Chapter 56 - Zenith

"Why haven't we heard anything from Matthias yet? He should've been back by now!" Mithridates exclaimed.

"Sir, we received reports that he has been taking by Earl Grey's people."

"Of course he was! I knew this would happen. I specifically told him to hold off on his plans until after the coup has been executed. Now look at him.

The man known as Mithridates stood up from the chair he was sitting on and glanced at the tall windows surrounding his well lit room.

Despite how well styled his grey hair was, he ran his fingers through them out of frustration.

He really didn't need anything going wrong for him right now, not when the plans he had were starting to set in motion. Sighing loudly, he finally turned around to face his subordinate.

"Have three men find his whereabouts. He was most likely taken to the underground cells in the Grey mansion. Even if Donellan is known to be strong, the same can't be said for his guards. Send the strongest ones." He said quickly dismissing his subordinate.

"Yes sir!" He quickly left.

The man sighed once again slumping back down to his chair. He then picked up a communication device, imbuing it with his mana.

"Hello, Mr. F there's been a small hiccup but otherwise, we can proceed as planned."

Simuel who had been pretty much bedridden for the past couple of days, finally gained the strength to go outside for a walk.

It had been awhile since he visited the garden that had newly planted flowers in it. He decided to use this time to gather his thoughts.

Things had started to derail a little in the story, but he remembered there being a conflict later on in the novel concerning the royal family but since it had been awhile since reading the book, it wasn't surprising that he overlooked this detail. But it was an important one and he wasn't the time to forget important things.

As he was walking along the path that lead to the garden he stopped in his tracks, a sudden realization dawned on him.

He was starting to forget a lot of important details from the novel, it was like his memories of his past life was slowing fading and being replaced with the new ones he had made in this world. Simuel's paled when realizing the severity of the situation.

While making his way towards the large white bench that was stationed in the middle of the azaleas, he heard a noise.

Focusing his attention on the noise, he could somewhat discern what the noise was. It was the sound of two people whispering to each other. Curious, Simuel got up from his seat and made his towards the voices.

Making sure he was hidden and wouldn't be caught he peeked his head through and saw two servants conversing with each other.

"Hey did you hear the news?" The tall servant asked.

"No what happened?" The shorter secant asked back.

"Apparently the syndicate is planning to overthrow the king. There's talk of some alliances being formed."

"What?! You're kidding! How could this be." The shorter servant exclaimed.

"Shh. Keep your voice down someone might hear us."

"Who's going to hear us from all the way over here?" The shorter servant retorted.

"Don't you know who's property this is? Earl Grey has eyes and ears everywhere. You could be a hundred meters away and that monster would still hear you." He said while shivering.

"Right. Well anyway, no one in their right mind would storm in here and cause trouble so it's fine. Plus I think the coup is all a conspiracy."

The shorter one said while laughing him off.

"I wouldn't be so sure. I hear there's a lot of bad blood between the royal family and the syndicate. On top of that I believe there are some people among the nobles who are in agreement with the syndicate's way of thinking." The taller servant remarked.

"I guess you are right. Well let's get back to work before Emille starts to wonder where we are. Apparently we are increasing security in and outside the household. I guess your theory isn't far off."

"Let's just hope for all our sakes that it remains just that, a theory."

The two servants left quickly after that. Simuel was left there standing with a complicated expression on his face.
