Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

———

Ascella POV*

Waking up after 12 hours of rest is really satisfying. Though I am not really sure if 12 hours have passed since there is no clock in this world. People judged the time by estimating the position of the sun, quite primitive if I may say. I stretched my teen looking body gaining some cracking sounds because of how long I slept. My body's age might be 14 but it doesn't look like that at all, is the logic in this world different from my previous one? I didn't even have time to contemplate things before the door to my room was opened, revealing my mother who looked at me. "You must be quite exhausted yesterday, are you feeling well? Is there any discomfort anywhere? You can just inform Mom if there is any, I'll do anything to fix you!" She said with conviction on her voice.

Well, this is weird for me as my past mother never did something like this. I shook my head while thinking that different world probably has different logic. "I am fine, mother. Fortunately, that rest did its work. I am now quite energized that I feel like I could carry a whole carriage on my own!" I said smiling at her. She raised an eyebrow at my words as she smiled gently, "I bet you can do that. Anyway, the breakfast is ready you should head downstairs soon" Mother said before leaving the room. I looked at the door for a few more seconds before releasing a sigh early in the morning. "I need to get used to their antics, adaptation is the most powerful skill that a human could obtain.. I wish I had something like that too" I said while changing my clothes. The clothes are just like what I imagined for a medieval world, they didn't have the style yet and it was rough on the skin. Well, this is probably because I am just in a village not a town or city.

After gathering my thoughts yesterday, I concluded that I will just travel this world and try various of their cuisines. I am a food lover even in my past life so declining the chance of having to taste different kinds of dishes is rather stupid. Of course I won't do shits that could lead to me being connected to nobles and royals. They are the most troublesome things that a person could encounter, just being by their sides could already spell doom on me, maybe they were irritated easily and would cut my head when I somehow offended them, or maybe they have another enemy faction that would take me for information and torture me for days? Those things are scary, I need to really avoid them.

I am just a person from modern society, I don't have their common sense of plebians having no authority to talk to the upper caste, I also don't have the gut to handle the visciousness of the people of this world. I am already lucky that I got transmigrated in this peaceful land, far from troubles. Shaking my head as I erased my thoughts, I went downstairs only to see both of my parents already sitting in the table waiting for me. "Sorry for making you wait" I said before taking a seat. They didn't mind my words as they just smiled gently. "You must be hungry, eat a lot son. You won't become muscular like me if you won't eat large amount of meat!" Father said while flexing his muscles as mother just slapped his head.

Father clenched it while looking at mother pitifully. Heeh, so mother has the upperhand in this house. That works better as I just need to complain to mother when father is already stepping out of the line. Mother went to the kitchen before bringing the dishes with her, I looked at it clearly interested about the food that I would consume. In the table was the most simple egg with bacon, the usual breakfast that I eat everymorning in my former world. I was kind of disappointed that there is no meat on the wooden plate only for my mother to smirk at me. "This is just the opening, don't hold back and eat a lot okay? We need to make sure that you are really okay after all" she said.

I nodded my head as I slowly started my meal, the taste were pretty much the same though it was too bland as there was no seasoning added on it. I am not picky enough to not eat so I just devoured everything making my plate clean, void of any food on it. I saw my father looking at me in amazement so I asked, "What's wrong Father? Is there something surprising?" He shook his head while ruffling my hair. "Nothing, you usually ate very slowly and somehow systematically? So seeing you eating fast is surprising to me. Don't mind it and just keep eating" He said as I tilted my head, there are no food on my table anymore, what should I eat? My thoughts were answered when my mother escaped the kitchen with another dish on her hands. This time it has some weird meat on it.

"Uh.. is this edible?" I asked while looking at the meat that is new to me. "Hm? Of course it is, I specially bought it for the celebration of the special event yesterday" Mother said pouting. "I didn't mean to doubt your cooking mother, I am just.. new to this type of meat" I said clearing the misunderstanding. "Its normal to doubt, this meat is from a monster after all. It might be expensive since it was shipped from other continent but for the sake of this wonderful event, your mother bought it" Father explained making my face shine in excitement. 'Monster meat huh.. now I am really interested on it' I thought as I grabbed the dish infront of me before I took a bite of it. Ohum.. this taste is superb, nothing like I ever tasted before,... !? Something is happening to my body?

I looked at it only for the colors to appeared again, I observed the surroundings and saw the meat on my hands brimming with colorful aura. I tested my theory as I ate another part of the meat. The aura entered my body and battled with my own mana inside before becoming docile as it integrated with my own mana. 'Does eating monster meat helps growing my mana? Is this the usual for mages or is it unique only to me?' I have many thoughts but I observed my parents. They also ate the meat but the aura didn't enter their bodies, it merely escaped the meat before dissipating in the air... I really have no information about anything right now, I should look for a book about magic or something.

We finished eating as I looked at my parents. "Do we have some books about magic, Mother?" I asked making them froze.. huh? That was weird, is it really out of place for me to ask that? They have complicated look on their faces as they looked at each other. "Ascella.. give us some time to talk, you can do whatever you want in that time" Father said in rare serious voice, this is the first that I heard him talk like that. I just nodded my head as I left the dining room and slowly went outside. It's time for me to appreciate this beautiful world and my first step would start right here.

3rd POV*

A heavy atmosphere descended in the room after Ascella left, Mizar and Alioth stared at each other. "Dear.. should we really let him enter this path? It was already prophesized that this would be the hardest path that he would enter" Mizar asked worriedly. Both of them already felt the mana in their son's, they were stunned by how accepting his body is. It accepted all the mana from the meat of the monster. It was stunning to look at since it was already a rule that mana of every being won't raise no matter what you do. It is fixed and can't be changed. "Even I don't want to face this thing yet but the time has really come.. him gaining an personality gave us overwhelming joy and equally worry. It means that he will gain the freedom to choose and it would eventually lead to that place" Alioth said shaking his head.

"B–But! He is still a child! There is no way we will let him roam this world where monsters like those exist! We even chose to live in this rural village just to avoid them and now he is pursuing the path of facing them on their own!" Mizar complained, she doesn't want to part with her son because in her mind that is the same as sending her own son to death. Alioth closed his eyes before deciding something. "How about we teach him magic first? That way we should have something that could comfort us before he leave this village" he suggested surprising Mizar. "..Are you sure? You chose on your own accord to seal your ability right?" Mizar asked. Alioth smiled at her question. "Is that even a question? Even you will choose to die for him right? If simply opening my scar will help him then I'll gladly do it.. you even lost your position just to live with me, I can't betray that effort of yours right?" Alioth said.

Mizar was silenced by his words, she is indeed ready to die for her son. He is the only joy in their chaotic life so losing him would result of them losing half of their selves. Both of them reach an consentment as they left the house to look for Ascella. They saw him under the big tree that they planted many times before leaning against it while smiling gently at the surroundings. Their hearts ached upon seeing the peaceful expression on his face as they knew that trouble would come closer to him later on. Though their chest also melted from how cute the scene was. They went closer to him as Alioth determined himself. "Ascella, my son. Do you want to learn magic?" He asked staring at him seriously, he was waiting for his answer as he steeled his will.

"Really? Can I learn magic?" Ascella asked innocently as Alioth's hope was crushed. He was hoping that he wouldn't be interested in magic so that they could just shove this topic somewhere, he doesn't really want his son in danger. "Actually.. your old man is an magician, I could teach you to become something greater than me" Alioth boasted while raising his chest gaining a deadpan reaction from Mizar. They could see the excitement in Ascella's eyes before it turned weird. "Father, I want you to teach me just how to control mana. I don't want anything else" Ascella said while shaking his head. The two were confused by his words, thinking why would he choose the hard way when he already being feed right now.

"Can you tell me the reason?" Alioth asked staring at Ascella carefully. 'There is no way I could say to them that the way they use magic suck. I also don't want to get used to their way as that would lead to me adapting to their perception about magic' Ascella thought. "I want to do it by myself Father. I want to atleast achieve something without being spoiled. So, please just teach me how to control mana" Ascella firmly said increasing the worry on both's chest. They couldn't comprehend their son's actions, Mizar was about to reject it when she saw Alioth looking at her. She stopped herself and backed down. "Alright.. we will start tomorrow. I won't accept any slacking during my lessons so prepare yourself" Alioth said as Ascella nodded his head.

Both of them returned to the house leaving Ascella who just appreciated the view being laid infront of him. It was the classic isekai view that he always dreamed of watching, "This is just a rural village and there is a view like this.. I wonder what the other parts of the world could present me?" Ascella muttered as he relaxed. Unknown to any of them, the prophesy that the couple was talking about was already destroyed when another soul entered the body. The fixed fate got jumbled as many powerful beings in this world could only wait in concern.
