Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Existence

"Excuse me, senior! We'd like to ask you something."

"Just ask."

In the end, Fisa and I decided to ask the others about the whereabouts of Class 1-E.

Fisa greeted a girl who seemed to be warming up and asked her about it.

I guess she's the type of girl who doesn't really like to be bothered, it can be seen from the expression on her face as if she's telling us to leave immediately.

In her gym clothes, this girl was warming up by stretching her arm muscles.

"So seniors, where is class 1-E? We're lost right now."

"Uh, you're in 1st grade? I don't think this is the time for you to be wandering around."

"What do you mean, senior?"

"You just started school today, right?"

"Yes, we just started today."

"Usually on mornings like this, your homeroom teacher will come in and explain some school rules."

So that was it, it was exactly the same as last year's seniors.

I had been listening to the conversation between Fisa and this girl.

Maybe this time I'll speak up a bit.

I'm not used to talking about things with other people, so I'll just get to the point.

"Umm... senior, sorry if I interrupted. If I may know, are there any special rules that must be followed?"

"Satomi, please don't make my head full of questions!"

"..."

Ah, that's right.

I was sure that Fisa was very curious about what was being talked about and she wanted to understand it clearly.

"Special rules, how did you know that?"

This girl stopped stretching and started talking facing me.

"So it does exist?"

"Well, maybe some new students are also aware of it like A or B class students. But you're just an E student, how would you know?"

This topic of conversation turned out to be much more serious than I expected.

She looked surprised when I asked about the special rules, it seemed like the special rules would be a troublesome thing for me.

"I don't understand, senior. Can you explain in more detail?"

"Unfortunately, that's impossible. Also, don't you want me to tell you the way to class 1-E?"

"Uh, yes."

It turns out that special rules are troublesome, that's what I thought.

She wasn't willing to explain about it, for whatever reason.

"What were you guys talking about earlier?! I could only stay silent listening to your conversation."

Fisa, who had been quietly listening to our conversation, was now complaining because she couldn't understand what me and the senior girl were talking about.

"Don't be so stupid, your goal here is to become geniuses... so you have to be able to think and understand things quickly."

"Yes, senior!"

"..."

With a disgruntled look on her face, Fisa said yes to the senior girl's words, while I myself remained silent as I stared at the two of them.

"Oh, yes. I forgot to introduce myself. Annete Rose, call me Rose! I'm in class 2-B, if you are?"

For whatever reason, this senior girl suddenly introduced herself.

Her name was Annete Rose, her nickname was Rose, and she was in class 2-B.

At first Rose wasn't interested in me and Fisa until her facial expression told us to leave immediately, but after talking a few things, she started to take an interest in us.

I think Rose is a serious type of girl, and she ties her black hair in a twin-tail style.

When she was serious, her gaze would intensify and it made the other person feel even more pressured.

She was also a difficult person to understand.

No, I don't think it's like that.

I'm just not used to dealing with people, especially since she's a girl, so it's a bit difficult for me to deal with her.

"Uh, umm... my name is Fisa Campbell, call me Fisa! We're both in class 1-E."

"Satomi Adney, Satomi or Adney, whatever."

Then without thinking, Fisa and I also introduced ourselves.

"Hello... Fisa, Satomi!"

"Yes, greetings too, senior Rose!"

"..."

"Just call me Rose!"

"Yes, Rose!"

"Good, let me take you to class 1-E now."

"Really? Thank you, Rose!"

"Yes, you're welcome!"

They both looked excited and it seemed like they almost ignored me completely.

"Rose, are we not troubling you?"

In order not to be ignored completely, I also asked Rose.

It's not that I'm upset about being ignored, it's just that I don't want my existence to disappear completely.

To me it's terrible if I'm completely ignored and treated like a missing person, as if I'm just considered like air.

Air.

Most people know about air, but they always ignore it because it cannot be seen by their own eyes.

Honestly, I'm scared if my existence is not considered by most people.

Why?

I don't know, but I'm really scared.

"Take it easy! There will be no lessons at the beginning of the new school year."

Fortunately Rose didn't ignore me, she also answered my question.

Thank goodness, I thought.

"Is that so?"

"Yes, feel free to ask me for help!"

"Then... please, Rose!"

"Leave it to me! Let's walk now!"

"..."

Fisa and I then walked behind Rose.

Rose was the one who would lead the way and lead us to Class 1-E, while Fisa and I followed behind her.

"Hey, Satomi."

Fisa called out to me with a curious look.

"What's wrong?"

"What's Mr. Smith like?"

Oh, I just remembered that she wanted me to explain about Mr. Smith on the way to class.

I had completely forgotten about it and was just reminded of it by Fisa.

"Umm... he has the height of an athlete, a sharp gaze and scares the whole class. I guess that's it, the rest I still don't know."

"Oh, then why did you get punished by him?"

"Probably because of two things... first, I introduced myself briefly and made her angry... then second, I looked like I was sleeping in class, so she got angry a second time and sent me out of class."

"One mistake is forgivable, but not the second."

Rose, who had overheard my and Fisa's conversation, suddenly interrupted.

Previously she just walked forward without looking back even once, this time Rose looked back and started to slow down her pace so that we could walk together.

"Satomi, are you okay?"

"Right Satomi, is there no problem?"

"What?"

I didn't understand the meaning of the questions asked by Fisa and Rose.

If I was asked if I was alright, then the answer was that I didn't know because I didn't understand the meaning myself.

"Your reputation is already very bad on the first day."

"Aren't you not going to make any friends like that?"

I didn't look at them.

I just stared ahead and responded to their words.

"I don't know."

Briefly, of course.

I didn't know what to say, so I responded like that.

"Satomi, you're a strange person."

"But you're great too."

Whether it was a compliment or not, I didn't understand what they were saying.

"And Fisa too, are you okay?"

"Uh, what?"

This time it was Rose who asked Fisa.

"I heard that Mr. Smith is really scary, even in a day he can make some students in-... eh, forget it!"

Before she got to the end of her explanation, Rose suddenly stopped what she was saying.

She closed her mouth and didn't speak again for a few seconds.

"I don't understand, Rose. Explain it properly!"

Of course this made Fisa curious.

I can understand what Fisa is going through right now.

She felt confused and scared after hearing what I and Rose had to say about Mr. Smith.

"Fisa, Satomi... the truth is I still don't trust you guys, so I can't explain."

"Uh, why?"

"That end is class 1-E. Then I'll go first!"

After showing me where class 1-E was, Rose immediately left Fisa and me.

"Anu, thank you-"

Fisa wanted to thank Rose, but she had already walked away.

"What exactly did she mean by that?"

She asked me.

"I don't know."

"Ah, whatever! I want to go into the classroom now! Bye, Satomi!"

Fisa was so annoyed at not getting an explanation about anything that she too left me and went to her class.

"Huhhh..."

I sighed and threw it away.

As expected, Rose was trying to hide something.

I think she did it because she had her own reasons.

Rose couldn't do it easily because she didn't trust me and Fisa.

Well, I actually don't care about any of this.

It's useless to keep thinking about it, because it won't answer my questions.

For now I only care about one thing, and that is my existence.

I want people to know me no matter what.

It doesn't matter if it's good or bad, the most important thing is that they know about me.

I might as well go back into the classroom now.

I hope I can be let in by Mr. Smith.
