Chapter 3 - Cold Dark Night

In a small room in the servant's quarters , Rhefa was sitting on her bed, staring at the shadows dancing on the wall. She was dressed in a simple cotton nightgown by the maid, and her long dark hair was neatly braided. She hugged her knees to her chest, feeling a sense of unease settling over her. After her dinner, she was brought to the room by the maid who gave her a night wear "Sleep well, little girl" she said and close the door.

Outside, the wind howled like a pack of wolves, rattling the windows and doors. Every creak and moan made the her heart skip a beat. She wished her mother was with her, but she believed her mother left her alone because she was a cursed child after what had happened.

She tried to distract herself by staring at the floor , but her eyes kept darting back to the door. She felt like someone or something was watching her, and she couldn't shake off the feeling.

As the minutes ticked by, her eyelids grew heavy. She knew she should sleep, but the thought of being alone in the room was too much to bear. She closed her eyes and buried her face in the pillow, praying that the night would pass quickly.

Gradually, her breathing slowed, and she drifted off into a restless slumber. The shadows on the wall continued to dance, and outside the wind kept howling, but the girl was oblivious to it all, lost in her dreams.

The cold wind whistles through the trees as a group of figures clad in dark cloaks huddle closely around a flickering fire in the middle of the dense forest. Their faces are hidden deep within the shadows of their hoods, their identities shrouded in secrecy. The only sounds to be heard are the distant hoots of owls and the occasional snapping of dry twigs underfoot.

Their meeting seems to be of utmost importance, whispered words passing between them in hushed tones. Occasionally, a hand would be raised or a head would nod in agreement. As the fire casts eerie shadows across their faces, their suspicious nature is almost palpable.

No outsiders are near to interrupt the secrecy of their meeting as they discuss their plans and strategies, their objectives unclear but their danger unmistakable. With the night sky as their only witness, they continue to plot in the darkness, leaving behind only the sounds of their hushed whispers and shifting movements.

The morning in the royal family is quite different from the normal morning. As the sun began to rise over the royal palace, the concubines were already bustling around in preparation for the day ahead.

The sound of giggling children mixed with the clattering of jewelry as the concubines made sure their little ones were dressed to impress.

In the central courtyard, the smell of freshly brewed tea wafted through the air as servants rushed back and forth with trays of food and drink. The occasional burst of laughter could be heard as the concubines chatted amongst themselves, all the while keeping a watchful eye on their children.

In the grand halls of the palace, the sound of musicians tuning their instruments provided a pleasant soundtrack to the morning's activities. The concubines ensured that their children's hair was neatly arranged and their clothing was of the finest quality, fit for a child of royalty.

As the morning wore on, the palace came alive with the activity of servants and courtiers. The concubines, ever watchful, made their way to more private areas of the palace, away from prying eyes. By mid-morning, the children were all dressed and ready for their governess, leaving the concubines to turn their attention to other important tasks.

Queen Monalisa brushes her little princess hair with affection "Be good my dear Rose, learn well from your governess" Queen MonaLisa pampered her 10yrs old daughter. She had curly, blonde hair and big hazel eyes that were often filled with excitement "I will learn mother" she said sweetly. MonaLisa pecked her daughter "You all set to go, I will meet you at the dinning table " Rose stood up and bowed before stepping out of the room.

As the 14-year- old vampire prince stepped out of his chamber all dressed , a look of superiority plastered on his face. He depended on his loyal guard to cater to his every whim, from bringing him delicacies to providing him with the finest clothes.

Despite his youthful age, the prince looked down on everyone around him, believing himself to be above them all. He walked with a certain air of arrogance, his cold eyes flickering over those he passed with disdain. His vampiric nature only served to amplify his sense of superiority, as he saw himself as a powerful and immortal being, above the mere mortals in his kingdom.

Rhefa deep sleep was disrupted by Margret "Wake up Rhefa, if you want to stay here, you must learn how to survive" she tapped her. The little girl had live in fear for the past weeks and Margret tapping her triggered her sense, she jumped up looking all set to run, "Calm down, where are you running to?" Margret asked.

Rhefa burst into tears"Mother ! Mother! I want to go and see my mother" she cried out. Margret looked at her in pity, she reminds her of her daughter that has passed away mysteriously, if she was alive she would be of the same age as Rhefa.

"Stop crying, you lost your mother and lost I lost my daughter, this is blessing from above" she said and draw Rhefa to her embrace and pet her until she stopped crying. Margret bath and cloth her, she helped her pack her hair in ponytail.

"All set, later in the evening I will go check the storage for the clothes the princesses have abandoned so that you can have them instead of this" she said pointing at the oversize uniform she was wearing, Rhefa nod slightly and held Margret hand "Let's go" she said accepting the reality that her mother wasn't coming back for her and the palace will be her home for a very long time.
