Chapter 3 - You died (3)

In the end, just wounding the enemy wasn't an option, and Kane only had two real options: kill, or make the kid run away scared… After studying the boy's stance for a few moments, Kane concluded the kid had some battle experience; his body was also another proof of that. Considering all that, a strong and relatively veteran warrior would never run away from a slime.

"Shit… first, I suddenly die. Then, I reincarnate in a world, and two seconds later, I find someone who wants to kill me… is this supposed to be some kind of sick joke?"

Instead of complaining, Kane should attack, but considering that he had a limited amount of mana, just firing blindly wasn't a good idea. Maybe five or six Water Balls on the kid's head would be enough to knock him down unconscious, but with his guard raised, the kid would never get hit on the head.

Slowly, Kane tried to move backward. Even though he had no experience using that body, he still could jump back a little and gain some distance. The kid frowned again, but Kane couldn't care less about it.

"Come to think of it… that is a wooden spear. If I hit the same place a few times, it will probably break."

Considering the wound on the kid's face, breaking his leg was also an option. However, would that kid be the only enemy he would have to face? Most likely, that answer was no. In fact, at any moment, another one might come and attack Kane. There was a chance that the kid didn't shout for help because he was alone, but it was also possible that he was too prideful for that.

Suddenly, the kid charged forward. That was bad; the distance between them was just ten meters, and considering how strong physically that kid was, Kane wouldn't be able to outrun him unless he broke both of his legs. In the end, it was a do-or-die situation… Kane decided to take some risks since he couldn't run away. Even though the kid was strong and had lightning reflexes, it was still human… or something similar. The boy had limits, and Kane would exploit them.

When the kid was three meters away, Kane used all his might to jump. In the end, he barely reached the waist height of the kid, but that had been enough.

"Water Ball!"

Kane fired his sole skill, but the magic projectile got destroyed before it could hit the kid's face. However, Kane was expecting that.

"Water Ball! Water Ball! Water Ball!"

In the end, using all his mana and hoping that his attacks would break the kid's legs wasn't an option. Kane couldn't run out of mana in enemy territory… but he could do something else, attack a place completely defenseless and cause massive damage that would stun the target for several minutes… Kane hit the kid's balls three times, and the boy stopped his charge and let the spear fall on the ground. After that, his face became pale and then blued as if he had seen a ghost. The attack had been effective, but even though the kid fell on his knees, he didn't fall unconscious. Kane smirked; that was an excellent payback. However, Kane soon recovered from that.

"I have to run while I can!"

After moving at that annoying speed for a few seconds, Kane finally saw where he was… it was some kind of orchard, and he could see some orange and apple-like fruits. However, Kane soon forgot about that because he heard more of those unpleasant noises… noises of slimes being crushed and split in half. Kane looked around and saw no one; since he was between some bushes, he decided to hide there. There were no traces of his movements on the path he took, after all.

A few meters away from the orchard, Kane saw other kids around that boy's age killing slimes as if it was the most fantastic sport in the world. Some were even competing to see who could kill most, and that made Kane's blood run cold. Those slimes were probably humans who just got reincarnated like him. Still, since they appeared in the middle of enemy territory, they didn't have a chance to understand or even try anything to survive.

"Shit, shit… I can only hope that Mom and Dad aren't among that group."

Even though those people were total strangers, Kane wasn't heartless enough to ignore that. They died without noticing before, and now they were dying like insects… for some reason, they were also spawning like insects. Now and then, a small point in the ground would shine, and then a few moments later, a slime would appear. It was like a game, but unlike a game, their corpses weren't disappearing. They stayed there until the ground would slowly absorb the fluids.

"That bastard… they said that we could survive if we try hard, but how can someone survive appearing in the middle of vicious kids like that?"

Kane was grateful for his second chance. After all, he didn't know what would happen to him on the other side. Still, giving hope to humans like that just to make them feel utter despair and fear for their lives again so soon was just unforgivable. Still, that only raised more questions in Kane's head.

"Just why would someone give us a second chance? Why would someone gain from doing us this 'favor'? If the humans of this planet can obtain coins by killing monsters, maybe they can level up too, and the goal of whatever gave us a second chance is to make their people stronger…"

Either way, Kane wouldn't let himself be used like that. He didn't know if he would survive, the chances of him finding his parents were also close to none, but wherever he may be, he wouldn't let himself become a pawn in someone else's world or game. He would have to play it smart, but it was possible that he could turn the tide of the situation. It was hard to keep his head cool while seeing other smiles that were most likely humans dying, but Kane had no other choice but to do so. Everything he would have to do from now on was to reach that ultimate goal.

"I didn't want to become a murderer, but this is war… I don't think I will be able to recover my human form. I'm part of the monsters' system, after all. So, those who may try to mess with me, they will end up regretting deeply."
