We sat behind the huge stone waiting for the signal from the commander. The anticipation made me sweat bullets and the seconds stretched too long for my liking as I held my breath. I stole a glance at the two squatting beside me. rick noticed me noticing him. he stretched his hand and held mine, squeezing them in assurance. he knew how nervous I was. I smiled at him in gratitude. I was glad he was there with me and I could see him. it didn't feel right to just know that he was there on the battlefield while I was there safe in the hiding spot. I feel a little regretful that I had left the pack to come here in my selfish whimsical way but I'm also glad I've left them in good hands.
