Alex had plunged the dagger aiming at Lucas's back but instantly paled when he saw what happened next.
The dagger that touched his back, turned to ice and broke to pieces and Alex remained in his position, holding his hand out.
'How.. how?' Was the only thought that rang in his head. He looked at his hand utterly confused.
Lucas turned back to look at Alex and said"Sleep."
Alex moved, wanting to say something but fell on the ground unconscious.
"Theodore?" Lucas called and he appeared before him.
Theodore's eyes swept through the mess on the floor and when it met the witch's body that was sprawled on the floor, his eyes flickered to red for a second before returning back to its original colour.
"This is messy"He commented and Lucas nodded.
"It seems like the witches are collaborating with some demons in wanting something in particular. And the common knowledge is that witches don't get along with demons." He explained and frowned as if realising something.
"I'll need to test something about Lisa but until then, take him to the dungeon and tell the maids to clean this mess up."
Theodore bowed and replied"Yes your Highness"
Back at Lisa's room...
Something cold touched her face and she twitched in annoyance.
"One more minute" She mumured drowsly and tried to continue sleeping but felt multiple of the cold thing touching her again.
She finally opened her eyes and noticed the snowflakes falling around her.
"Where am I?" She stood up and dusted the white snow off her skimpy night gown. She noted the tall trees that surrounded her and the moon that hid behind the cloud.
"Catch her!"
"Don't let her get away!" She heard a group of people shouting and turned towards the direction of the voices, seeing an angry mob chasing a small girl that looked exactly like her?.
Lisa quickly left, running after the angry crowd that ran like they wanted to kill the small girl.
"Mama, papa, please help me!" The little girl shouted in terror, wondering what she did that these people were chasing her. The girl ran and ran but hit her feet on a stone along the way and stumbled forward, crashing into the soft snow.
"Kill her!."
"Kill her!"
The people shouted angrily.
Lisa ran to help the girl but before she could touch the girl her hand passed through the girl and she fell on the ground.
"No!" She shouted, trying to stop them from advancing towards the small girl that was cowering in the snow but they passed through her without hearing anything she was saying. One of them came out and took out a dagger, stabbing the girl's chest making her scream in Agony.
"Aaagh!!!"
Lisa woke up screaming and almost immediately Lucas appeared by her side.
"Are you alright Lisa?" He asked checking her face for any sign of injury. He got on the bed and Lisa hugged him crying painfully. He hugged her back and patted her hair gently while she sobbed in his arms.
After a while, she stopped and sniffed sadly.
"I'm sorry I stained your shirt" She apologized while cleaning her tears.
Lucas playfully flicked her forehead and said" After all that crying and you still care about my shirt, silly girl." He reprimanded and the latter blushed.
She leaned on him, placing her head on his shoulder which he willingly allowed seeing as she was still shocked by the dream she had.
"Do you want to talk about it?"He asked her calmly, while watching her fiddle with his fingers.
"Yes" she answered and told him about the small girl that was killed by the mob of people and how the girl looked exactly like her.
He patiently listened and pondered if the dream might imply something.
"Don't worry about it." He assured her first and she nodded
"I talked to Joana and Alex" He informed her and she looked at him curiously.
"What did they say?" She asked him and he stared at her, not knowing how she would react to it.
"I killed Joana and I locked Alex in my dungeon" He confessed frankly.
"What!?" She exclaimed with her eyes slightly open.
"They were up to something I haven't figured out yet, probably on their way to kill you and that girl you call your friend is a witch." He said in distaste.
Lisa didn't know how to take this news. For lucas to have done something as horrible as that, they had to have done something worse. Somewhere in the back of her mind she had hoped for Joana to change, she had wanted to forgive her and let things slide but did this have to happen?.
And her brother. She had put all her trust in him. If Lucas put him in the dungeon it meant that he had attempted something far worse.
Why did he have to break her trust. The faith she had in him.
Her heart ached and she suddenly felt like crying again.
'Trust?'
'Was that even an option?. She was betrayed by her only best friend, found out her brother had plans to kill her and her mother was kidnapped by demons. Was she able to give out her trust to someone else?.' It was now that she understood the true meaning of what the librarian meant.
'We should always be careful about whom we keep near us, you never know what poison they might bring with them.'
All these years her real family were her mum, Alex and Joana but now she was all alone.
"Don't ever think that you are alone" Lucas corrected as his unwavering gaze remained on her.
"Even if you don't have anyone with you, I'm here." He continued, taking her hand in his carefully.
"Sometimes things you hope for don't happen and then you finally come to realise that your initial thoughts were wrong" Lisa could hear the sense of longing his voice carried.
"Trust no one Lisa, not even me."
