Chapter 58 - Moratorium II

Hecate had a wicked smile on his face. He decided to take this opportunity to test the young master.

"Why do you think so little master?" He asked.

Simuel looked between Hecate and Donellan and when Donellan gave him a nod, he had no choice but to voice his opinion.

"I don't think it would be very beneficial for them to have so many high ranked nobles. If anything, it could threaten their positions. Then again, all nobles stand to gain something, like opportunities for wartime profiteering, especially for the nobles who have businesses."

The three man stared at Simuel. They didn't expect such an answer from a six year-old. Donellan shot Hecate a quick look.

"Hmm, young master, if you were in the Earl's position, what would be the best course of action in your own opinion?"

"Well...getting them to admit to their crimes would be difficult especially if this coup is being conducted by someone with power.

They could easily pass blame on someone else or accuse us of lying, either way, they won't be able to be prosecuted without any evidence. I think the best course of action would be to catch them in the act."

Something then clicked in Simuel's brain. It really didn't make much sense for the Syndicate to overthrow the King in order to reinstate an empire. That would mean having to overthrow every single King in this universe, meaning the Kings of the other Kingdom's as well.

This would be an impossible feat considering how the Syndicate only operated in the Novellus Kingdom.

Seeing that Simuel hadn't said anything for awhile and had a serious expression on his face, Emille was under the assumption that he was still thinking over his answer. Emille didn't want him to think too hard about the matter considering how it didn't involve him and was about to tell Simuel not to worry when Donellan shot him a look warning him not to say anything.

"Realistically speaking, it would be impossible for the Syndicate to do all of this alone. They would need help."

Hecate had an excited look on his face. His hazel eyes sparkled. "According to Matthias, they are getting the Military Police and the Aristocratic Party involved." Hecate said.

"...Even with the MP and AP it still wouldn't be enough manpower. They would need to get the other Kingdom's involved."

Donellan had a proud smile on his face. He knew his son was a clever boy, but he didn't know it was to this extent. He needed to give credit where credit was due. That teacher Nicolas Leox knew what he was doing.

"Young master, where did you learn all of this?" Emille asked him.

"Oh...uh..we did a lesson on history and wars and that subject came up in our lessons." He said half lying, half telling the truth.

It was true that they had history lessons and the concept of war was among the subjects they covered, but he learn war profiteering and the benefits of war in AP history back in his own world. Of course he couldn't tell them all that so he lied a little.

"Wow so that idiot brother of mine is actually useful huh." Hecate exclaimed.

Simuel had forgotten that his teacher was Hecate's little brother. They didn't resemble each other at all, not just in looks but in personality too. Well I guess they had one thing in common, and that was harassing Simuel for fun.

"There's something I still don't get. I can understand them wanting to have the Aristocratic Party on their side but why the MP, wouldn't they have different goals?" Emille pondered.

"How are their goals different?" Simuel asked.

"You see, since Novellus became a country, everyone especially the aristocrats believed in the divine right of kings whereby the monarchy has control over the government. They weren't separate at all. This didn't sit right with the rest of the population because the monarchy only benefited those with money and power. The working class believed that the government should be impartial and should strive to make everyone in its nation happy, regardless of status. So the government was separated from the monarchy and the MP's became in charge." Hecate explained.

"Right. And if the empire was reinstated, then they would be going back to their old ways whereas the monarchy would be in charge of the government. The MP would be useless and would no longer have any say in the laws established in the country. They wouldn't gain anything from this 'war' at all."

"So why would they agree?"

All three men remained silent. Pondering over the matter in their own thoughts.

"...Maybe they are being coerced." Simuel finally said.

The three turned to look at the boy and something clicked in Hecates brain.

"Right, that could be possible. Especially when they have someone like Matthias in their ranks. He has an affinity with mind control and it wouldn't be hard for him to manipulate people. They also have access to that scroll!"

"So the MP isn't doing this willingly. I always thought it was weird that they would agree to this. The commander of the MP also doesn't seem like the type to be wrapped up in things like this either. He is a real stickler for upholding laws and keeping the balance in the country."

"So he is being manipulated." Donellan concluded.

"Get the shadow knights to look into this at once." He ordered Hecate.

Hecate didn't wait a single second and left the room.

Donellan patted Simuel on the head, a proud expression on his face.

"We wouldn't have realized this if it wasn't for you." He said. Simuel felt embarassed from being praised by his dad. He had never been praised by a family member before so he felt a ton of emotion welling up inside him.

He was glad he could be of use to him.
