Simuel was aware that although he happened to be a reoccurring character in this story, he wasn't its protagonist.
That role belonged to Donellan Grey. He knew that Simuel Grey had gotten his own story in the spin-off series, but even then his role seemed quite minor.
He wasn't a protagonist therefore he didn't need to do anything regarding this situation. He wasn't a hero nor did he have any desire to become one. All he wanted was a peaceful life where he could be loved and had the freedom to do whatever he wanted. This was the plan from the start.
To survive and live a peaceful life. He knew however that in order to live that peaceful life he coveted so much, this problem needed to be resolved first.
He immediately thought of Donellan and knew that he would be caught in the crossfires if this theory was proven to be true. After all, Donellan worked for the Kingdom and was essentially a retainer for the king.
Simuel sighed to himself.
Even if he couldn't do much, he wasn't just going to sit back and let the evil schemes of the Syndicate come to fruition. Simuel was determined not to be another bystander but to take charge for once in his life. He immediately turned around and made his way back into the house, determined to see his father.
Donellan had been stuck in his study making plans to take down the Syndicate. He had already informed the King about their schemes and Asmodeus himself gave him free reigns to nip this problem in the bud without having anyone be aware of the plans in the firs place.
If the public were aware that a coup had been attempted over the thrown, it would cause public unrest and create even more unnecessary problems.
He decided that he would employ his shadow knights for this missions since they needed to be discreet.
"Once this problem is over, I'll be asking Asmodeus for three months off."
"What problem?" He heard a voice ask him.
Surprised, he looked up and saw his adorable son looking up at him curiously. Since he hadn't answered him, he asked again while tilting his head.
"What problem father?"
Donellan couldn't help but smile. "I see you're back to calling me father." He said while lifting his son up and placing him on his lap.
Simuel could feel his face burning up in embarrassment.
"What's bothering you daddy?" He asked feeling shy.
Donellan let out a low chuckle. "Why do you think something's bothering me?" He asked his son.
"Hmm... well we haven't been seeing each other as much, and when we do you always look upset. So I was wondering if there was a problem."
Donellan looked at the child, a little stunned. He made sure to hide his displeasure and not let out that he was pissed off. This child was either incredibly observant or he was getting soft.
"Well, its nothing you need to concern yourself about. Daddy needs to deal with some annoying people but it won't take too long."
He was going to make sure it didn't take long.
Simuel was going to say more when there was a knock at the door.
Emille came in followed by Hecate. Looking at the sight before them, the stood their in shock. Hecate was the first to recover though and cast the young master a playful smile.
"Sorry to interrupt your precious father and son bonding time, but we have important matters to discuss." Hecate teased.
Simuel shot Hecate a look. He couldn't have come at the worst possible time.
Hecate in turn hit him with a bright smile. Donellan sighed and turned to look at Simuel.
"Sorry son but we're going to have to finish this discussion later. Why don't you go have some tea outside, ask Gwendolyn to bring you some dessert." He said.
"Is it alright we I stay? I promise to be quiet!" He asked.
Donellan looked at his son than at Emille and Hecate. Since the two hadn't interjected, he agreed.
Simuel smiled. He was glad Donellan was letting him stay. This way he could hear about everything, and help in any way he could.
As promised, he sat in his father's lap and remained quiet. He busied himself with his drawings that Gwendolyn had brought him in order to not look like he was listening intently.
"We received word from the shadow knights." Emille started to say.
"According to them, there's been some movement in the capital. Mostly from the lower ranked nobles. Apparently word has spread that if they participated in the coup they'd be able to gain recognition and secure higher positions in the kingdom." He finished.
This made Donellan roll his eyes. He could see why these lower ranked nobles would jump at this opportunity. Most nobles usually stayed at the rank they were if they didn't make any contributions to the kingdom.
"They really are clever. But will they really uphold their promise, I wonder."
"Probably not." Simuel retorted. He then realized that he had spoken out loud. The group of men stared at Simuel with surprised looks on their faces.
