towards my direction. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as I felt an ominous aura, one that made my blood run cold. As it stumbled closer, I was able to make out some features.

Leather armor that was ripped to shreds, a broken and exposed left arm bone. The flesh on its right leg was rotting as the stench reeked of decay. What was coming after me was no person or animal, but the undead. Fear made my blood turn ice cold as my bones felt as brittle as glass, I had to run.

As I braced to run, the undead being shrieked one more time, as if it found its prey. My eyes widened as it began to sprint towards me. I darted away as fast as I could as I had gotten myself into a chase with the undead. I never felt so scared for my life until now, I've felt pain, I've felt fear, but nothing like this. All encompassing doom filled my mind as I pushed my legs to their limit, sprinting as fast as I can. In the distance I was able to see the end of the tree-line I was in, I was almost home free.

Every fiber in my body told me to scream for help, but no matter how hard I tried, I was using all my strength to focus into running for my life. As I passed the tree-line I felt the warmth of the sun as I heard another horrendous shriek from the undead behind me. As I turned I was bodied to the grass. Looking up, the undead was on top of me as the stench of rotting flesh filled my nostrils, making me gag. The undead had greenish gray skin, the femur on its leg as able to be seen as it was fully exposed. The face had its cheeks bitten out as I was able to see its blackish yellow teeth, and the completely fogged white eyes would haunt my nightmares.

Before the undead could do anymore harm to me, a sword pierced its head as a large shadow covered the sun. The undead went limp as my body was frozen, I was petrified.

"Are you okay? You weren't hurt, were you?" The shadow looked down and knelt beside me. It was a younger looking man.

"N-no." I felt the tears rolling down my face as I was clinging onto the mans shirt. Looking back at the corpse, I felt my mind telling me that it wasn't dead.

The corpse began to rise again as a person in shining armor stabbed the corpse, pinning it to the ground. A haunting shriek left the corpse as its body slumped entirely, its fogged white eyes rolling back into its head.

"Make sure it's dead next time." The knight scoffed.

"Th-thank you for saving me." I choked up through my tears, sniffling.

"I don't need your thanks, kid. How did you end up in that forest anyways?" The knight interrogated me.

"I don't know, I just woke up there no too long ago." I confessed to the knight.

"Strange." The knight looked back at the tree-line, as if he were thinking.
